Chapter 38: Chapter 25: Older Sister

Meeting the young woman’s icy gaze, Sean knew he was in trouble.

Mentioning another woman’s name in front of the one you’re with was a cardinal sin. The slightest misstep could make everything blow up in his face.

What made Sean even more flustered was that she was gorgeous. Her figure and features were in no way inferior to Saintess Olivia. In fact, the cold, noble air about her was even more likely to ignite a man’s desire to conquer. She was the kind of girl you’d never forget after just one look. And yet, his mind drew a complete blank.

The current situation told him that this was most likely a new "character card."

’And she probably has the "female lead" tag.’

Sean: "..."

’This is going to be the death of me.’

Fortunately, he was quick on his feet and a good storyteller. He rushed to salvage the situation. "You misunderstood. I wasn’t thinking about Olivia."

The young woman shot him a sideways glance. "Is that so?"

"Yes," Sean said, his face a picture of sincerity. "I was actually about to say that Olivia once sat on the bed just like this, but she wasn’t nearly as beautiful as you."

The young woman seemed to finally realize she was exposed. Her cheeks flushed slightly as she pulled the blanket up to cover her chest. With a soft huff, she said, "Such a smooth-talker."

Sean wasn’t sure if he’d passed the test. He was still racking his brain, trying to pinpoint the source of this familiar feeling. But before he could find an answer, the young woman’s next words gave him another headache.

"Come up here."

Sean: "..."

"Up where?"

"Where do you think?"

The young woman’s tone was nonchalant, but her blushing cheeks revealed that she was nowhere near as calm as she appeared.

Sean was even less composed. A blush on a cold and aloof person was all the more devastating. Especially since her back was bare, revealing a large expanse of smooth, snow-white skin that, just by looking, made one imagine its supple texture. What man could possibly withstand such a test?

Sean truly wanted to refuse, he really did. But he had to understand where the "plot" was going. After half a month, a new story about his past life had finally surfaced. He couldn’t just give up on it.

And so, with a heart dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge, Sean resolutely took off his shoes and got onto the bed!

As the young woman watched Sean draw near, sensing his masculine presence, her gaze wavered. She turned her head away, her face flushing several shades redder. She wanted to say something to ease her nervousness, but she had never been good at conversation and couldn’t think of a topic. The only sound in the quiet air was their two hearts beating rapidly. The atmosphere grew incredibly intimate.

It was a good thing Sean was skilled at conversation, otherwise things might have stalled right there.

He cleared his throat lightly and said, "Shall we... have a deep discussion about life?"

The young woman didn’t answer, but her cool, beautiful face grew even more flushed.

’Why is this guy in such a hurry?’ she thought, a little annoyed, assuming he was impatient and wanted to get straight to the point.

But who would have known that when Sean said he wanted to discuss life, he meant it literally.

He asked, "Tell me, if one day I died, but not completely, would I still be the same person I was before?"

The young woman: "..."

’What a strange question.’

She didn’t understand why Sean would ask such a thing at a time like this, but at least it was a topic of conversation. She thought for a moment before replying, "Yes."

Sean realized his phrasing might not be precise enough. He chose his words more carefully and asked again, "What if I truly died, was reincarnated, and then regained the memories of my past life?"

The young woman’s answer was the same: "Yes."

Sean: "Because the soul hasn’t changed?"

"No." The young woman shook her head. "Because you cannot die."

’Everyone is different, not just because of their soul and thoughts, but because their body and appearance are also unique.’

’Of course, that was the more objective, scientific understanding. From her own subjective perspective, or from the viewpoint of Mysticism, Sean was right. As long as his soul remained unchanged, he would still be the man she loved, no matter how many times he died or what form he took.’

’It was just that she felt the question was meaningless.’

’Sean couldn’t possibly die.’

’No one could kill him. Not even time itself.’

’He was the only Wizard in the world above Tier Ten. His control over Power had reached a level that was incomprehensible to ordinary people. One moment he could be standing perfectly fine in front of you, and the next his body could undergo a complete and perfect annihilation, without any Spell or channeling.’

’In other words, Sean’s body had undergone a qualitative change due to his Magic Power, becoming something infinitely close to pure Energy.’

’And Energy is omnipresent; it doesn’t simply vanish. This meant Sean was also omnipresent. His life would not fade with time—or if it did, the effect was so minuscule as to be negligible.’

’He was Energy, and Energy could become him.’

’A typical Grand Mage had to sacrifice their own life to cast an Annihilation Forbidden Spell, but not Sean. He could use the Energy of the world to reconstitute his body anytime, anywhere. He was immortal, undying, and would not even age.’

’At least, neither she nor Olivia would ever live to see the day Sean grew old.’

"Wouldn’t even age..."

Sean mulled over those words and suddenly realized he had been overlooking something.

Something that seemed insignificant, but was actually very important.

Elvire had once called him an Awakened, but he hadn’t agreed. He felt it wasn’t a case of his perceptions awakening, but of his memories reawakening. Rather than being an Awakened, Sean thought it was far more likely he had been reincarnated. That was why he always referred to Carl Black as his "past life."

The problem was, his appearance hadn’t changed.

This was also why he was so certain that Carl Black was him.

In his previous dreams, Sean hadn’t been aware that he was dreaming, so naturally, he wouldn’t have thought to look in a mirror for confirmation. But over the course of so many dreams, there had been times he’d seen his own reflection. Sean remembered it clearly: the him in his dreams and the him of today looked completely identical, right down to their height and build.

Did that make any sense?

Reincarnation wasn’t the same as being reborn in your own past, and it definitely wasn’t transmigration. How could he have the exact same face and body across two separate lives? freeweɓnovel.cѳm

But if it wasn’t reincarnation, then what in the world was he?

Sean felt like his brain was short-circuiting.

Meanwhile, having chatted for a while, the young woman’s nervousness had eased considerably. ’Some things have to be done sooner or later,’ she thought, ’so I might as well be more direct. That’s more in line with my graceful style as the eldest daughter of the Blazing Angel Family.’ And so, with her body tensed and her expressionless face flushed red, she said, "Come on. I’m ready."

Sean: "But I’m not ready..."

It was the truth. Though he was a normal man and knew perfectly well he wouldn’t be able to resist, shouldn’t he at least find out her name first?

He just hadn’t found the right opportunity to ask.

The young woman seemed taken aback. "You’re not ready?"

Sean nodded solemnly. "That’s right."

"Then what’s that in your hand?"

"Hm?"

Sean didn’t remember holding anything. He glanced down instinctively, only to find an iron chain with a shackle in his hand. One end was already locked around the young woman’s fair, delicate ankle.

Sean: "???"

It hit him like a bolt of lightning.

’This isn’t a dream!’

’Or rather, this isn’t just a dream—it’s a session of Meditation!’

’He had to satisfy his body’s instinctual needs and desires in a non-primitive way—these shackles must have been conjured by the Demon Spirit Potion!’

’Fuck!’

Seeing Sean’s flustered expression, as if he wanted to explain but couldn’t find the words, the young woman assumed his true nature had been exposed and he was feeling bashful. This, in turn, made her bolder. In a couple’s dynamic, when one is weak, the other becomes strong. She spoke calmly, "You don’t have to be embarrassed. I suspected long ago that you weren’t one to play by the rules."

"You can do whatever you want tonight. I’ll go along with it. Just don’t keep us up too late."

"Tomorrow is my little sister’s coming-of-age ceremony for her fourteenth birthday, and I don’t want to miss it."

"Your sister?"

’She has a sister, too?’

The young woman hummed softly in affirmation. "You’ve met her. Elvire."

Sean: "?"

El-who-vire??
