Chapter 215: Chapter 214 - Frustrating

Point-of-View: Anarchy/Liling Jin

———————————————————————————

"Wow, he sure acted a lot sooner than I thought he would," I remarked in surprise, as I watched the clips from the London incident a few hours ago.

"Indeed, I did not think that he would take your suggestion this quickly either, it is highly out of character for him," Replied Dracula in agreement.

"Holy crap, he’s really powerful," Chimed in Wrest warily.

"Yes, he is probably the most dangerous Deity, possibly the only Rival Deity superior to the Dragon Deity of the same Skill. Even Satan himself was wary of Laplace. Those two from Harmony did well to land an attack on him, although the fact that it happened at all means that he was not taking them seriously at all," Responded Dracula grimly.

"I’ll say, from the little bit we’ve seen, any Space Skill users are just wildly inferior versions of him," Nodded Glenn in agreement.

"Is it even possible to land an attack on him when he’s fighting seriously?" Frowned Arisu in response.

"It is close to impossible. He does not need to see an attack in order to know that it’s coming. He may not be a mind reader, but as he has observed every single person in the world for all their lives, he is aware of habits and idiosyncrasies that even they themselves may not be aware of. Tricking him is extremely difficult," Surmised Dracula.

"We probably won’t ever need to though. I doubt he’d ever attack us, at least not anytime soon, since without us, things would be less interesting. As an observer, he’ll likely want things to be as exciting and interesting as possible," I pointed out.

Though, if he does decide to attack us for the fun of it or whatever, that’d be pretty chaotic and unexpected. I don’t exactly want it to happen, but it’d be pretty exciting if it did.

"On another note, I wonder if we should have some of our members go get licenses to use their powers, after Harmony removes their involvement with that process," Suggested Wrest objectively.

"For you, that’s not a half-bad idea. The former Eden members in our ranks who were Category 1 and below, I highly doubt anyone would recognize them. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the former Eden members who were abandoned and are now scattered across the world have gone in to get their licenses," Added Arisu in agreement.

Huh? What’re they talking about?

"Have you already forgotten how the process works? To start with, you’re supposed to subject yourself to Dark Skill mind control for an Interrogation to confirm your intentions. And you can’t resist such a Dark Skill technique without the caster knowing, so it’d be impossible to hide anything without illegitimizing your candidacy for a license. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Harmony has been using this process as a way to flush out any former Eden members in hiding," I surmised in response.

"Personally, I think they have bigger concerns, primarily policing the five billion new Meta-Humans in existence. I doubt they’re too focused on what’s left of Eden, but I do agree that it would be foolish for us to take such a risk," Spoke up Lance in agreement.

"Hey, what if you temporarily erase our memories relating to Chaos?" Suggested Camelia, raising her hand.

"A good Dark Skill user will be able to tell, and since they have Inoka, someone who can use Dispel, they can easily undo any memory loss or manipulation," I sighed wistfully.

"In case you forgot, you’re the one who taught him that technique," Glenn reminded me.

"Mhm, and I regret nothing. The things he’s capable of with the Light Skill is nothing short of incredible, I’m fascinated to see how much more he can improve," I replied with a grin.

"Yes, he is a natural enemy to Demons. If he can improve his physical abilities enough to keep up with them, he will be quite a force to be reckoned with," Nodded Dracula in agreement.

"We’re still a ways off before Hell is ready to invade the living world, so he has time. Then again, I doubt Hell will keep completely quiet from now till then. There has to be a reason why Satan offered to form a Summoning Contract with you," I said to Wrest.

"Yeah, he said he’ll let me know when he wants me to Summon him. That’s gonna be really rough, I can’t imagine how of my Aura it’ll take to sustain his presence here," He sighed warily.

"Guess we’ll find out if and when it comes to that. And until then...we’re stuck being bored, I suppose," I mused, as I stared up at the ceiling with a sigh...this is so frustrating, we have a world full of Meta-Humans and several awakened Deities, and I can’t have any fun with it just yet...

"I assume you all already know what happened to Tara, right?" I inquired somberly.

"Yeah, we saw what happened online. She may have been a bitch about it, but she did train us, so it was kind of a shock when we saw her dead," Replied Inoka grimly.

"That thing that killed her. It was a Deity, right?" Alexis asked me.

"Yeah...it was the Rival Space Deity, Laplace. A creature who knows about everything that’s happening everywhere at every single moment, and one of the few rogue Deities who strayed from the path of killing Monsters and Demons, and instead acts in his own self-interest. It’s possible that his actions yesterday will serve to prompt the other rogue Deities to act as well," I responded with a frown.

The lesser Deities who were influenced by Laplace, we’ll have a huge mess on our hands if they decide to act. Having initially played the role of neutral observer, Laplace blindsided his comrades when he killed the Rival Dark and Light Deities, which remain the only known cases of Deities being killed. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

He then influenced a number of lesser Deities to stray from their duties as well, and they began living in ways to satiate their own amusement, manipulating and toying with humans.

Since Deities are immortal, the downside is that they can’t stay awake for more than a few decades at a time, and eventually hibernate for long periods of time. However, Laplace is the exception to that rule.

He’s seen everything that’s happened across every inch of this world throughout centuries upon centuries...the origin of the Deities is completely unknown, but most people believe that they’ve been around since the very beginning of time.

"Hey, you okay? You look distracted," Zoraiz shook my shoulder, snapping me out of it.

"Huh? Oh, right, sorry...I should get to the real reason why I’m here. That fight against Laplace made me realize something...we’re all far too weak. Even with all the Deities except the rogues, plus Aurora and Fenris, we’re too lacking in firepower.

Once Hell invades, Heaven is highly likely to intervene, but based on history, that won’t happen right away. Heaven’s primary focus is the cycle of reincarnation in the living world, and trying to minimize the number of souls that are taken to Hell instead and used to create new Demons and Devils.

And considering that about two billion people have died recently, Heaven’s gonna be pretty busy. There’s no doubt that they’re aware of the situation, and that Demons have been appearing lately, but that’s not enough to make them act.

Of course, I don’t know the exact process in which they operate, but this much is for sure, we can’t afford to rely on their intervention. We all need to get much, much stronger," I surmised with a sense of determination.

"I must agree with that. Normally, I would not interrupt a discussion between you humans, but this concerns me, as well," Chimed in Bastet, dropping down from the cliff atop the waterfall, "A fully powered Demon, especially a Demon of Sin, is beyond the capabilities of anyone here. As I have discovered, the most effective way for a human to grow more powerful...is to be trained by a Deity."

"Yeah, we’ve definitely gotten a lot stronger after training with him," Nodded Zoraiz in agreement.

"Mhm, that’s for sure, we can kinda land our attacks on him now," Added Alexis.

"That’s encouraging to hear. In that case, the rest of you should get training from Bastet too, so that-...," I began to suggest.

"Oh, no, I was not offering to do so. Once I have finished with these two, I will not train anyone else," Bastet shook his head immediately.

"Then why even bring it up?" I sighed in exasperation.

"Have you forgotten that I am not the only Deity in existence? Go find some of the others and try to persuade them if that is what you want," He shrugged in response.

Actually, locating the other Deities won’t be too hard. The problem is convincing them to help us. Yeah, I really don’t see that happening...
