Chapter 24: Chapter 24

Chapter 24

Vanessa looked panicked and looked like she wanted to leave now that her scheme was discovered. I was seconds away from throwing both her and Amelia out.

I was so done with Amelia’s bullshit, she was suing me for custody of my daughter and making the divorce difficult because she wants more. She always wants more. She’s never satisfied with what she has. And soon that greed will be the end of the Amelia show.

I look at Amelia and she looks at me confused. I made it a point to make sure she didn’t know anything about Stella’s conception or how she got to me. It wasn’t because I was ashamed of my daughter or the way she was delivered to me. But a part of me wanted to protect her and I can see my instincts were right. The only people who knew the truth about that day was, Carly, Michael, Cole and myself.

I looked at Amelia. "What exactly are you trying to accomplish here?"

For a brief second I see uncertainty cross her face before it’s gone.

But I saw it. It confirmed her little performance was falling apart. Today wasn’t going the way she had anticipated. Honestly if Carly hadn’t been called to the bank seven days ago. This might have worked on me.

"Chase..." she says handing me a paper.

I look at it and scoff.

"Your little performance has gone of for long enough. You think I’m going to believe this shit? Whoever got you these will end up in jail or losing their job. You better leave before I do something I regret." I warn her, pointing toward the door.

It seems Amelia doesn’t take me seriously. She laughs. "The DNA test is real Chase. You know I wouldn’t lie to you. I’m doing this for Stella can’t you see that? I found her mother. So you’d stop having rando maniacs near her..." She looks at Carly standing by the stairs.

"That’s what this is about Amelia? You faked a DNA report. Brought this woman into my house without my permission by the way. All so you didn’t like Carly spending time with Stella?" I ask.

She looks at me uncertain of what to say.

"I think it’s best if the two of you leave..." I say.

Amelia scoffs. "And leave the two of you alone here doing God knows what while Stella’s not home? Need I remind you she’s Stella’s nanny Chase. Have more class than that." Amelia was radiating with anger now. I didn’t understand where it came from.

What the fuck did Carly and I being alone have to do with her.

"What I do in my own fucking home, I paid for with my own fucking money has nothing to do with you. Whether I fuck Carly or not has nothing to do with you. If I remember correctly. We’re weeks away from our divorce being finalized." I remind her.

Amelia looks at me hurt. "Chase..." she tries to talk but I cut her off.

"Leave..." I point toward the front door.

Both Amelia and Vanessa turned to look at the door but doesn’t make a move for the door.

"Chase come on now. You can’t serious. How would Stella feel if you did this to her mother..." she tries to reason with me.

"Don’t test me Amelia. I don’t know what I’d do if you provoke me any further." I was seconds away from making the both of them disappear and never be found again.

Amelia laughed nervously. "Don’t be ridiculous."

"Leave!" I roared. This time I made sure my voice was as cold as ice.

It was the tone I’d use when I was finally snapping, I’d only used it one other time it was when Amelia convinced herself Stella was meant to be a star. She’d taken my daughter to an audition and thought my brother wouldn’t find out about. I’d filed for divorce the next day.

Vanessa rushed for the door so fast a barely saw her moving. She was smarter than she looked.

But Amelia, being Amelia, she didn’t take my threat seriously. The woman remained stubborn until the end.

"You can’t seriously be throwing me out. Me of all people. Chase don’t be ridiculous!" she screeches. freewebnøvel.coɱ

I moved towards her. "Watch me..." I say.

"Chase..." she moves backward away from me.

"Out." I say when I have her two arms in my hands.

"Chase, don’t. Don’t do this..." she begs as I drag her toward the door. freewёbnoνel.com

"Amelia I asked you nicely but you wouldn’t listen to me. Now you’re forced to listen to me. Nothing you say will change my mind..." I say once she’s out the door.

"Chase. Let me back in." She tries to force her way back in, but I didn’t budge.

"Take this woman with you and make sure I never see her ever again. Or the both of you will regret it!" I slam the door before Amelia could say anything else to annoy me.

I lock the door making sure Amelia couldn’t come back in.

Once the house was filled with silence, I finally breathed a sigh of relief. I rubbed my temples, I had a fucking migraine. The same excruciating pain whenever I dealt with my soon to be ex wife.

What the hell had that been? What the hell had Amelia been thinking she’d achieve with that stunt? If anything it only made me want her to stay as far away from Stella as possible. I didn’t want her to ever see my daughter again.

"I’m sorry about Amelia..." I apologize to Carly as soon as I walk back into the living room.

"It’s okay... It’s not like you planned it or anything. But if she’d come with that woman sooner. I think I would have believed her. Honestly I think she might have been a little jealous..." Carly says quietly.

It put me deep in thought. Would I have believed Amelia if we didn’t know Carly was Stella’s mother? I don’t know if I would have. But I know I wouldn’t have had that woman meet my daughter until I was sure.

"I’m sorry Carly could we perhaps put off on discussing how we’ll tell Stella you’re her mother? I’m exhausted from dealing with Amelia. Maybe we can discuss it the weekend after Stella’s down for a nap..." I suggest.

She nods. "Of course. It gives us time to process it to. I still have to come to terms with being a mother too..." She says softly it was barely a whisper.

I nod. "Yeah that too. I just don’t know what Amelia was trying to accomplish with this damn charade..." I was still so fucking angry with her for messing with my head like this. I knew it wasn’t true and I took it out on Vanessa because I couldn’t take it out on Carly.

She didn’t remember leaving Stella. I couldn’t blame her when she is already blaming herself.

The last thing she needed was me unloading my shit on her too.

My phone rang and Carly went back upstairs giving me some privacy.

I pulled my phone from my back pocket.

Michael.

This better be good.

I answered immediately. "Tell me you’ve got something useful." I needed answers. I needed anything that could lead me to answers about what exactly happened back then.

Michael let out a little chuckle before he answered me. "I’ve got everything. I waited because I wanted to give you everything at once. I believe you’ll be interested in what I found." he says.

I straightened. Finally!

"What did you find?" I ask.

"A lot." he says. The seriousness in his voice erased every remaining thought about Amelia’s charade, her bringing that fraud Vanessa and the blame I had for Carly in my heart.

All I cared about was what he got.

"What did you get?" I asked.

"There’s things I can’t say over the phone, we need to discuss it face to face. It’s safer that way..."

My stomach twists. Fuck what did I get myself into? The seriousness in his voice told me that it wasn’t a good sign.

"When can you get here?" I ask him.

"I’m already on my way, I’ll be at the house in a half an hour at most."

I glanced toward the stairs, where Carly was probably in her room, digesting the information. I couldn’t imagine how she must be feeling. She had no memory to explain her actions to me or herself.

"How bad is it?" I ask him.

Michael pauses and sighs before he answers me. "Bad enough that you’re going to want to sit down before I tell you. Hell you might even want a drink too." he says.

Fuck!

"Okay..." I say before hanging up.

And suddenly, Amelia’s ridiculous stunt was the last thing on my mind. What could be so damn bad that my assistant was worried about my reaction. Was it Carly? That nurse friend of hers or wasn’t it Carly who dropped Stella off that day?

Did he find clues about that day? I looked into it when it happened but I didn’t look into it further. I didn’t care about me. I had Stella and she was all that mattered to me.
