Chapter 1776: Chapter 1776: Sports Car Robbery

In a daze, Wandering Spirit remembered scene after scene, like shots from a movie.

It had been a rainy night.

He was driving a sports car, a little too fast.

All of a sudden, a cat darted out.

He was so startled he slammed on the brakes.

In fact, that was very dangerous; on rainy or snowy days it’s easy to skid.

He really liked cats. He had nine at home, and they were all his little bosses.

There was no way he could hit it, so he chose to brake hard.

As soon as the car stopped, a crowd of people swarmed up and surrounded his sports car.

He saw himself in the scene, shouting angrily, "What are you doing!"

"Hand over the money!"

The man in the lead looked like the village chief, a bit old, leaning on a cane.

"Money? You’re waylaying people to rob them? Do you know what era this is? Aren’t you afraid of getting arrested and sentenced?"

"Chief, don’t waste words on him. Same as before—go up there and strip him naked, and take every valuable thing off him."

"Yeah! Strip him and take photos! Then he won’t dare rat us out!"

"People who drive sports cars are all big shots with reputations. They’d never let their scandals spread all over the place just for a bit of pocket change."

"Alright, go on then. Just go easy with your hands and feet, don’t kill him."

"What are you doing! Don’t you dare! You’re breaking the law!"

"You’re not allowed to take pictures!"

"Stop taking pictures!"

"Stop taking pictures..."

"No pictures? That works too. Then tell us your bank card password."

"3 5..."

The village chief patted his face. "What a good boy."

In the village chief’s hand were his ID card and his blood donor card.

"So young." The chief looked at the date of birth. "Tomorrow is your eighteenth birthday."

He felt like prey fixed in an eagle’s gaze, and shivered.

The chief sighed. "Once you’re an adult, there’s a lot more you can do."

The chief turned and walked a couple of steps. The group followed. Suddenly the chief stopped, and they all stopped with him.

"Chief, why’d you stop?"

"We made a good haul today. When we get back, we should slaughter a pig to celebrate properly!"

"I’m going to kill a chicken too!"

They laughed and joked, looking so simple and honest, just like ordinary farmers.

The chief lowered his eyes and gave the order: "Take him back."

At that, everyone was full of doubt.

"Take him back for what?"

"Chief, you got your eye on this kid? But you don’t have a granddaughter to marry off to him."

"We’ve never brought any of these people into the village before. Are we kidnapping him now, extorting his family? We don’t have experience with that!"

"What if we screw it up? Better to quit while we’re ahead. We’ve already gotten plenty off him."

"Yeah, Chief, let’s just go back."

The chief’s face went cold, and he didn’t say a word.

But everyone understood: there was no room for discussion.

"Fine! The chief led us to get rich; he’s our great benefactor. Whatever he tells me to do, I won’t complain. I’ll go tie him up right now!"

"I’m going too!"

"I’ll go help as well!"

He had just breathed a sigh of relief when he saw them leaving, but now, seeing them come back menacingly, he jumped in fright, scrambled to his feet, ignored how indecent he looked, and turned to run.

Unfortunately, they still caught him.

"What are you running for? Aren’t you afraid someone will see you stark naked like this?"

"Hahaha, look at this kid shaking with fear. What a coward!"

"A rich city kid can’t compare to the kids from our village when it comes to guts!"

"Let me go! You’ve already taken my money, you’ve taken your photos, and I promised I wouldn’t report you. What more do you want?"
