Chapter 21: Ophion
"Step away from her."
The man with a split tongue reeled back in pain as he screamed out, "arghh!!!"
But that scream soon evolved into mocking laughter as he looked directly at his attacker.
Zero watched as the man regrew his tongue before saying, "Just kidding."
"You must be the one who took away my beloved Noa," the man continued, seeing no change on the hitman’s face, "though I must say, you’re younger than–"
The man didn’t get to finish his words when a hand suddenly covered his vision, causing his eyes to go wide.
Guided by his instinct, he quickly moved back, preventing the hand from reaching him.
"What the hell?" He muttered, only to pause as he finally realized what his attacker had intended.
The face grab was never intended as an attack; it was just a move to get him away from the girl, and the white-haired hitman had succeeded.
Zero, ignoring the man before him, turned towards Lea in the wheelchair and noticed that she was completely unconscious.
But judging by her pale skin, the dark blood dripping from her nose, and the green veins, he realized that she had been poisoned.
Also, since the man had mentioned some kind of pill, that only meant one thing,
They had fed his sister Primagen.
And from the look of things, she wasn’t going to awaken, which meant that he was running on a timer.
A timer that was quickly running out.
Zero looked up at the man before him, Ophion.
From his name, one could already guess that his Factor had everything to do with a snake...that is, if his looks weren’t an obvious giveaway already.
But specifically, his awakened factor was similar to the Green Mamba, which meant Lea only had a few minutes before she suffered from Cardiac arrest.
"You’re not going to ask me anything?" Ophion tilted his head, clearly disappointed, "Not even why I poisoned her?"
Zero didn’t respond; instead, his expression remained completely blank...but that didn’t mean he wasn’t angry. freёwebnovel.com
He very much was, but to not let it cloud his mind, he shut down every bit of emotion he felt, leaving behind only the cold-blooded hitman.
And his goal was simple,
"How boring," the man sighed, "I at least expected some—"
Kill this snake in the worst possible way.
Ophion was cut off by something fast, headed towards him, but he managed to react fast enough to catch it.
In his hands was the same bullet that Zero had previously filled with poison, and it contained a similar-looking liquid.
"Is this poison?" Ophion asked as he brought the bullet closer to his nose and his eyes immediately started glowing, "quite a strong one too."
But instead of discarding it, he suddenly clenched his hand around it and lifted it, leaning it towards his mouth.
"Thank you for the drink," he said as he poured the liquid into his mouth and savored it.
His eyes seemed to glow brighter as he turned to his opponent and said, "Shall we get started then?"
The next second, he disappeared, but unlike Iris, Zero knew that Ophion hadn’t teleported.
Instead, he had completely erased his presence, using one of the abilities his factor provided,
Camouflage.
Zero scanned around him, but the attack ended up coming from above him.
Fortunately, though, he was quick to react, because the next second, he raised both arms above his head just in time to block Ophion dropping onto him from the ceiling.
The impact still drove him to one knee, though, but it forced Ophion to disappear again.
Before he could recover, a voice came from behind him,
"I’ll be honest," Ophion said pleasantly, as he stood behind his prey, "I expected more of a reaction when I drank your poison."
He grabbed Zero by the collar and threw him across the room.
Zero slammed into the wall, fell to the ground, but again, he was given no chance to recover, because Ophion was soon upon him again.
The man grabbed his face, lifted him to the wall and slammed his head into it.
"When Noa said you were going to kill us," Ophion continued, "I honestly thought you would be someone terrifying. "
He lifted Zero again and slammed him into the wall.
"But as it turns out, you’re just a fucking kid who’s way in over his head," he continued, disappointment evident in his voice, "makes me wonder how you managed to take out Richard."
There was silence for a short while before Zero finally spoke up, "Let me show you."
Before Ophion could react to that, a katana was suddenly going through his left eye, forcing him to throw the kid across the room and let out a scream of pain.
A real one this time.
He ripped the katana out himself before also throwing it across the room, the blade dissolving the moment it left his grip.
The socket was already healing, with the eye reforming slowly and bloodily, in a way that was deeply unpleasant to watch.
Ophion’s hand covered it on instinct as he looked at the kid with his good one, and that’s when he realized that all this while, the white-haired boy before him seemed completely unarmed,
But he was suddenly pulling stuff out of nowhere. freewebnσvel.cøm
"That’s your Factor?" Ophion guessed, his smile had completely disappeared at this point, "object creation. "
Zero said nothing in response to his question; instead, he just looked completely unexpressive.
The only change, though, was the fact that the wall had opened a cut on his head, causing blood to flow down his face freely.
A pair of fingerless gloves appeared on his hands, and before Ophion had the chance to use Camouflage again, he rushed towards the man.
Ophion lifted his hand from his now-healed eye just as Zero closed the distance between them.
The hitman threw a punch at the snake man, but,
"Too slow," Ophion muttered as he dodged to the side, only for his eyes to widen in surprise as the fist somehow connected with his face, launching him across the room.
Recovering, he realized that the first attack was a feint, and he had fallen for it.
That notion made him chuckle, a chuckle that quickly transformed into maniacal laughter.
Ophion pushed his green hair away from his face as he spat out a mouthful of blood before looking back at the kid and saying,
"Let’s properly get started!"
