Chapter 20: Chapter 12: Encirclement and Suppression

"So many crows..."

"What a magnificent sight."

People who had lived in the city for a long time rarely saw a flock of crows like this. Gazing at the birds, gathered in a swarm like a migrating flock, Konina couldn’t help but marvel. freewebnøvel.com

The woods seemed to glow, veiled in specks of firefly-like light amidst the fading darkness. From a distance, it looked both mysterious and dreamlike.

"What are we waiting for? Let’s go!"

After witnessing Sean’s unbelievable Magic, Johnson’s enthusiasm for the forest reached its peak. He impatiently grabbed Jenny’s hand and ran toward it.

"Hey, wait! Be careful!" Genduo shouted.

Johnson didn’t even look back. "It’s fine! The intel says the forest is safe."

’That was indeed what the intel said, but it also said the Young Eagle Birds in this area only inhabited Wild Bird Forest and that you could get past by taking a detour. So what happened?’

’The text is static, but the forest is alive. There’s no such thing as a one-hundred-percent accurate expedition report.’

’If not for Sean, they would have likely been besieged by the flock of Young Eagle Birds, with slim chances of survival.’

But for that very reason, Genduo didn’t know how to convince Johnson not to be so impulsive.

’Sean had personally proven to them that Wizards really existed in this world.’

’In other words, the rumor about a spring in the forest that could awaken one’s Magic Power was probably true, too.’

Genduo’s expression was complicated. He wasn’t an idiot; how could he believe that manipulating flames to kill the Young Eagle Birds was merely Magic? It was just that this event exceeded his current understanding, and he was having a hard time accepting it.

The worldview Wilson had built over the past several decades was also shaken. But his reaction was different from Genduo’s; beyond the shock was a gradually kindling fanaticism.

When an ordinary person accidentally comes into contact with the mysterious and the supernatural, and the opportunity is right in front of them, how could they possibly overcome the intense curiosity and desire in their heart and just ignore it?

It’s impossible.

At least, *he* couldn’t. frёewebηovel.cѳm

"I told you, you might die," Sean reminded them again.

If no one had taken his words to heart before, now they had to re-evaluate the warning his words contained. Sean wasn’t just trying to scare them; meddling with the mysterious could really get you killed. Perhaps he himself had come by his abilities the same way.

But—

"A person could die at any moment."

This time, it was Jim who answered him.

Jim hadn’t lost his senses, swept up by either Sean’s "Magic" or Johnson’s fervent mood. Quite the opposite, this was a choice he’d made after careful consideration. He was a former mercenary, after all, and though he had a new profession now, he still loved adventure.

And people who love adventure never stop because of danger.

In this respect, he and Wilson were the same.

That’s why they had joined the adventure club, and why they had come to the Black Fruit Rainforest.

"You guys take your time thinking. I’m going on ahead, heh."

Jim smiled and gave the others a nod, then shouldered his hunting rifle and headed for the forest.

Wilson, his mind still on the beautiful and fiery Konina, didn’t forget to turn to her with a serious expression before he left. "Wait for me to come back as a Wizard, and next time I’ll take you on an even more thrilling adventure!"

Then he turned suavely and followed in Jim’s footsteps.

With the two of them gone, the team of seven was down to just three.

Konina was hesitant. Her right eyelid was twitching fiercely.

’A woman’s curiosity is stronger than a man’s. She also really wanted to see if the world was truly so magical, but her intuition was telling her that Sean was right. Beneath that forest’s dreamlike exterior hid a fatal danger, and if she went, she might never come out again.’

Sean made the decision for her.

It was because Konina had been pretty good to him ever since they’d met.

He was silent for a moment, then suddenly spoke. "Did you bring any rope?"

Konina was confused, but she nodded. "I did. Why?"

"Want to play with some bondage?" Sean asked.

Konina: "?"

Genduo: "Are you asking me?"

Sean: "?"

Konina: "Yes!"

Ignoring Genduo, she answered without a trace of hesitation, her almond-shaped eyes lighting up.

’This guy... has he finally come around?’

After agreeing, Konina furrowed her brow slightly. "Wait, you’re not planning on having one last fling before you die, are you?"

Sean: "..."

"If you say so."

Konina didn’t understand. "You clearly know it’s dangerous, so why are you still going? Can’t you just not go?"

"I can’t," Sean said, shaking his head.

’The one being targeted has no choice. And he’d never been one to just sit and wait for death.’

Sean started pitching a tent right where they were.

Genduo scratched his head, looking a little awkward. "Should I... give you two some privacy?"

"No need," Sean said. "Just stand guard outside."

Genduo: "Huh?"

’Is he asking me to eavesdrop??’

Konina’s cheeks flushed slightly as she gave Sean a coquettish eye-roll. "You naughty boy. I never thought that someone who looks so serious could be so kinky. Are all you novelists like this?"

Sean said, his face expressionless, "You can refuse."

"No," Konina said with a bashful expression. "Actually, I like it this way too."

Sean: "..."

The tent was pitched quickly.

"Are you tying me up, or am I tying you up? I’m good with either." Konina’s gaze smoldered, so intense it was as if she were spinning silk threads around Sean. She took off her jacket, and the strap of her camisole slipped down, revealing her smooth, pale shoulders.

"I’ll tie you," Sean said.

"Okay~" Konina winked seductively. "Don’t go easy on me, Mr. Sean."

Sean: "Don’t worry. I never hold back."

Konina thought he was joking. But when Sean actually started, she realized he was dead serious. He had no intention of being gentle with a lady, trussing her up like a suckling pig. The two-finger-thick hemp rope was wrapped brutally around her body, seeming to sink into her skin. Her long, fair legs were bound so tightly that her flesh bulged around the ropes.
