Chapter 14: Shopping With Eli

"Big brother, wake up," Eli’s voice slowly pulled Liam from his slumber, which he definitely wasn’t ready to leave just yet.

"Five more minutes," Liam let out with a groan as he tried turning around, but stopped when he noticed the weight on his stomach.

This was probably caused by Eli, who was sitting on him, but he was too tired to open his eyes and check.

Emptying his Pragma reserves was truly not the greatest feeling.

He was so tired that he’d spend the entire day in bed; unfortunately, that wasn’t going to happen.

"There’s a strange woman in our living room."

Eli’s words caused Liam’s eyes to immediately snap open as the events of the previous night flooded in.

He then noticed that it really was his little brother sitting on his stomach, but now wasn’t the time for that.

Liam lifted the kid before standing up and placing him on his shoulder, before dashing out of the room.

Reaching the living room, he suddenly stopped in his tracks and looked at the scene before him.

Lea was comfortably seated on the sofa, watching whatever K-drama was on, but that wasn’t the surprising part.

The cause of his surprise was the person seated beside her, who was also completely absorbed in the TV.

Noa.

Liam let out an exhausted sigh as he recalled that Sable had been indisposed the previous night and would only be picking her up today.

So he was put on babysitting duty.

He truly didn’t want anyone from the grey market interacting with his siblings, but then again, he had nowhere else to leave her.

Leaving her back in Richard’s building was just inviting that group to take her back, so he had no choice but to bring her here.

"That’s the strange woman," Eli suddenly said, pulling the attention of the two towards them.

Lea looked at him for a second before frowning and saying, "Big brother, there’s a guest around."

Liam was confused for a while, but he eventually realized that all he had on was a white tank top and boxers.

After ensuring that Noa was comfortable and taking a shower, he had crashed straight into bed without putting anything else on.

"And you," Lea then turned to Eli, who was still on Liam’s shoulder, "haven’t you been taught not to call people strange to their faces?"

"S-sorry," the kid apologized, but Lea was far from appeased.

"Don’t apologize to me," she said, "apologize to her."

"I’m sorry for calling you strange," Eli turned to Noa, who was curiously looking at them interact, "I just thought your eyes were strange, but in a cool way."

"It’s fine," Noa said, "even I think that my eyes are strange."

Seeing that their guest had accepted the apology, Lea decided to let go and finally turned back to Liam, "Go put on some clothes."

The two boys, after being reprimanded by her, walked back to Liam’s room with their heads down as if they had been wronged.

"So... Um," Lea turned to Noa before asking, "Are you big brother’s girlfriend?"

Liam returned properly dressed before walking to the kitchen with Eli, leaving Lea and Noa in the living room.

He put the kid on the counter before walking to the fridge, only to realize that they still hadn’t restocked.

"...." Liam silently looked at the empty fridge before muttering, "I guess it’s time to go shopping."

He then turned towards Eli and asked, "wanna come along?"

"Yeah!" Eli let out in excitement, causing him to smile. freewebnoveℓ.com

"Go get your shoes then," Liam said, lifting him off the counter.

Eli was already running down the hallway before he finished the sentence.

Liam closed the empty fridge and leaned against the counter for a moment, listening to the sounds coming from the living room.

It seems Lea and Noa had, somehow, naturally become friends.

Normally, he wouldn’t trust someone from an Awakened humans trafficking villain group, but there was something in her expression when she spoke about the group coming to retrieve her that he didn’t like.

Besides, she seemed to be the same age as Lea, if only a year or two older; there was no way he’d sleep peacefully if he let that group take her.

Which was strange, given the things he had done.

With a sigh, he moved away from the counter and walked to the living room doorway, causing both of them to look up.

"Eli and I are going shopping," Liam informed, "We’ll be back in an hour. Would you like anything?"

Instead of Lea, Noa was the one who answered, "snacks."

Liam turned his attention towards her before asking, "What kind of snack?"

"Anything sweet," she answered.

"Alright then," he nodded before turning back to Lea, "and you?"

"Strawberry milk," Lea answered after a moment of thought.

She had been informed that her brother received quite the first pay from whatever job he was doing, so she might as well ask for something she really wanted.

Liam nodded, "Got it."

He was about to turn away when Noa suddenly spoke again, "and chocolate."

"Chocolate?" He asked, turning back to her.

"Hmm," Noa nodded, "I always wanted to try chocolate, but they wouldn’t let me."

"I see," Liam muttered before nodding, "alright then."

"And ice cream, pretzels, cookies, and jelly babies."

"No," he immediately cut off her list, "you’ll only get chocolate, and that’s it."

Noa’s mood visibly plummeted, causing Lea to struggle to hold back her laughter.

The girl, even though she was older, reminded her of their little brother Eli.

Speaking of which,

"I’m ready!" Eli suddenly reappeared with shoes on and completely ready to head out.

He even wore a black hoodie that matched Liam’s, a detail that caused him to chuckle.

After saying goodbye to Lea, Eli headed out with Liam, leaving the two to their K-drama.

The supermarket was quite a distance away, so the two had to order a ride to get there faster. freewebnovel.cσ๓

Eli was immediately made to sit in the shopping cart as they started picking out all they might need.

"Eggs," Eli pointed towards the direction of the eggs, and Liam rolled him towards them, allowing him to pick out a crate.

After a few minutes of moving around the supermarket and picking out what they needed, the two finally headed towards the counter.

"Lovely day, isn’t it?" Liam spoke up with a smile as he reached the counter, "Olivia."

Standing behind the counter was a girl who seemed no older than him, her name tag holding the name he had just read.

"Y-yeah," Olivia moved a strand of hair behind her hair as she looked at the customer.

Liam was quite handsome, and that wasn’t him being narcissistic; the problem was that he barely took care of his hair.

At least the former Liam, anyway, so they always blocked a view of his face, unlike right now.

So Olivia’s reaction was normal.

He then started unloading the items from his cart as he continued looking at her,

"So," Liam spoke up, "how long have you worked here?"

"Six months," Olivia nervously answered as she started scanning the items.

"That’s pretty impressive," he said.

"It is?" She asked, a bit confused about what was so impressive about working in a supermarket for six months.

"Yeah," Liam nodded, "honestly, I’d have quit after a week."

"Really?" Olivia asked.

"Definitely. I’d eat all the snacks before they reached the shelves."

That successfully got her to laugh, and Liam immediately nodded in satisfaction, "There we go."

"What?" Olivia soon stopped laughing and looked at him.

"Nothing," Liam said, "it’s just that I prefer the laughing you to the nervous you."

From the cart, Eli watched the interaction with narrowed eyes. Something suspicious was happening.

"I-I see," she muttered before scanning the last item, "that’ll be seven hundred and fifty dollars."

He quickly did the transfer, picked up the bags, and turned to her with a smile, "See you around, Olivia."

"Y-yeah, see ya," she muttered, watching him turn around and leave.

The moment he was out the door, she let out a sigh and tapped the earpiece in her ear, which she had adjusted by moving that strand of hair behind her ear.

"That was exhausting," Olivia said as she slumped on the counter.

[You were the one who wanted a break from being a hero and insisted on trying normal jobs, so don’t you dare complain,] a voice came from the other end.

"Yeah, but what if someone recognizes me?" She muttered.

[That’s like saying normal people will recognize Valor when he’s wearing glasses,] the person on the other end answered, [you’ll be fine, after all, you look quite different from normal,]

[Radiance.]

Meanwhile, outside the supermarket, Liam let out a smile as he muttered, "she really is real."

Eli, on the other hand, was looking up at Liam suspiciously.

"Big brother."

"Hm?"

"Were you flirting?"

Liam nearly dropped a grocery bag.

"Where did you even learn that word?"
