Chapter 43: Peace

"Hey, they already said no. A no means a no. Didn’t you learn that growing up?"

For a second, the entire club stilled. Even the DJ lowered the volume as the commotion reached him.

Everyone turned their heads toward the group around the table, then shifted their eyes to the bar counter where the voice had come from.

Lynsandra scratched her temple, her vein pulsing as her vision spun slightly. Still, she clearly saw the man holding the staff off the floor.

"Also, put the guy down." She waved weakly. "Go on. Just let him go and leave those poor ladies alone."

Gasps rippled through the crowd, many covering their mouths. Eyes widened as they stared at the drunken woman.

"Doesn’t she know who those guys are?" one onlooker whispered. "They’re part of the Third Scar."

"Ah, shit..." another hissed. "She’s too drunk to realize they’re one of the most violent gangs in the city. Even the police tread carefully around them."

"She’s dead," someone blurted out in fear. "We should leave before we get tangled up in this."

Some people immediately decided to leave before things turned ugly. Others stayed out of pure curiosity. If this were a fight between two gangs, they would’ve fled without hesitation. But here, the worst that could happen was that the men would take the drunken woman.

"Huh?" Lynsandra raised her brows, noticing the sudden silence. "Why did you guys stop partying?"

The person nearest to her desperately hushed her, a finger raised to his lips. "Just... shut up," he tried to say, but she didn’t catch it.

"Hah..."

The man holding the staff dropped him.

The male staff member hit the floor with a violent thud, the pain in his backside not enough to stop him from scrambling away in terror.

Meanwhile, the man walked toward Lynsandra. His hand slammed onto the bar counter, a crack forming along its edge as he leaned over her.

"Well, who do we have here?" he smirked, eyes glinting as he studied her face. He licked his lips. "Miss, you don’t look so bad. No—actually, you’re very pretty. Want to join us?"

Lynsandra furrowed her brows as she looked up at him. She blinked, oblivious to the mounting tension in the club.

"No." She frowned, then tilted her head toward the women. "Girls, just go~."

The three women didn’t move an inch. Even if they wanted to, their legs trembled so badly they couldn’t stand. All they could do was stare at Lynsandra, hearts pounding.

"Why aren’t they moving?" she mumbled. "Did I read the situation wrong?"

She chuckled as she turned back to the man and tapped his shoulder. "Sorry, sorry. I butted in because I thought you were harassing those three."

As her laughter echoed, the crowd gasped even louder.

Lynsandra simply laughed it off, lightly tapping the man’s shoulder before pulling her hand back and beaming.

"Sorry," she said again, trying to stand. "I should go. If you see Minnie, tell her I’ll call us a cab—"

Before she could rise, the man pressed a hand onto her shoulder and shoved her back down.

"Huh?" Lynsandra frowned and looked up at him. "What are you doing?"

"Miss, you can’t just leave after sticking your nose in our business," he mocked.

"I already said I was sorry for butting in."

"That’s not how things work here," he snickered.

"Are you saying I should go with you?" she asked. "But I don’t want to."

Her shoulders sagged as she sighed, looking away to hide her dejection. "I’m not drunk enough to see you as pretty."

The thought—meant only for herself—rang out clearly to everyone.

Not only did the crowd gasp, but jaws dropped as well. One shared thought crossed their minds as they studied her depressed look: freeweɓnøvel.com

She really meant it.

"Look." Lynsandra turned back to him and raised two fingers. Slowly, her lips stretched into an unnatural smile. "Peace."

The man’s face twitched, anger flashing in his eyes. "Hey, miss, are you making fun of me?"

"No." She brushed his hand off her shoulder, mumbling to herself. "I’m really drunk. I should go home before Virgo comes and gives me an earful."

As she muttered, she dragged herself away.

"Then Minnie will have to play nice... It’ll take some time for me to sneak out again..."

Everyone watched her go. Even the men stared after her as she continued mumbling like a buzzing bee, her words audible only to herself.

The man by the bar counter felt his face twist.

"That bitch..." he hissed. "She thinks she can spew all that and leave here unscathed?"

He glanced at his men. "Get her back."

One of them nodded.

Lynsandra swayed with every step when a hand suddenly grabbed her shoulder. She stopped, looked over it, and lifted her gaze to see one of the men already beside her.

"Didn’t I make myself clear—"

Before she could finish, he yanked her backward, sending her sliding across the floor toward the bar.

"Ah—" she winced, caught off guard as her body came to a stop at the man’s feet.

"Haha..." he laughed, stepping closer. He crouched beside her as another man handed him a bottle of vodka. "Miss, you’re really pretty. You should’ve just agreed when I invited you. It’s not like we’re going to hurt you—we just want to play." freeweɓnovel.cѳm

He watched her wince, assuming it was from pain.

In reality, she was trying not to gag. It felt like she had swallowed her own vomit, the burn clawing at her throat.

"Not drunk enough?" he snorted. "Then bottoms up. It’s on the house."

He grabbed her hair and tilted her head back, pouring the alcohol straight down her throat.

Meanwhile, in the harem...

"Lizzie!" Cassian burst out the front door the moment he saw Lynsandra’s car pull over. His excitement, however, was short-lived when Virgo stepped out instead.

"Eh?" His face scrunched up as he walked closer, lowering his head to check inside the car. "It’s just you?"

Virgo knitted his brows as he looked at Cassian. "Didn’t the luna come back yet?"

"Would I be out here if she had?" Cassian clicked his tongue. "Tsk. Where is she? Why does she have to work so late?"

"She probably already went home, and you just didn’t see her."

"What?" Cassian’s frown deepened as he crossed his arms. "I’ve been waiting out here forever. I would’ve known if she came back."

The lines on Virgo’s face deepened. As a realization struck him, he hissed, "I knew it—!"

"Huh—wait!" Cassian stepped back in surprise as Virgo jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off. "What’s wrong with him? Did Lizzie get in trouble?"
