Chapter 6: The Splinters

"Is this really necessary?" A man asked as he walked through the corridor with another beside him, "I mean, couldn’t we have gone to a bank, or something? After all, there are kids here."
The man had on black pants and a jacket, with a purple collar, and in the center of said jacket was a cracked skull, The Splinters’ official logo.
The man beside him was dressed the same, and they both had white skull face paint on their faces. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
The men also had guns on the side of their ’uniforms’, since, unlike the one leading this operation, they were unawakened.
"Well, you could try suggesting it to Titan," the second man answered, "but I’m certain that won’t end well, so just keep your mouth shut and head down."
"Besides, as long as the HA complies with our demands, no one will get hurt."
"And if they send a hero? Like Radiance or Valor? " The first man asked again, "Then what?"
"You worry too much," the second man said with a chuckle, "you think those bastards care enough about this—"
THUD!
He didn’t get to finish his words before he suddenly fell to the floor, his eyes rolled inside his lids.
"The hell?" The first man let out but before he could reach for his gun, a cold metal was pressed on the back of his head.
A metal he immediately recognized, since his hand was currently resting on the same.
"Get your hand away from the gun, if you don’t want to die," the person spoke up and the first man immediately obliged.
Without being asked, he lifted both hands in the air as his body trembled from fear.
"Good boy," the voice behind him said pleasantly, "now, I’m going to ask you some questions, and you’re going to answer them quickly and honestly, and then I’m going to decide what to do with you based on how cooperative you are. Sound fair?"
The man nodded frantically.
"Wonderful," the person paused before asking, "How many of you are there?"
"T-twenty," the man stammered.
"Twenty," the voice repeated, sounding like he had a frown on his face as he asked again, "and how are you distributed?"
"Two on this floor, five each on the three below, and three in the Gymnasium," the man quickly answered, "t-that’s where the hostages and our l-leader is."
He didn’t mind that he was being a snitch, as long as he remained alive and got back to his daughter, that’s all that mattered.
"Hmm," the person with the gun behind him seemed to be considering, causing him to sweat, "you earned full marks on your answers."
"But you do look a bit tired," the person added, "so, as a reward, let me help you get some sleep."
"I—"
Before the man could say anything, the person behind him pulled the trigger, and something hard immediately slammed into his head, causing his eyes to roll as he also fell to the floor with a thud.
The person, Liam, then looked at the two unconscious men.
Of course, he wasn’t going to kill them, after all, this was a school and there were kids around.
Besides, most of these henchmen, unlike the mercenaries back on Earth, were not cold-blooded murderers, they were just ordinary people who had made a series of increasingly bad decisions that had led them here.
"Though, it’d be a lot easier to kill them," Liam muttered before letting out a sigh and readjusting his makeshift mask that covered the lower half of his face before he moved towards the stairs.
With the bullets he had used, it’d take approximately thirty minutes for them to wake up, so he was running on a timer.

Five minutes.
That’s how long it took Liam to go through the floors and take out the Splinter members on them.
Since he needed no info from them, he was considerably less gentle about it and they hadn’t even realized what hit them until they were completely unconscious.
Liam moved a hand through his white hair, which was a part of his disguise as, he successfully took down the final henchman on the first floor.
The floor below him was where the Gymnasium was located according to the floor plan he had studied.
It was also where the Splinter leading this operation was, Titan.
He was a character that had appeared in the comic quite a few times, alongside the only three otherwise awakened villains of this Delta- Class Villain group.
His Factor was going to be a pain to deal with, especially with Liam’s current Pragma levels.
"I should be fine," Liam muttered as he walked towards the fire escape, "as long as I catch him off guard, it’ll be my win."
His hand reached the handle of the door, but the moment he pulled it open, a massive hand enveloped his vision aiming for his face.
Time seemed to slow down as the massive hand drew closer to Liam’s face and only a single thought formed in his brain,
Death.

Meanwhile, just beside the school was what seemed to be a cafe.
The cafe was mostly empty because its customers had rushed towards the school the moment they realized that it was under a hostage situation.
Most were there because they saw it as a chance to get an autograph from any hero that responded to the situation, which they would then sell for a ridiculous sum.
Others were simply curious.
Regardless, they had quickly left the cafe for the school building.
Even though the cafe was now empty, a man in a black jacket was sitting by the floor-to-ceiling glass that gave him a clear view of the school’s back.
He sipped his tea slowly as his gaze remained on the maintenance entrance, the same entrance Liam had used to infiltrate the building.
The man’s eyes were stuck there because he had seen something quite interesting earlier, a black-haired kid who had somehow transformed his hair to white before wrapping a cloth around the lower half of his face and disappearing into the building.
"Now then kid," he muttered as he continued waiting, "are you a wannabe hero or something more interesting?"
"I guess I’ll have to wait to find out."
