Chapter 136: Trap (2)

Ian flicked Scarlet’s arm. "Why are you such an overthinker? Don’t let one bad relationship cause you to think negatively about everything else. You’re not going around wanting every man you come across. What is so bad about being attracted to the one you like? It is not taboo."

Ian wondered what more he could do to make her see that he was not going to betray her. He had done nothing to stab her in the back since they met. He had gone out of his way to kill someone for her. Putting himself at risk of having the town guards take him away.

"Once you have your trust broken, it is quite hard to easily trust another. Liking someone all over again is a little bit scary. I haven’t felt like this in a while so I feel a bit weird. It’s been some time since I courted someone," said Scarlet.

Scarlet couldn’t help wondering if it was normal for her to want to be close to him so soon when they were just starting. She didn’t want to think of how it was when Jack courted her or the other men who tried to get her attention when she first wanted to get married.

"Honestly Scarlet," Ian said, laughing at how cute she was. "Never show this side of you to anyone else."

"I won’t and you are taking this to your grave before you end up in one," Scarlet warned.

She couldn’t have some of the people who worked for her know about these concerns she had. Scarlet couldn’t have them calling her emotional because she was a woman and going back down the path of discussing that she should not have inherited the family business.

"Should I show you the spot I picked out for your father to put me in?" Ian asked jokingly.

"Do not go around picking your resting place on my land. I do not want to be haunted by you. Must you toy with my hair?" Scarlet questioned, watching his interest in her hair. It was similar to how Sunny was interested in the yarn Florence left around.

"It is your fault for making it so easy for me to rake my fingers through. Scarlet, I won’t think anything of you if you wish to be close soon. I don’t care to judge," Ian said, continuing their earlier conversation. "You’re far from being one of those wome. I’m trying to get rid of one right now. Might I borrow a resting place you have for someone?"

"Get your own," Scarlet replied. "You are quite the catch for many women in town. You must prepare yourself to be bothered by those who want to marry into the Kingsley family.

Ian let Scarlet’s hair slip between his fingers. "Scarlet, come here."

"I know a trap when I hear one," Scarlet said, remaining where she sat.

Ian smiled as she was right, but coming into this room alone with him was the first trap she walked into. "I gave you the chance," he said, going closer to Scarlet.

"I don’t give a fuck about who wants to marry into that family. I’ll throw away that name eventually," Ian said, placing his hand on her warm cheek. "Let me taste something sweet before dinner."

Scarlet touched Ian’s bare chest but ended up not pushing him away as he kissed her again. How many times was it that they kissed now? It felt normal each time. Like they had been doing it for a long time.

Scarlet mind was going back and forth between the kiss and touching Ian’s hard abdomen. She wanted to move her hands to enjoy the reward of his hard work but didn’t want to do too much. She was the one who had always been against touching.

"Scarlet, you’re going to keep making me sad if I am like this before you and you do nothing. Touch me if you want to," Ian said, wanting more of her touch. The bruise was no longer none of his concern. Only getting Scarlet to give to her desires was.

"Why are you so fit?" Scarlet questioned.

Ian laughed. "I came back to a town where someone would love to see me dead so her son can shine. I would be a fool to come back here out of shape."

Scarlet gave in to her curiosity and let her fingers move slowly across his body. Growing up around a lot of guards and knights, she always had a thing for men who were fit. Ian fell under many of the things that she liked. The most important one was that he treated her well.

Scarlet knew that he wouldn’t find her easy for wanting more of him. She could trust that he wouldn’t kiss and tell the town. He had teased her, but he still went out of his way today to wipe his lips so his workers wouldn’t know what they had done just like she requested.

Ian was an excellent listener. He stopped when she told him to and he listened to the things she said, later bringing them up. It was good to have someone around who listened and didn’t just stand there with a smile, nodding their heads as if caring for what she spoke of when they were only pretending so she thought they were close.

Scarlet moved her right hand up Ian’s body. It was evident that her touch was making him feel the same way she felt right now. Being alone in a bedroom was far different from being in her office though Ian had ruined her innocent couch. freewёbnoνel.com

This was all a little too good to be true. When she spoke of a divorce to Jack, Scarlet thought it would be a long time before there would be another man she allowed into her life. Yet here Ian was.

The fact she liked him already scared her, but he could be the person she needed in her life now. The person she shouldn’t let get away.

Her life had been so carefully planned and she always stuck to doing everything one way. Ian’s presence had her doing things she normally wouldn’t and she would be lying if she said that she wasn’t enjoying it a little.

For a moment, she would stop overthinking and do what felt right like Ian said. freeweɓnovel.cøm

"Kiss me again," she told Ian, not satisfied with the short kiss they shared.

"Gladly," Ian responded, happy to give Scarlet all that she wanted. She was more relaxed and touched him as she pleased. He thought he had set out a trap for Scarlet to kiss him again, but he might have walked right into her trap.
