Chapter 122: Independent (2)
Beth couldn’t believe her eyes that she was seeing Scarlet standing in the same shop as her with a woman who shared a resemblance to the princess, but that was impossible. Why would the princess be walking around with Scarlet?
It further angered Beth to see the workers run around the shop to grab dresses to show to Scarlet. Then one of them brought a chair for Scarlet to sit on.
"Why are they treating her like she’s royalty?" Beth questioned, annoyed with the workers. She should have received the same treatment since she was going to marry Jack. "They don’t deserve my money."
Beth thought this was a shop that would have treated her well because of what she heard about it, but it was evident that all the praises it received were for nothing. "She must own it."
Beth didn’t see any other reason for the workers to be treating Scarlet this way. They were still meant to be speaking about her divorce and how Jack was getting remarried. Why were the workers forcing these smiles and running around like fools?
Beth didn’t like how money could have Scarlet get out of the hole she was placed in. Scarlet came around to spend a lot of money and suddenly, these workers were back thinking highly of her.
"I could spend a lot of money too," said Beth. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
Beth couldn’t let it go around that she had to send a dress back while Scarlet came to easily buy a few. Beth’s eyes widened when the woman she believed to be the princess looked her way and now she could confirm that it was the princess.
The princess was the kind of friend Beth wanted to have around as it would raise her status. Why was the princess wasting her time with Scarlet? The party Beth was invited to at the palace was in two days and she had been hoping to see the princess then. Scarlet had moved fast to get the princess.
Alana didn’t enjoy being watched by Jack’s new woman. How could Beth be so comfortable to stand and stare at Scarlet? Was she planning to cause a scene?
Alana glanced at Scarlet who was more interested in the dresses being hung up before them. It seemed that Scarlet had already forgotten that Beth was present.
Alana wanted to say something but then she would be the one causing trouble. Still, Alana kept her attention on Beth to be ready for when the woman would cause trouble. It seemed that getting Jack was not enough. ’Is she interested in Scarlet?’
Alana was horrified by the thought that all this time Beth might have been after Scarlet instead of Jack.
Dawson noticed the princess panicking and kneeled beside where she sat. "Is there someone bothering you with their gaze, princess?" He asked, reaching in his coat for his gun.
Alana turned to Dawson. "What if she likes Scarlet?"
Dawson didn’t know how to respond to her question. First of all, he didn’t know who she spoke of. "The lady likes men," he replied, hoping that was enough. Unless there was some woman present who wanted to be friends with Scarlet?
"I can hear the two of you. What are you on about now?" Scarlet asked, knowing she would regret asking.
"She is staring at you. Watching your every move. It is as though she is watching someone she is interested in,’ Alana whispered.
Dawson noticed Beth still standing close. Was this who the princess spoke of? If so, he had the answer. "Or staring at someone who she wishes to be," he said.
Scarlet couldn’t believe this was on their minds. "You two," Scarlet sighed. "It is best that you ignore it."
"How can I ignore the way she is staring?" Alana questioned.
If Alana were in Beth’s shoes, at the first sight of Scarlet, she would leave. It was embarrassing to her to stand around the same shop as the woman whose husband you fooled around with and now carried a child for whilst not married as yet.
Scarlet wasn’t the slightest bit interested in speaking about Beth. She was used to Beth’s stares because Beth used to watch her from afar and then approach her to convince Scarlet to leave Jack.
"Can you bring the black one forward?" Scarlet asked Elle, giving all her attention to the dresses. She would leave Dawson to answer Alana’s questions about Beth’s interest in her.
"Right away," Elle replied, taking the dress down. "You have wonderful taste, Lady Collins. This is one of the madam’s favourite designs. She thought it would look beautiful for a winter party and there is a white one to match."
"I want both," Scarlet replied.
"I want them as well," Beth said, joining the small group. She would not be upstaged by Scarlet now. She could always get Jack to forgive her for spending more than she had. Jack should understand once he heard that Scarlet was part of the reason why.
Elle didn’t know what to do. It wouldn’t be the best idea to give the two women the same dress. They could both have the dresses as there was more than one of these designs but would the ex-wife and wife-to-be want to be seen wearing the same thing? Buying it at the same time?
"She can have them. I am not interested in playing twins. I would like to see the black one that is behind the light blue dress," Scarlet said, moving on.
Elle sighed in relief that the obstacle was out of the way. She only needed Beth to leave now that she had the two dresses. Should the two women fight, it would be the workers blamed for letting it happen.
"Another wonderful choice. This one has no other dress similar to it. One of the pieces the madam thought should be exclusive-"
"I want that one as well. I have a party to attend in the palace and that would suit the occasion," Beth said, boasting about the invite. Certainly, that would tell of her importance.
Scarlet smiled as two things were apparent. Luke was planning to bring Beth near her and Beth was going to waste all her spending money doing this. While Scarlet didn’t care for Beth’s presence, she was amused and wanted to see the look of regret on Beth’s face.
Beth shouldn’t start games she couldn’t finish.
One of them could buy the entire shop and not regret it when she returned home while the other had to rely on what was given to them.
Scarlet and Beth could have both been in the same shop without needing to speak to each other. There was no need for any interaction between the two since there were plenty of workers to serve them at different corners of the shop.
"It appears that you should first give your attention to the other patron," Scarlet said to Elle. "I can wait. Let her have her pick of as many dresses as she wants."
"Scarlet," Alana said, not believing Scarlet would let Beth take what was prepared for her.
"This was done for you, Lady Collins. Excuse me," Elle turned to Beth. Why didn’t this woman know to wait? She was in the shop far longer than Scarlet was so why now was she interested in dresses she had walked by? "You must wait for me to be done or you can get another worker to gather dresses for you."
Elle continued, "You already requested these two. Shall I have someone proceed with the payment?"
"Bring my dresses to me," Beth said, holding out her hand. She had gone ahead with asking for them when she didn’t know the price. Then there was the dress that she was already trying to get the price lowered.
Elle handed the dress to Beth and watched as Beth couldn’t believe her eyes. Where did Beth think she was shopping? There was a reason why only a handful of women in town came here and then paid extra for the madam to personally visit their homes with dresses.
Beth could not believe the price of the two dresses. They were both far over the price of the dress she was trying to have lowered. Had she just received her shopping money from Jack, she could have bought these in a heartbeat but her money was too low. The downside of shopping all week.
Beth bit her tongue. She could not go back on it now. Not when Scarlet looked to be enjoying this. Jack had plenty of money for her to spend so it couldn’t hurt for her to spend more than was given to her. She was tired of being given a limit. What was the point of marrying a rich man when you had to be this way?
Alana leaned close to Scarlet to ask, "How much money does Jack give to spend?" freёwebnoѵel.com
"I do not know," Scarlet replied.
"You do not know? How is that possible? Hasn’t he ever given you money to spend?" Alana asked as it was quite normal for husbands to do. From the looks of it, Beth didn’t have enough money to pay for the dresses.
"He had offered but I had no need for it," Scarlet answered.
