Chapter 1068: Chapter 1068: Guidance
That midday, a few of them stopped at a small shop for some refreshments.
Just as they sat down, an elder entered from outside.
Calling him an elder might not be entirely accurate, as this person was about fifty years old, carrying a sword on his back, and after entering, he sat at a table next to Qi Er and them.
You Er noticed the weapon on his back and couldn’t help but glance at him a couple more times.
The elder looked over coolly, "What are you looking at, kid?"
You Er quickly bowed to the elder, "Please forgive me, elder. It’s just that your long sword seems quite unusual, so I took an extra look."
The elder looked at You Er, "My sword is nothing out of the ordinary. How do you see it as unusual?"
You Er said, "Your sword, its sheath, and hilt all look quite common, but your sword is longer and wider than normal ones."
The elder nodded slightly, "Kid, you have keen eyes. My sword is a few points wider and a few inches longer than normal swords, but most wouldn’t notice unless they looked carefully."
He looked at You Er and suddenly said, "Would you be willing to exchange a few moves with this old man?"
You Er blinked, "Is the elder suggesting with swords?"
The elder nodded, "Seeing as you also carry a sword, naturally it will be with swords."
You Er hesitated a bit, "Elder, you’re at such an age already, and swords can be blind—"
The elder immediately frowned and interrupted You Er, "I’m still quite spry, old man. Enough with the nonsense, just tell me if you’ll humor me or not?"
You Er sensed the elder meant no harm, quickly stood up, and bowed, "Please, senior, enlighten me."
The elder picked up his sword and headed outside, and You Er quickly followed.
Outside the inn, there was a courtyard. The elder stood still in the courtyard and slowly drew his sword from its sheath.
Looking at the sword, You Er’s pupils involuntarily constricted.
The sword was entirely pitch-black, and once unsheathed, it glinted with a cold light, clearly not an ordinary item.
He also slowly drew his own sword and assumed a starting position.
The elder watched his movements, his gaze seemingly distant for a moment before he warmly said, "Come, make your move."
"You need not worry about harming me, just use your full strength."
Hearing the elder, You Er tentatively made a move, which the elder easily deflected.
Afterward, the elder said sternly, "Your strike is weak, and your sword stroke was three inches off. It should have been aimed at my chest, but it’s nearing the armpit instead. Be more serious, start again!"
After the elder’s words, You Er dared not be casual and gathered all his spirit to attack once more.
No matter which direction he attacked from, the elder always easily blocked his sword, saying, "Too slow, the speed of your stroke needs to be faster. This way, even if others know where you’re attacking, they won’t be able to fend it off."
"Faster, faster!"
You Er’s sword swung faster and faster, but the elder still wasn’t satisfied, "This move is too clumsy. When changing moves, not only your wrist but your whole body should move."
"Yes, just like that."
Qi Er watched from the side, realizing the elder wasn’t competing with You Er but clearly giving him pointers.
He listened carefully to the elder’s words, suddenly his expression shook, and he became somewhat excited; he realized who this elder was!
You Er and the elder repeatedly exchanged moves in the courtyard.
The elder continuously corrected and guided You Er.
The two sparred for nearly half an hour, during which the elder always easily blocked but never attacked You Er.
As You Er thrust towards the elder again, the elder suddenly changed his usual tact and with a powerful stroke of his long sword struck down on You Er’s sword. With a clang, You Er’s sword broke into two pieces.
