Chapter 540: Good Night, Hubby
In the end, the only thing Edmund could do was gently kiss her lips, silently trying to tell her that no matter what happened, he would continue loving her until the very end.
"I love you, my wife," he whispered softly. He kissed her lips again and again before moving to her cheeks, leaving behind several gentle kisses filled with affection. "Always."
Primrose slowly adjusted her position, moving a little closer so Edmund could hold and kiss her more comfortably. One of Edmund’s hands rested warmly on her waist while the other gently supported her back, carefully pulling her against him.
"Do you feel tired?" Edmund asked softly after pulling away slightly.
Primrose looked up at him with soft, dreamy eyes that still looked slightly red from crying earlier.
"You only need to kiss me," she whispered honestly, "and I’ll feel better again."
Edmund let out a soft chuckle after hearing her honest answer. "Is that so?" he murmured teasingly.
Primrose nodded without even trying to hide it. "Yes," she admitted. "Your kisses make me feel warm."
Both of them knew why his kisses were so important, but Primrose just wanted to tease him.
Without another word, he leaned closer again and pressed another soft kiss against her forehead before moving down to her lips, unlike earlier, this kiss lasted longer, as if Edmund was trying to pour all of his feelings into it.
Primrose instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck while Edmund pulled her closer against his chest. The warmth from his body slowly spread through her, making the exhaustion she had been holding onto all day gradually melt away.
Edmund eventually pulled away slightly and gently brushed his thumb against her cheek. "Feeling better now?" he asked softly.
Primrose blinked slowly before nodding. "Much better..."
She knew they were about to do something intimate together, but strangely, it didn’t feel like it was driven by lust alone.
Instead, it felt softer than that. It was more fragile and more desperate.
It was as if both of them simply wanted to stay close enough to feel each other’s warmth, to hear each other breathe, and to reassure themselves that the other person was still here, still alive, and still beside them.
Primrose slowly cupped Edmund’s face while he continued kissing her gently. Their lips moved against each other lazily, filled with affection instead of urgency.
Honestly, it almost felt less like desire and more like comfort, like they were trying to heal each other little by little.
Even when Edmund slowly removed her clothes one by one, letting his hands wander across her skin until soft shivers ran through her body, the thing Primrose felt the most was not desire, it was love.
A deep, overwhelming kind of love that wrapped around her chest warmly.
"Ngh... there..." Primrose let out a soft moan as Edmund slowly moved against her from behind. "It feels good there..."
Both of them were lying close together on the bed, with Primrose’s back pressed tightly against Edmund’s chest while his arms stayed wrapped around her body.
The position made it easy for him to kiss her neck, hold her waist, and keep her as close as possible while they moved together slowly beneath the blankets.
Honestly, it didn’t feel wild or overly passionate. It felt gentle, maybe almost lazy, like neither of them was trying to chase pleasure alone.
Instead, it felt as if they simply wanted to stay connected like this for a little longer to feel each other’s warmth, hear each other’s breathing, and reassure themselves that the other person was feel safe.
Every soft kiss Edmund left on her shoulder felt filled with affection rather than hunger, and every time Primrose held onto his hand or leaned deeper into his embrace, it felt less like lust and more like trust, like two wounded hearts trying to comfort each other without needing too many words.
After slowly pouring out all of their love and emotions into each other, the two of them laid side by side on the bed together.
"I feel much better now," Primrose whispered softly.
She rested comfortably on Edmund’s arm before slowly moving even closer until their bare chests touched.
"Me too," Edmund replied gently.
His other hand moved slowly along her back, softly stroking her skin up and down while occasionally drawing lazy little circles there.
The touch was slow and comforting, almost enough to lull Primrose to sleep.
[Her skin is still so soft as always,] Edmund thought while gently caressing her back. [Is it even normal for someone’s skin to feel this soft?]
Primrose let out a small laugh after hearing his thoughts. "It’s normal," she said softly. "I just spend a lot of time doing bathing rituals."
Her rituals usually involved adding all kinds of herbs and flower oils into the bathwater before carefully scrubbing her skin with different products until it felt completely smooth.
"I can do it for you too later," she offered casually.
Edmund looked down at her with slight amusement in his eyes. "You want to give me a bathing ritual too?"
Primrose nodded proudly. "Mhm. Then your skin will become softer too."
Edmund let out a chuckle before gently pinching her waist. "I think my wife simply wants an excuse to play with me in the bath again."
Primrose immediately buried her face against his chest in embarrassment. "I’m not!"
After that, neither of them said anything else, and Primrose slowly started to feel sleepy as well.
While gently patting her back, Edmund whispered softly, "Good night, my wife."
With her eyes already half-closed, Primrose quietly replied, "Good night... hubby."
Edmund couldn’t help smiling faintly after hearing that nickname leave her lips. "Hubby?" he repeated softly, sounding slightly amused.
Primrose only made a humming sound in response, already too sleepy to properly react anymore.
Honestly, she looked adorable like this.
Her cheeks were still slightly pink, her hair was messy from lying in bed, and her body remained curled close against his as if she unconsciously wanted to stay wrapped in his warmth all night.
"I like that nickname," Edmund whispered.
