Chapter 90: Do you still want to die?

The Last Meal.

Severin chose it because it seemed like the only decent option showing at the cinema. It was a thriller featuring a vampire, and it almost instantly caught his interest.

But as the movie played, Lynsandra could clearly see his growing displeasure.

I expected Cassian to throw a tantrum... but I didn’t expect Severin to do something like this just because I didn’t come home after going on a date with Eli.

The corners of her lips curled into a smile. She found his reactions far more entertaining than the movie itself.

Most importantly, just who had planted this idea in his head?

Severin was an old pureblood vampire whom Lynsandra had met by accident during one of her missions — back when she spent most of her time in the field. He wasn’t the type to leave the place he called home. From what she remembered, he had secluded himself there for decades.

No contact with anyone, barely surviving on an animal’s blood, and living in this tiny world he created for himself for the rest of his life.

Time had passed, yet he had simply allowed it to flow around him... remaining almost unchanged.

"It’s full of lies," he muttered under his breath, eyes fixed on the screen. "Vampires wouldn’t eat garlic. They wouldn’t even touch it... and that salt. How could they mistake something like this?"

He raised a brow and turned to her. "Should we leave?"

"Do you want to?" she asked.

He nodded. ƒreewebɳovel.com

"Haha." She chuckled and stood, taking his hand to lead him out. "Should we try something else?"

Severin glanced upward slightly, then nodded again.

They headed to the arcade and... attempted to try a few games. However, both of them were stiff as bamboo.

It wasn’t that Lynsandra wasn’t enjoying herself. She simply found more amusement in watching Severin navigate everything for the first time.

Of course, they received quite the scolding from the management after he accidentally broke a few machines.

Thankfully, they were allowed to leave once Lynsandra handed over her calling card — along with Virgo’s — and told them to contact him to settle the damages.

As they stepped outside, disappointment was evident on Severin’s face.

It wasn’t that he was overwhelmed or dazzled by how much the world had changed. He was aware of it — people now drove motor vehicles instead of riding horses, after all.

The devices constantly in people’s hands. The modern clothing. The relentless pace of daily life. The artificial lights that illuminated the night, turning the city into a mirror of the star-filled sky.

He knew of these things.

But he had never truly experienced them.

In other words, he didn’t really understand what dating meant in this era. He had read a few articles, which was how he’d gotten the idea of going to the movies.

"Severin, are you okay?" Lynsandra’s soft voice pulled him from his thoughts. "You seem a little... down."

He glanced at her and sighed. "I was wondering how a date is supposed to work."

"I don’t know." She shrugged lightly.

"But you’ve been on a few already."

"That’s true." She tilted her head. Though most of them barely qualified as dates — except with Elias. And perhaps a little of her time with Cassian.

"But Severin," she hummed, squeezing his hand, "you weren’t really being yourself."

She winked as he stopped walking to stare at her.

"I like you better when you’re just you," she added. "But I still had fun watching you try. Hehe."

His eyes softened at the sight of her playful expression. She used to be like this too... back when they first met.

"Then I’ll be myself," he murmured with a faint smile. "Come with me."

Hours later, on a quiet hillside just outside the city...

"This is more like it."

A warm smile spread across her face as she lay flat on the grass. The canopy of a nearby tree barely obstructed her view. From where she lay, the night sky stretched endlessly above her, stars shimmering in her eyes.

Beside her, Severin sat with one arm resting over his knee. Unlike Lynsandra, he was gazing at the city below, glowing magnificently in the distance.

"When did you find this place?" she asked after a long silence. "It’s beautiful. I’ve been all over the city and beyond, but I never knew there was somewhere like this."

A subtle curve touched his lips. "I went for a walk."

"Hah." She chuckled softly. "That’s quite a walk."

Silence settled between them once more as they took in the view.

This was their bond: quiet, peaceful, unburdened by expectation.

Lynsandra stared at the stars, her lips pressed together as her thoughts drifted. Meanwhile, Severin’s gaze slowly shifted toward her, as though committing the moment to memory.

"It reminds me of when we first met," she whispered.

He glanced at her.

"I was staring at the sky like this," she continued softly. "I thought I was going to die... yet I felt so peaceful. It was strange. I had been fighting desperately to survive, but at the same time, I felt calm thinking that maybe that was as far as I could go."

Her features softened at the memory — the night she met someone she never expected would become so precious.

His lips curved a little more, her words stirring memories he, too, cherished. He gave a small nod.

"I was surprised," he admitted quietly. "I never expected someone to drift that far across the ocean and end up in my territory. And when I tried to help you, you attacked me."

Like a wounded wolf.

A soft laugh escaped Lynsandra at the memory. She had been so weak then that Severin barely needed to try to subdue her. The next thing she remembered was waking up in his home.

Another silence fell between them before she turned her head to look at him.

"Severin?" she called gently, waiting until he met her gaze. "Do you still wish to die?"
