Chapter 204: Chapter 203 - Investigation(Part 2)

Point-of-View: Inoka Fonseka

———————————————————————————

"Saying that was messed up would be a serious understatement...what the actual fuck?" I sighed wearily.

"Yeah, I feel sick to my stomach," Nodded Leonardo in agreement, a grimace on his face.

"We should just go ahead and kill them if we find them," I remarked in disgust.

"I strongly second that," Nodded Fenris with a frown.

We’d just finished questioning the other surviving victim, a woman who had been brainwashed into killing her kids.

She’d initially been arrested for murder, while insisting that she didn’t remember a thing, suddenly finding herself with blood on her hands and her kids’ corpses laying in front of her, before the two in clown masks informed her of what they made her do.

The police only treated her as a victim instead of a murderer after the other incidents began springing up, and finally took her seriously. But they hadn’t fully cleared her of suspicion, which is understandable.

But after I used my Light Skill to confirm that she had residual traces of Dark Skill manipulation, and Aurora used her senses to confirm that she wasn’t lying, they finally cleared her of all suspicion.

How truly awful, those two brainwashed her into killing her own children, and set it up so that she’d get all the blame for it...that’s probably the only reason why she wasn’t killed afterwards.

I’m pretty apathetic even on the best of days, but this is some seriously vile shit...in my head, I always thought the worst things you could do to another person are murder and rape. I guess I lacked imagination.

After the incident at the hotel, with the woman whom we questioned first, there have been five more of these incidents, but with no survivors. The most recent one had been discovered five hours ago, and we were currently heading for the scene of the crime.

The bodies of the victims had been moved, but the crime scene had otherwise not been tampered with, so hopefully, Aurora will be able to catch a whiff of their scents. Fenris can help with that too.

"So, it all likelihood, our targets are Luna Castillo, aka Astra, and the Condition user of Eden, whom we know absolutely nothing about," I surmised, as we arrived outside the building where the crime scene was located in.

The area was cordoned off with yellow tape, and there were a bunch of cops standing guard, heavily armed.

"Yeah...keep your guards up, they must be aware that Harmony would come after them eventually, so they could be lurking around, waiting to ambush us," Warned Leonardo cautiously.

I don’t know about that, seems like he might be overthinking it.

"No need to worry about that. I can sense bloodlust and hostility directed at me, and based on everything they’ve done, I highly doubt they can suppress those feelings," Frowned Aurora, as we headed into the building, after showing one of the cops standing guard a letter than we’d been given in the police station.

"Yeah, it’ll take a lot to fool our senses," Added Fenris in agreement.

"Still, we should stay alert. There’s no sense in approaching this carelessly," He stated firmly.

I mean, I guess he’s got a point there...well, there’s no harm in being extra careful, so I’ll oblige.

"Let’s see, the crime scene is room number 26 on the second floor, right?" I inquired, as we headed for the elevator.

"That’s right. Hm, no security cameras or intruder alarms...they must have chosen to target someone in this building due to the low security," Frowned Leonardo, as we entered the elevator and pressed the button labeled ’2’.

"Hey, what’re you doing?" I asked Aurora, whose nose was twitching.

"I’m internalizing all the scents around, I started as soon as the building came into sight. It’ll be easier to trace the scents of our targets the more familiar I am with the scents in the area," She explained in response.

"I see...maybe we should go back down and take the stairs, just in case they used those instead of the elevator," Surmised Leonardo, after mulling it over.

As the elevator reached the second floor, he hit the button to go back to the ground floor, before I quickly hopped off as the doors began to shut.

"No need for all of us to walk all the way up here, I’ll look around in the meantime," I remarked, as Aurora gave me a knowing look of exasperation.

Yeah, she’s right, I’m just being lazy. But hey, I see no reason to climb the stairs if I don’t have to. Now, then...let’s see if there’s anything that stands out.

I’ll refrain from going into the room just yet, don’t want to mess anything up, after all. Instead, maybe there’s something in the corridor that might be a useful clue.

Like, I don’t know, a strand of hair or something...something that could probably help Aurora and Fenris sniff them out. Let’s see, I’m looking for hair that’s been dyed an unnatural black...yeah, not sure what that means.

I mean, black is black...hm, maybe looking it up might help. Let’s see, what should I type...uh, ’black hair dye...unnatural color’. Oh, and let’s add...’Egyptian brand’. I doubt I can find anything useful so easily, but it’s at least worth a-...hm? Well, now...I think I might have hit the jackpot.

"Hey, I thought you said you were gonna look around, you lazy ass," Came Aurora’s voice, as she, Fenris and Leonardo appeared up the stairs.

"Forget that, I’ve got something...here, check it out," I replied, showing her my phone.

"Hm?" She responded, as she took my phone and stared at the screen.

"What is it?" Inquired Leonardo curiously, peering over her shoulder.

"Scoot over, I can’t see," Fenris interjected, giving Leonardo a narrowed side glance.

"Looks like reviews...’awful product, it has a peculiar smell even after several days, and the color is very glossy and unnatural’...’ugh, this is terrible, it looks like someone poured ink on my head, wish I could give zero stars’...the rest are all in Arabic, I can’t read them. I see, yeah you’re right, this is really useful.

If we buy this dye and get its scent, I could track down our targets," Remarked Aurora with a nod, before adding as my phone dinged with a notification, "Uh...’6Fapster9, your Pornhub subscription is about to expire, pay by the 5th of-...’."

"Hey, don’t read my emails!" I exclaimed indignantly, snatching my phone back.

"...you pay for your porn?" She responded with a raised eyebrow, stifling a smile.

"No...Harmony pays for my porn, not that it’s any of your business," I huffed, as I put my phone back in my pocket.

We then headed for the room where the incident had taken place, opening the door and entering. I flipped the light switch to illuminate the room, before looking around with a grimace.

There was blood all over the place...I think I see some teeth too. From what we were told, the victims were a young man and his little brother, both their bodies had been found completely torn apart.

"Are you getting anything?" Leonardo asked Aurora.

"The smell of blood is a bit overwhelming, but...I’m able to pick up some other scents too. The ones that are most notable are...burnt flesh...a sweet perfumey scent, and...a slight chemical scent," She frowned in response, her nose twitching.

"Oh, I only noticed the perfume, but now that you mention it...yeah, there’s a chemical smell too," Nodded Fenris, sniffing around as well.

"I was thinking that we could find some hairs or something, but the risk of picking up the wrong hairs could make things harder," I mused thoughtfully.

"Hm...the perfume and chemicals scents, I caught whiff of them in the elevator, and outside as well. I didn’t recognize them right away because the scents in here are entangled with a slight sweaty smell," She muttered, rubbing her nose.

"I think I get it...their excitement and glee while doing this must be the cause. People sweat when they’re excited. Not to mention that they must have spent a fair amount of time here, so it makes sense," Nodded Leonardo, after taking a moment to think it through.

"So, you guys think you can track them down?" I asked Aurora and Fenris.

"Yeah, I should be able to. The perfume and chemical smell are intertwined, so long as I can follow that, I’ll be able to lead us right to them," She nodded in response.

"Mhm, and it’s a pretty distinct combination of scents, should be easy to track," Replied Fenris with a thumbs up.

"Good, then there’s no time to waste. Let’s head out and see if we can find them and give them exactly what they deserve," Remarked Leonardo with a look of determination.

"So, we gonna kill them or what?" I inquired curiously.

"No, that’d be too merciful. We should torture them first," Replied Aurora with a dark look in her eyes.

"Yeah, it’s the least they deserve after everything they’ve done," Nodded Leonardo in agreement.
