Chapter 110: Trust (1)

"Milady, there is an invitation from the palace." fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

"Burn it," Scarlet said to Florence. She had no interest in whatever the two fools in the palace were planning.

Florence was hesitant since it wasn’t like Scarlet to throw away something from the palace without reading it first. It was strange that with the princess living here, Alana did not get an invitation sent to her. "Of course. I will return when it is time for dinner. Shall I take Sunny?"

"Leave her," Scarlet answered as she liked the presence of someone else in the room. It didn’t matter that someone else was more interested in lying around.

Florence quietly left to let Scarlet finish up her work so she would be ready for dinner.

When the door closed, Scarlet sighed. She had a slight headache from all the work she had to clean up.

Naomi was still causing trouble as she was trying to have her mother-in-law’s party held at the hotel for a cheaper price. Now the palace was sending her an invitation.

Scarlet was not ready to go back to the palace to be bothered by Luke or Madilyn. She certainly wasn’t ready to go back there with Alana for Luke to change his mind and try to take her back.

Scarlet leaned back on her chair. No one was giving her a break. Each way she turned, someone was looking to give her a headache.

Talk about her divorce had not died down as it was still an interesting topic with Jack’s engagement and the baby he was preparing for. Scarlet had long moved on from it, how long would it take for everyone else to do the same?

"I am tired," Scarlet whispered. There was only so much she could take before like anyone else, she would start to break. "Should I take a trip?"

It wasn’t time for the annual gathering of all the relatives she liked, but it had been some time since she visited her grandparents. They lived a little out of Lockwood where it was quiet. She could convince her parents to join her for the ride.

"But there is too much work to do," Scarlet reminded herself.

She stood up from her chair in need of a distraction and Sunny would be just that. "Sorry to disturb your slumber," Scarlet apologised as she lifted Sunny.

Scarlet always liked that no matter how annoyed Sunny might be with being held so close, she would just stay still and let it happen.

Scarlet looked at the toys which lingered on the floor. They were gifts from Ian to Sunny. She couldn’t help laughing as Sunny didn’t play with any as though she knew that they came from Ian. Ian had a lot more work to do if he wished to win over Sunny.

A knock at the door disturbed the peace in the room.

"Alana?" Scarlet called but to her surprise, Ian walked in. "What are you doing here?" She asked as she couldn’t think of any plans they made for today. "W-Wait," she stuttered, trying to hold onto Sunny who was suddenly insisting on getting out of her hands.

Ian made way for the cat to get out the door without attacking his foot. "Should I be concerned that at the first sight of me, your cat fought you to get away?"

Scarlet looked at the scratch on her hand which wasn’t done on purpose. "She is not fond of being around strangers. You are not the only person she is this way with. You didn’t answer my question. We don’t have any plans for tonight."

Ian closed the door behind him before Sunny decided to come back and show how much she hated him. "Well, I thought that I might still be showing up in your dreams so I would bring the real Ian to you. I still look forward to you using me as you like."

Scarlet opened her mouth but shook her head as she could no longer try to stop Ian from offering his body. "There is a reason that you are here and I am not looking to entertain it. I don’t believe you are here because you wanted to show your face."

"If I said that I missed you, would you believe that?" Ian asked.

Scarlet stared at Ian. She could never understand this man. "Go away."

"Ah ha. I told you that I missed you and this is your response? Must you be so cruel?" Ian asked, finding her response to be a bit cute as well. No wonder she had the cat.

Scarlet froze up after hearing the word cruel. It was always there along with her said to be cold or heartless. It was just a simple response so why did one of those words have to come up? Was it because she was tired that she was upset when it was clear that day that he was only joking?

"Scarlet," Ian called to her, leaving the door to go to her side. "I didn’t mean to upset you."

"You didn’t. I am just lost in my own problems," Scarlet said, covering her face with her hand.

She didn’t need anyone to see this side of her. The side when she was troubled by her thoughts or what was said about her. As far as everyone believed, their words never got to her.

"Forgive me, Scarlet. You can beat me as much as you like."

Scarlet moved her hand from her face. "For what? Ian!" She yelled, startled by Ian lifting her. ƒrēewebnovel.com

He had done it skillfully as though he was used to taking her off her feet. Ian was well over her no-touching rule. He had definitely broken it right now.

"Do you want to die?" Scarlet asked, still holding him tightly in fear that she might fall.

"Eventually but for now I will enjoy this moment before your guards storm in," Ian replied.

Ian wasn’t trying to upset her by doing something she hated. He just knew that she wouldn’t open up if he didn’t trap her or at least let him just be near to offer comforting words when she needed them.

Ian sat down with Scarlet seated on top of him. He moved his hands from touching her to be spread across the long couch. "There, now I am not touching you."

Scarlet glared at Ian because they were in fact still touching. She was seated on him. As soon as she made an attempt to move, she noticed that his hands moved. It would be a challenge of who was faster. "What are you doing, Ian? This isn’t in our contract."

"Can’t I be a decent person to worry about you? You are not to move until what troubling you goes away. You can rest your head on my shoulder if you need to," Ian offered.

"I don’t want to rest so," Scarlet paused, making an attempt to move, but ended with his hands on her waist. "Ian, I am warning you. Let me go right now."

"Scarlet, how many times must I warn you that moving around so much isn’t good for the two of us. I would love to know if this was how we were in that naughty dream you had," Ian said, enjoying her reaction to memory of the dream.
