Chapter 225: Chapter 224 - Lux
Point-of-View: Inoka Fonseka
———————————————————————————
"Wait, you want me to approach a Dragon Deity, just like that?" I frowned apprehensively.
"Relax, you’ll be fine. I took the twins to a Dragon Deity too, and Zoraiz and Alexis to Rival Elemental Deities," He informed me in response.
"I know that the Light Dragon Deity was one of the ones who caused minimal human casualties during the Monster hunt, but still, do you really think it’ll agree to train a human?" I replied skeptically.
"Just show off what you’re capable of with your Light Skill and I’m sure you’ll gain the Dragon’s interest," He shrugged, before adding, "Anyway, just head over that way and you should encounter it."
This all sounds incredibly half-assed, has he really thought this through?
"Where exactly is this, anyway?" I inquired, looking around.
I was surrounded by tall cliffs, and there’s a river flowing through the middle of the area.
"Oh, the bottom of the Grand Canyon. The Light Dragon Deity is residing here, so yeah. Find it and then show off what you can do," He advised me, before dropping through a portal before I could voice any of my other doubts.
Jerk...he’s just in a hurry to transport the others to the Deities that’ve been chosen for them, isn’t he? Well, fine, whatever...his advice wasn’t exactly mind-blowing stuff, but it’s not like I have any better ideas, so I’ll do as he suggested.
Now, then...how exactly do I find the Deity? He said to head in that direction, which is west, I think. Doesn’t really matter, but I wish he’d been a bit more specific. Like, given me an approximate distance or something.
I let out a sigh as I headed over in that direction, keeping a wary eye out. Are there wild animals down here in the Grand Canyon? I have no idea...but I’m gonna say probably.
I mean, there’s a river here, so animals probably do roam around this area. I probably can fight off a wild animal without too much trouble, considering that I’ve survived going up against Monsters and Demons.
I then stopped as I felt an Aura...this must be it. Deities have such immense Auras that, even when suppressed, you can still sense them from a few dozen meters away.
Basically, if someone with an Aura capacity of 500 suppresses their Aura, they can still be felt from five meters away. So, when it comes to the Elemental Deities, who are estimated to have Aura capacities upwards of 3000, they can be felt from over thirty meters away or so when suppressed.
Which means...I’m close. Very close. Hm, the fact that I can’t see the Dragon likely means that it’s shrunk down to its humanoid form. Maybe that form helps them conserve energy or something?
I mean, these things have got to be at the top of the food chain, I can’t imagine that they’d ever need to hide from anything. Well, not that they need to eat, as Bastet has made clear, despite his recently found love for premium quality cat food. He’s been downing those sachets of wet cat food like slurpies, it’s so gross. That stuff really stinks.
Anyway, I walked around a couple of small rock formations, before stopping as I caught a glimpse of the source of the Aura. Sprawled on the ground, fast asleep with its wings folded over itself like a blanket, was the Light Dragon Deity...I’m assuming.
It had snow white scales covering its body, its wings were smooth and sleek, and its tail was long and slender, curled around its body. It’s got a very...aerodynamic-looking appearance, no spikes or horns like the other Dragons I’ve seen in pictures, or in the case of the Aqua Dragon, directly.
So, uh, should I wake it up? It’s not gonna freak out and attack me if I do, is it? Should I just sit and wait for it to wake up instead? That’s the safer option, but still...who knows how long it’ll take to wake up? It does look pretty fast asleep.
I then took a nervous step back as it stirred a bit, its jaws opening wide as it let out a yawn and raised its head, slowly opening its eyes as it spread its wings out before folding them back in.
It had clear, light blue eyes, and it sounded kinda feminine when it yawned, like its voice was pretty soft.
"U-uh, hi, there...," I trailed off nervously.
"Hm? A human? Are you lost, little one?" She yawned sleepily, her wings opening slightly and fluttering a bit as she stretched her limbs out lazily.
"No, uh, actually...I’m here to make a request of you. I’d like you to train me, with the Hell invasion imminent and whatnot," I replied, steeling myself as I came right out and said it.
"What? What would give you such an idea?" She frowned in bemusement.
Okay, she seems pretty docile, she’s not showing any aggression or condescension towards me. Well, at least not yet. I need to come up with a good response here...
"Well...my mastery over my Light Skill has far surpassed what any other Met-...what any other human is capable of. So, I thought who better to seek improvement from than the being who’s possibly the greatest exponent of the Light Skill ever?" I replied, grimacing as I noticed the Dragon starting to lose interest.
Okay, guess it’s time to take Neo’s suggestion now...I then held up my arm, before extending several bone spikes out of my forearm and increasing the length of my fingers.
"Huh? What am I looking at her?" She responded in bewilderment.
Huh? She looks like she has no idea what I’m doing. Wait, I think I get it...she’s likely never been injured severely enough to need to be able to do this.
"Oh, uh...it’s a technique I invented that lets me not only regrow missing body parts, but also to create new appendages that don’t normally exist. I can even grow an extra pair of arms if I wanted to," I explained, before adding as I got an idea, "You’re aware of the technique that lets us share what we’re feeling with someone else, right? We call it Synchronicity."
"Yes, of course, it is a rather basic technique," She nodded, definitely paying full attention to me now.
"With your permission, let me use that technique so that you can feel exactly what I’m doing. Would that be okay?" I suggested carefully.
"Hm...I must admit, I am quite curious. Very well, then," She responded with a look of intrigue.
I then walked over towards her and placed my hand on her shoulder, while continuing to mess around with my Augmentation technique, growing and retracting bone spikes.
"Ohh, how interesting...yes, I understand now, it is a more advanced and extensive application of basic healing," She mused in fascination.
By basic healing, does she mean regrowing severed body parts? Well, I suppose that would be basic for her. freewebnøvel.coɱ
"With this, you could grow extra arms, form blade-like spikes with you bones-...actually, no, in your case, you could just manipulate your scales instead," I remarked as I analyzed what I was feeling of her physiology through Synchronicity.
"Indeed, I could grow my tail longer and add spikes along the end as well," She replied eagerly.
"Right? It’s pretty awesome, right?" I grinned in response.
"Quite so, very impressive...even with the technique you call Synchronicity active constantly, it would likely take me a few days to master this. However, that would not be possible as you humans do not have the physical energy to stay awake for that long," She sighed wistfully.
There it is, that’s my opening!
"In that case, if you’re open to it, how about I propose I deal? In exchange for training me, I’ll teach you these techniques. I just want you to spar with me for, say, a couple of hours a day for a few weeks or so, upwards of a month, and maybe some help with my Light Skill if you think I’ve got any room for improvement?" I requested hopefully.
"Very well, I agree."
"Huh? Just like that? Not that I’m complaining or anything, but I just thought you might want to put more thought into it," I responded in surprise.
"Ordinarily, I would refuse such a request regardless of the circumstances. However, you have impressed me...out of respect for your ability with the Light Skill, I shall take you under my wing, at least for a short while.
I must say, you have surprised me quite a bit...to begin with, it is not often that a human would approach a being like me, let alone make such a request. Furthermore, to think that a human with possibly an even greater level of mastery over the Light Skill than myself exists is quite incredible. You fascinate me, human," She remarked as she stared at me intently.
"Oh, uh, thanks...I’m really honored. But, if you don’t mind, call me Inoka instead of ’human’," I grinned sheepishly.
"Very well, then, Inoka. And I shall permit me you to address me by my name, Lux."
