Chapter 88: Like mother like son

1Lu Anu watched him for a while her gaze curious. She didn’t know what had happened between the two of them last night.

All she knew was that when she came back with dinner, Yu Wen had locked himself in his room and he wasn’t answering her calls.

At first, she thought that he was sleeping. Yu Wen hadn’t really rested well for days. She thought that now that he knew where Li Jun was, he would have decided to take a rest.

But when she saw that something had happened at the casino on the opposite street, she knew he did some shit without telling her. She could tell he was already in a bad mood so she didn’t push him for answers. She did however wait for Li Jun to leave his room.

When the person she had watch Li Jun’s room informed her, she went to the restaurant to wait for him. She knew that Li Jun would respect her enough to acknowledge who he was and thats exactly what he did.

Seeing her looking at him, he arched his brow and asked, "Is there something on my face? I left my room in a hurry."

Lu Anu put on a serious expression and said, "You have an eye crust at the corner of your left eye."

Li Jun was so embarrassed. He rubbed the inner corner of his eye while apologising. But when he heard the sound of her laughter, Li Jun stopped.

"Hahaha, I am so sorry. I just couldn’t help myself. Look at your face, it’s too funny," she said while tilting her head back in laughter.

Li Jun, "..."

He was right. There was no way Lu Anu and Yu Wen were mother and son. They were so different. "Auntie, you are making fun of me," he said pouting.

This was exactly what his mother did to him. His mother would always play a prank on him and he would pout complaining. Thus when Lu Anu did it to him he gave her the same reaction.

Lu Anu chuckled and pinched his cheek saying, "So adorable."

Li Jun, "???"

The waiter brought their brunch. It was a bowl of nourishing egg drop soup with a number of sides. Li Jun thanked her for the meal and Lu Anu said, "Dig in."

Li Jun thought she would take a few bites and stop eating like most of the noble women who dined at the imperial palace. Even Xiu Ying would take a few bites for show and send the dinner plate away.

But Lu Anu was different. She ate all of her food including the sides. Nothing was spared. She even ate more than he did. The last person who ate like that was his mother. He once watched his mother devour an entire lamb shank in three bites. He thought his father would be displeased by her but he was wrong. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Li Mingze looked bewitched and he even offered her his share. If it weren’t that his mother swore never to have kids again, he was sure she would have got pregnant that night.

Lu Anu saw that he was staring so she asked, "What," before wiping her mouth.

"Are you sure, Yu Wen wasn’t swapped at birth? You are different," he said and Lu Anu laughed.

"Everyone says that. He behaves more like his father if you ask me," she said seeing an opening. "He is as stuck up as him and sometimes makes stupid decisions... especially when it comes to relationships."

Li Jun raised his head his spoon freezing mid-bite. His mind was racing at high speed. He was thinking did Lu Anu know what they did? How could Yu Wen tell his mother that they slept together? It didn’t make any sense?

Lu Anu knew what he was thinking but she didn’t embarrass him. She said, "He doesn’t deserve your forgiveness and believe me I am not expecting you to. I just wanted to let you know that his IQ is extremely high but his EQ is terrible. He doesn’t know how to deal with his emotions properly and he screws things up."

Li Jun, "..."

He was thinking, "Was she throwing her own son under the bus? Shouldn’t she be advocating for him?"

Lu Anu continued saying, "He is a fuck up but he comes from a good place especially when it comes to you."

Li Jun put down his spoon having finished his meal and said, "He told me he was sorry last night. I understand why he would take me as the villain given what happened that day."

She smiled slightly not wanting to dwell on negative memories. She was about to change the subject when Li Jun said, "I forgive him. Let him know the past is in the past. I just can’t see him anymore for his safety so he should stop looking for me."

Lu Anu wanted to tell him that he didn’t have to worry about that but she didn’t want to drive him away by being too eager. At least Li Jun had let their past go. His response also showed her that her son had a chance. All Yu Wen had to be was patient.

She thought this journey was going to be tough, more especially since the matter was one-sided. But looking at Li Jun, it seemed it wasn’t so one-sided after all. He did feel something for her son.

"Would you like some dessert?" She said leaning forward with a dazzling smile. "I heard that their tiramisu is to die for."

Li Jun who was a foodie in his own right said, "Yes please."

"How about we order four different desserts and share them," she suggested pushing her luck. If she had been dining with Yu Wen, he wouldn’t even be enthusiastic. He would be showing her an impatient face the entire time.

Unexpectedly, Li Jun agreed. He said, "We can get six. Their portion sizes are so small. The weather is lovely, we can walk it off after."

Lu Anu squeaked in excitement while rubbing her hands. "You pick three and I will pick three, okay?"

Li Jun nodded and the pair focused on the menu, studying it like they were reading something very important.

The waiter cleared their table and when he heard their back and forth, discussing which desserts were worth trying, he said, "You are so similar. Like mother like son." ƒreewebɳovel.com

Li Jun was about to correct him but Lu Anu said, "He is just like me, right? He is the best son in the world."

Li Jun, "!!!"
