Chapter 3: Reincarnated
"Big brother, are you okay?"
The voice of a little body snapped Zero, or rather, Liam out of his thoughts.
"Yeah," a smile appeared on his face as he looked at the kid on the breakfast table with him, "I’m fine."
He wasn’t, he was far from fine.
But the boy was too young to notice that, so he just nodded and went back to his rant about the happenings in school the previous day.
Liam heard nothing of what the kid was saying, as he retreated into his thoughts again.
’How the hell am I still alive?’ was the thought stuck in his mind from the moment he had woken up a few hours ago, when he was supposed to be dead.
And even more confusing was the fact that he had woken up in a body that was clearly not his.
Conveniently, the new set of memories he received cleared that confusion up, replacing it with even more confusion.
This body belonged to a nineteen-year-old named Liam, a name that also belonged to Zero, back on Earth.
He was the oldest of three siblings, the kid sitting by him was Eli, the youngest, and the girl currently moving around in the kitchen was Lea, the middle child.
If the memories in his head served correctly, they were thirteen and sixteen, respectively.
And they were both under Liam’s care ever since their parents died five years ago in a car crash.
But that wasn’t the end of the shocking events.
Liam lifted his head towards the TV that hung in the living room, where the morning news was playing at a volume low enough not to intrude on breakfast.
"—and in what is being called one of the more significant captures of the month," the reporter was saying, standing in front of a cordon, "the Beta-Class Villain, Granite.....or popularly known as Rock Hard, has been apprehended by the Beta-Class Hero, Radiance after an attempted bank robbery just ten minutes ago."
That’s right, apparently, this world had superheroes and villains known as Awakened Humans.
Said Awakened Humans wielded powers known as Factors which were powered by an energy called Pragma.
All these pointed to one thing.
’You have got to be kidding me,’ he thought as he kept looking at the TV.
Even if he had denied the memories earlier, Radiance standing for an interview right now was more than enough proof.
’I got reincarnated into a comic?’ Liam finally accepted the reality of his situation.
And it wasn’t just any comic, he had been reincarnated in his favorite comic, the very same comic where his Radiance existed. frёewebnoѵēl.com
’She really was real,’ he thought as he looked at the TV before him.
"All done," his thoughts were interrupted by Eli who suddenly stood up, "I even finished all the veggies."
The kid’s proud look at that achievement caused Liam to let out a chuckle before ruffling his black hair, "You did well."
Eli let out a giggle before rushing towards the sofa and picking his bag up, Lea also, finally, stepped out of the kitchen.
Like the two, she also had a head full of black hair and grey eyes.
She also had on a similar uniform to Eli which told him that they attended the same school.
"There’s rice in the pot," Lea said, looking at him, "enough for lunch and dinner, don’t forget to eat."
"I won’t," Liam answered with a smile, and she just nodded as she started checking her bag once more.
"Eli," she called toward the living room after she was done.
"Ready!" Eli appeared in the doorway with his bag on both shoulders.
"Let’s go," Lea said, walking towards the door.
Eli was about to follow before he suddenly stopped in his tracks and looked at Liam, "Are you not going anywhere today?"
"I’m not."
"Oh," he nodded before walking towards the door, "okay. See you later, big brother."
"See you."
With that, the kids left, leaving him alone in the apartment, with his thoughts.
Liam gently put down the fork and stood up, scanning the apartment he was currently in.
If the memories, the size of the apartment, or even the almost empty fridge weren’t enough of a reminder of their current situation,
The countless envelopes on the counter did the trick.
He picked them up and glanced through one at a time, they involved rent notices, Eli’s and Lea’s fees, utility bills, and at the very bottom of the pile, a final notice from a creditor.
In other words, they were completely broke and quickly running dry.
With a sigh, he put the envelopes back on the counter and walked out of the kitchen.
"I’ll deal with those later," he muttered, "for now let’s figure out what’s going on."

It took an hour, but Liam had, more or less, gotten his thoughts together.
He was now standing in front of a mirror in the room he had woken up in, staring at his reflected self.
The face he currently wore was identical to his younger self back on Earth, the only difference being the fact that he previously had white hair, whilst this Liam had black hair.
Speaking of which, he spent a few minutes thinking of what might’ve happened to the kid,
After all, from the memories he received, the kid was neither sick, nor was he in any kind of danger that would explain a sudden death at nineteen.
It seemed he just went to sleep and then passed away.
But Liam didn’t spend any more time thinking of something he couldn’t explain, hell, he didn’t even understand the mechanics behind his own reincarnation just yet.
So he put that thought away, leaving it up to future him to deal with....if there were ever consequences.
He glanced at the mirror again, noticing that the kid was surprisingly athletic, and from the memories, he figured out that it was a result of all the jobs he had taken so far.
Liam looked at his hand before clenching it into a fist.
Everything still felt surreal, but even if this was some sort of dream, or merely his brain’s coping mechanism after death, there was no harm in immersing himself in it.
"Let’s try it out, then."
