Chapter 1017: Chapter 464: Why Are You Forcing Me to Say It’s Salty
In the morning, Lin Li rode his bike to school.
The campus that was about to hold the New Year’s Day fun fair looked very different from usual.
From far away you could see that outside the teaching building, most classes had hung eye-catching red banners on the outer side of the corridor walls, basically promoting and introducing their class’s fun-fair projects for today and inviting everyone to come play.
When you got close to the area between the first-year and second-year teaching buildings, you could also see that on the open space in the middle, a lot of people were busy preparing in full swing.
Just the little food trucks alone—there were four in sight—some people were even more badass, somehow dragging in a bare stove with two big pots; the smoke and steam made the place feel more fired up than a crematorium.
No need to worry about a fire though, since each of these food trucks or stoves had a fire extinguisher placed beside it.
The fire hydrant on the first floor also looked like it had been wiped down last night—gone was the dusty look of the past, now it was brand new and definitely ready to use at a touch; you could tell the school really broke its back over student safety.
And the open space wasn’t just about food; for example, one class was inflating a kiddie pool, with a hose pulled over next to it, probably trying to recreate some kind of street game.
The lively scene of all things bursting with life was right there in front of him.
No wonder Nansang Middle School separated the senior-year campus from the first and second years; seniors were already workhorses, and if they had to watch the first and second years’ events with their own eyes during a holiday, someone would probably decide to attack the concrete with their body.
The fun fair wouldn’t officially start until eight o’clock, so things weren’t finished yet. After a quick glance around, Lin Li headed toward Class Four.
"According to unofficial histories, a child’s corpse found in Cao Cao’s tomb, after being analyzed by experts, was identified as the young Cao Cao. This discovery not only revealed certain secrets from Cao Cao’s lifetime, but also provided valuable clues for understanding his growth experience."
Not staying in the classroom today, Bai Bufan was leaning over the corridor railing with a few boys, telling them "unofficial histories."
Which made sense, since the desks and chairs in the classroom had either been moved outside last night or piled up in a corner in a cramped stack. The space now was occupied by the games Class Four had agreed on, plus two machines.
Looked like Xue Jian wasn’t here yet.
After all, he was in charge of the ingredients and ice, and once he arrived, he’d probably ping the boys in the group chat to come down and help carry the stuff.
"Tsk tsk, what’s with all of your dark circles being this obvious—did none of you sleep last night?" freewebnøvel.com
Lin Li also leaned against the railing, and when he noticed Bai Bufan and the others looking a bit drained, he teased them with a laugh.
"Sigh, it’s all these idiots’ fault," Bai Bufan complained with a sigh, pointing at Zhou Baowei and Qin Zeyu and the others. "I’ve already gotten used to having my phone with me at school, but they haven’t."
"After a few months of adjustment, I finally had a stable bedtime routine after going back to the dorm, and they just had to ruin it."
"Stable bedtime routine, my ass," Lin Li snorted.
"I really did, I really got into the habit," Bai Bufan protested, sounding annoyed, and worried Lin Li wouldn’t believe him, so he started counting his schedule off on his fingers:
"Except for last night, lately I go back to the dorm at nine forty, finish washing up by ten, at ten twenty I put on the freshly washed, sun-dried sheets, at eleven I stop playing on my phone and fall asleep, at six in the morning I take a dump, six ten I get up, six twenty I wash up and finish..."
"Hold up." Lin Li frowned, sensing that something was off.
"What?"
"What time do you take a dump?"
"Six."
"What time do you get up?"
"Six ten."
Lin Li calmly asked, "Then where the hell are you taking that dump?"
Bai Bufan calmly shot back, "What do you think is the reason why every night when I go back to the dorm, I always put on the freshly washed, sun-dried sheets at exactly ten twenty?"
Lin Li: "(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧."
"Nice, even foreshadowing. Bai Bufan, it’s a damn shame you’re not writing novels," Lin Li said, giving him a thumbs-up in approval.
"Really? No one’s ever recognized me like this before.
Last time, on a whim, I wrote a Red Chamber fanfic and cranked out a few Chapters in a row: ’Granny Liu’s First Taste of Cloud and Rain,’ ’Granny Liu’s Second Taste of Cloud and Rain,’ ’Granny Liu Still Tasting Cloud and Rain,’ ’Granny Liu Keeps Going After Dinner with Cloud and Rain,’ ’Granny Liu Not Satisfied, Adds Another Round of Cloud and Rain,’ ’Wise One Mode: Granny Liu Sells Out Stalin,’ and I just got cursed out as a dumbass,"
Bai Bufan said, sounding a bit lacking in confidence and self-conscious.
"Isn’t that scolding perfectly normal? When you write fanfic you gotta write about the main characters. Granny Liu, strictly speaking, barely even shows up in Dream of the Red Chamber. At least switch her to Granny Jia, right? Like ’Granny Jia’s First Taste of Cloud and Rain’—you definitely wouldn’t get flamed for that."
Lin Li shook his head, enlightening him.
"So that’s how it is, I learned something," Bai Bufan said, suddenly enlightened.
"Don’t learn that, Old Jian just called for people in the group, let’s head down," Wang Ze said from the side, waving the phone in his hand.
"OK."
Teacher’s cars are the best, they can drive straight into the school. The group didn’t need to run all the way to the school gate; they just had to walk to the open space twenty or so meters from the first-floor stairwell to pick up the supplies, saving a lot of effort.
The "supplies" they picked up were actually just the oden base, ice, and fruit.
Other stuff like sauces, disposable bowls, and disposable skewers—things that keep well—had already been brought to the classroom in advance.
Once the supplies were in place, everyone immediately started the final round of "prep work" before opening for business.
