Chapter 79: Chapter 78 - Monster Extermination(Part 4)

Point-of-View: Mike Barnes

———————————————————————————

"Uh, should we stop him-...never mind, that’s a stupid question, it’s too late now that he’s killed the priest," Sighed Cyrillus, as Zoraiz tossed aside the priest’s body onto the ground.

"Well, let’s stay hidden unless he needs help...but against normal humans, I doubt he will," I responded, as Zoraiz turned his gaze to the other followers, all of whom had stopped what they were doing.

"Right...still, that was awfully reckless."

"True, but I can’t exactly say I blame the kid. Also, I’ve seen him annoyed and irritated plenty of times, but I’ve never seen him this enraged and pissed off before...I don’t think there was any stopping him, even if we did see this coming," I mused with a grimace.

I really didn’t expect this mission to get so ugly, this was just supposed to be a simple Monster extermination mission...had I known this was a possibility, I wouldn’t have brought him along.

Because once you’ve seen how dark and ugly humans can be, once you’ve experienced that side of them, it’s hard to go back to the way you used to be...even if you can maintain your persona on the outside, there’ll be a small part inside you that will never be the same ever again.

"Whoa...you seeing the kid’s Aura right now?" Whispered Cyrillus, as the followers began yelling at Zoraiz.

Hm?

"Oh, wow...," I muttered, as I activated Appraisal, "He’s not losing control over the suppression, but his emotions are intensifying the Aura, causing it to spike. The range won’t increase since he’s still keeping it properly suppressed, but...the pressure within that ten meter or so radius around him will be immense. Well, not that it matters against normal humans, since they won’t feel it either way."

"Uh, I wouldn’t say that it doesn’t matter, not in this particular situation...," Replied Cyrillus grimly, "This place is probably brimming with malice and despair already...him adding to that negative energy with his own malice and rage could be really, really bad..."

Crap, he’s right...the increase in malice might attract Monsters, and with the currently heightened intensity of his Aura, suppressed or not, that could be a sufficient catalyst for a Monster to fully open a rift between our world and the Mirror Dimension. And if that happens, this situation could get a whole lot messier than it already is...

Point-of-View: Zoraiz Rafayet

———————————————————————————

"N-no, Father Isandro!"

"H-he...he killed him!"

"How the hell d-did an outsider get in!?"

"Damn it, what are the guards doing!?"

"Get that bastard!"

"Kill him!"

How disgustingly pathetic...

"Are you lowlife degenerates really that upset over such a scumbag’s death? Or is that you’re upset over the fact that I interrupted your degeneracy?" I inquired coldly, as the all rushed towards me angrily, "Very well, then...I’ll wipe you all out right along with your rotten religion!"

I then evaded as one of them swung a whip at me, before zipping in close towards him and grabbing his throat.

"W-wait, hold on-...!" He began in alarm, before I cut him off by crushing his throat, blood pouring out of his mouth as he collapsed onto the ground with a thud, writhing and clawing at his throat as he let out agonized choking sounds.

I leapt up as two of them then tried to surround and grab me from either side, before taking hold of their heads while in midair and slamming them onto each other as hard as I could, crushing both their skulls, a loud, bloody crunch echoing out upon impact.

As their bodies collapsed and fell to the ground, the remaining followers, about twenty of them, stepped back warily, fear in their eyes as I shifted my gaze over to them.

The anger and rage I was feeling only continued to grow as I took in their cowering, fearful expressions...the same expressions that they’d been causing with absolute glee. But now that the tables have been turned, they can’t handle this taste of their own medicine.

I’ll keep plunging them deeper and deeper into despair, as I slowly but surely take them out, one by one...yeah, that’s right, I’ll have them writhing in agony till their last breaths, the four I just killed got off easy. But the rest won’t be so lucky.

By the time I’m done with them, they’ll be begging for mercy, just as their victims must have begged them countless times, to no avail.

Their terrified expressions really piss me off...what right do you pieces of shit have to look like that? Don’t you understand? This is what you get...you’re getting exactly what you deserve. Now, then-...

"Zoraiz, behind you! Watch out!" Mike’s voice suddenly cut through the tense atmosphere with a tone of alarm.

"There’s someone else here!"

"Who are you!?"

"H-how dare you trespass here!"

As the followers shifted their attention to Mike and began screaming at him, I glanced back in response, before my eyes widened in shock...the air a few meters behind me was distorted and shimmering, and something was emerging from the distortion...something with a wide row of black, glistening fangs and gleaning red eyes.

I backed away several steps as it emerged, cries of confusion and disbelief ringing out from the remaining followers as deep cracks spread out across the floor, as the Monster stepped out of the distortion and into the room.

What the hell...based on its appearance, it matches the description of the Monsters that Aurora had to deal with while she was living in a cave, so it must be a Chupacabra, except that...the creature I was staring at was the size of an elephant, while Aurora said that the ones she encountered were no bigger than large dogs.

It let out a vicious snarl as it locked onto me, it’s eyes narrowly sharply, before breaking through and knocking over a pillar as it took a step forward, dust and bits of rubble raining down from the ceiling as it did.

"I-is something there!?"

"What just happened!?"

As the followers began to panic in their confusion, I realized that this underground chamber was being supported by only a few pillars, and just knocking over one had seriously destabilized the structure...

"Get out of there, the whole place is about to come down!" Yelled Mike, noticing the same thing as he and Cyrillus ran back up there stairs.

Damn it...!

"What rotten timing!" I snapped in frustration, before zipping right towards the followers, who were starting to scramble towards the stairs.

I partially unleashed my Aura as I leapt over them, triggering the Monster to give chase, and it obliged with a ravenous snarl as I stomped towards me. Excruciating screams of pain and the sound of bones breaking rang out as it inadvertently crushed them underfoot.

I leapt forward to evade as a large chunk of concrete came plummeting down towards me, the chamber rapidly collapsing in on itself as the Monster shot towards me.

As I raced along the left wall, the side in which the room was collapsing slower, I broke as many shackles as I could and grabbed the captives, before rushing for the stairs as fast as I could with four of them in my arms.

I reached the stairs and glanced back, just in time to see the last of the followers get crushed by falling debris, before I raced back up along the stairs as the Monster snapped its jaws at me, just in time. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Come on, hurry! The stairs were starting to collapse too, the walls and ceiling of the passageway caving in at an alarming rate. I winced as I felt a chunk of rubble lightly hit my shoulder, as I continued to make my way back towards the top of the stairs as fast as I could, while carrying the unconscious captives in my arms.

As the top finally came into sight, the sliding painting having fallen off, I looked up in alarm as a large chunk came falling down towards me...oh, no, I don’t think I can dodge that one!

Suddenly, a powerful blast of water came shooting towards the falling rubble and blew it away, before it could fall onto and crush me to death.

"Come on, hurry up, kid!" Yelled Mike from the top of the stairs, urging me on.

I gritted my teeth and let out a determined roar as I put on a burst of speed, pushing my current limits with my Physical Skill as far as I could without compromising my control, as I raced up the stairs and leapt out through the opening as I reached the top.

Mike and I then shot for the exit as fast as we could, the floor of the church collapsing as the underground chamber fully caved in, the two of up rushing out through the front doors as deafening crashes echoed out behind us, bits of debris and rubble flying out as a dust cloud rose up, right as we came to a halt by the trees, several meters away from the church.

"Damn...that really escalated quickly," Remarked Mike with a grimace, as we watched the building crumble and fall apart in a matter of seconds.

"That was, uh, anything but subtle. Though I suppose that all those inhumane bastards dying isn’t a bad thing," Added Cyrillus, who was sitting on the ground, his back leaning against a tree.

As they continued to stare at the rising dust cloud from the collapsed church, I began to set down the people I’d managed to save, before stiffening...one of them was dead, a young girl, her head smashed in.

It must have happened while...while I was running up the stairs. Some of the falling rubble hit her...and I didn’t even notice, let alone prevent it.

There were three others, two children, a boy and a girl, and a woman who looked like she was in her mid-twenties...all of them were unconscious, but still alive.

I felt myself start to tremble as I saw all the scars and wounds all over their bodies, clenching my fists and gritting my teeth as a tear of frustration ran down from my right eye...damn it, even after gaining these powers, it was all I could do to just save three people, I’m...I’m no less helpless or weak than I used to be.

What’s the point of having these powers if this was all I could do, huh? I hate this feeling, this sense of powerlessness. My mind knows what I need to do, but my body can’t keep up.

I’m still as weak as ever, but these powers made me overconfident...I only gained these powers by chance, nothing more, but I still let it get to my head. Damn it...damn it...!
