Chapter 47: Chapter 46 - The Girl Who Raises Cheetahs(Part 2)

Point-of-View: Aurora Pretorius

———————————————————————————

Today’s the 16th of May, I think...it’s been fifteen days since I came across that strange glass-like object, and nothing’s really happened since then. freёwebnoѵel.com

It took me less than two days to get the floaty pressure stable and under control, but I still don’t understand how the new ability that I gained works. I could form a huge amount of black mist, but other than blinding someone, it doesn’t really do anything.

But I could tell that that wasn’t the extent of this power, I could feel a certain...complexity to it, but I can’t quite understand it.

Anyway, it was currently some time late at night, and I was trying to figure this ability out. I was feeling sleepy, but I was also kinda restless over the frustration of being unable to figure out how this ability works.

I could control the amount of black mist that I produce, as well as how dark and dense it was, but that was all. I couldn’t do anything else with this ability yet...and that was really frustrating. So far, I’ve been able to slowly but surely learn how to use my other abilities, but with this one, I have no idea how to progress.

I then let out a tired sigh and stopped, deciding to go to sleep. It’s already way later than the time at which I usually go to sleep, and I’m really sleepy. I yawned as I headed into the cave, where Dot and a couple of the other cheetahs were sleeping.

If I wake up too late, I won’t be able to cook the meat that they bring in...that won’t do, all of them prefer cooked meat over raw, and it’s not like they can cook it themselves.

As I reached the back of the cave, I curled up next to Dot at the back of the cave, drifting off as soon as I closed my eyes, my consciousness fading rapidly. I’m so tired...

...

...

If only I hadn’t slept late last night...if only I’d woken up even ten minutes earlier than I did...if only I hadn’t touched that glass-like object...i-if only...if only...

The next morning, I was fast asleep, when I felt something wet against my face...I let out slight grumble as I opened my right eye, to see Dot licking my face frantically-...I then froze as I heard noises echoing out from outside the cave, the sound of pained yelps and screeches of agony, the sound of loud blasts and...the sound of human voices.

I abruptly sat up and got onto my feet with a sense of dread and growing despair, my heart rate getting faster and faster as my breathing turned ragged. I then shifted my gaze to Dot and gave her a command...

"Stay in here and hide, don’t leave the cave no matter what!"

I then shot forward at top speed, zipping out of the cave entrance...and the sight that met my eyes filled me with shock and horror, my chest tightening as I let out a horrified gasp...

All the cheetahs...were dead. Their bodies were mangled, torn apart, cut to pieces, sliced in half...the green grass was painted red by their entrails, the brutally murdered bodies of my family stained with blood, their fur matted red, amidst a sea of bloody crimson in my eyes...

"That must be the Outlier!"

"Damn, what is with her Aura?"

"We need to incapacitate and capture her, don’t kill her!"

The humans that had showed up were talking, there were about ten of them, but I couldn’t hear a word they were saying...

What is this?

H-huh?

Why...why is this happening?

What did I...what did I do to deserve this?

Huh?

Huh?

I don’t understand why...why do I keep having to go through this?

And why...why is it more and more painful every time?

There were a ringing in my ears, my vision was blurry and shaky, it felt like everything around me was spinning. I felt sick, my body felt cold and hot at the same time, trembling as I struggled to comprehend the sight before me.

A bead of sweat ran down the side of my face, tears welling up in my eyes as a quiet, hollow gasp escaped my lips. Both my heart and my mind felt like they were being torn apart, an unimaginable pain throbbing agonizingly in my chest.

And then...something snapped.

The various emotions inside me that were swirling around in my head gave way to a single emotion, one that eclipsed all the other emotions I was feeling...pure, endless rage. Just like the area around me, all I could see in my mind...was a bloody, crimson red.

"Hey, you, do you understand what I’m saying? I’ll get straight to the point. That power you’ve gained belongs to us, and now that you’ve stolen it, you belong to us too. Come with us, or we’ll have to use force-...," One of them began, before being interrupted as I tore his head off...with an arm-shaped mass of black mist, without moving even a step from where I was standing.

I let out a ferocious scream of fury and despair, tears streaming down my eyes as a massive amount of black mist bursting out around me and forming in the shape of cat-like silhouette, shrouding my body, with long arms and long, sharp claws, as I instinctively and subconsciously combined the new ability I’d gained with the ability that made my body and mind cat-like.

I could extend the arms really far, and I could feel that it was also acting as a shield. I’ve...I’ve never felt this much anger and rage before, and yet, my mind was perfectly, eerily calm...I knew exactly what I had to do, and exactly what I wanted to do...

"Sh-shit, the intensity of her Aura pressure is spiking like crazy, I-I can barely move!"

I want to kill them all. I have to kill them all. I will kill them all.

One down...nine more to go.

"Watch out, she’s coming-...!" A woman began to exclaim, before I rapidly extended the right arm of the shadowy cat arm, the claws piercing through her waist and tearing her body in half before she even realized that I’d struck her.

I then raced forward on all fours, they began to respond in alarm but...but they were far too slow. And their movements are so clumsy...I slipped behind one of them with ease, he started to turn his head around, but he shouldn’t have bothered, there’s no point in even trying...

"Die," I remarked coldly, the first word that I’d spoken out loud in over six years, before spearing my claws through his heart from behind.

I then pulled my arm out with a violent twist, his body starting to plummet, as I shot towards another of them before his body crashed onto the ground.

"N-no, stay a-away! W-Water Sla-...!" He screamed in fear, water forming in his hands, before I tore his head off and flung it towards one of the others with all my strength.

The head struck her chest and caved it in with a loud crush, as she let out a strangled scream of pain, before collapsing onto the ground and writhing around in agony.

She’ll die soon enough from an injury like that...I’ll let her suffer. Five left to kill.

"Sh-she’s a monster, we need to get away!" Came a panicked yell.

"Yeah, we have to report this to Miss Arisu, otherwise-!" Began another, before I shot towards him, leaping at him and tearing his head off with a furious roar as I closed in on him, the calm fury in my head erupting into a blinding, seething rage...

"What the h-hell is this, we didn’t sign up for this, I-I can barely move!"

"Th-this Aura capacity and pressure is ridiculous! We don’t stand a chance here, retreat, now!"

Retreat? What? Do they really think I’m going to let them run away? They can’t run away...not after I already decided to kill them all.

These humans...these vile humans killed my family. So I’m going to kill them all. All of them will die...die...die...

.

.

.

...die, die, die, DIE!!!

"Y-you...all of...you, I-I will...I will KILL YOU ALL!!!!" I yelled in anguish, as tears of rage and sorrow ran down my face, my fingers dripping with blood...

"D-don’t get cocky, bitch!" Exclaimed one of them in a panic, as he suddenly formed a large fireball and shot it towards me.

Hm? I see...I’m not the only one with superpower-like abilities. But that’s fine...they’re so slow, even this fireball is slow. I easily dodged it and rapidly sprinted towards him and swung my right arm up, vertically tearing his body in half as I simultaneously extended my shadowy arm.

"N-no, please don’t-...!" Screamed my next target, as I closed in on him before he could react, and tore open his throat with my claws.

"I-I’m getting out of here!" Stuttered one of the remaining two, suddenly flying up rapidly.

No, I can’t let him escape! I shot towards him and leapt up as high as I could while I simultaneously swung my arm up and extended the shadowy arm as far as I could to try and grab him...but he was too far up, and all I could manage was to tear off his right leg from below the knee and his left foot.

He let out an excruciating scream of pain as he used fire to stop the bleeding, before flying away, too fast for me to catch up.

"G-get back, t-take me with you, I don’t want to d-...!" Cried the last one, before I snuck up behind him and crushed his head with the grip of my bare hand.

Damn it...I couldn’t kill them all...one of them escaped. The shadowy cat shroud around me then faded, as my knees buckled and I collapsed onto the blood-soaked grass, my eyes welling up with tears again.

I...I failed to protect them. And...a-and now, because of me, they’re all-...damn it...damn it...!

I then stiffened and got back onto my feet, stumbling back before shakily walking towards the cave...Dot, please be okay! I...I don’t want to be alone again...p-please, I just can’t take it anymore...

My heart began to pound and my blood ran cold as I walked past the bodies of the cheetahs...I-I couldn’t do it...I couldn’t keep my promise to protect them.

If only I hadn’t slept late last night...if only I’d woken up even ten minutes earlier...if only I hadn’t touched that glass-like object...i-if only...if only...

As I stumbled into the cave and saw Dot, sitting at the back of the cave, I rushed towards her in relief as my emotions began to overwhelm me. I released the command I put on her and hugged her tightly, as tears welled up in my eyes.

A choked sob escaped my lips, my shoulders trembling as tears began streaming down my face, whimpering in anguish and misery, as I buried my head against her fur.

And before I knew out, I was wailing and sobbing uncontrollably, the tears flowing out endlessly as immense anger, sorrow and despair welled up and surged inside me, like a violent storm raging and tearing apart everything in sight...
