Chapter 5: Impeachment! (A/N: Obviously!)
[ Ding! The Martial Spirit Awakening Ceremony has concluded without any interruptions. ]
[ Your clan awakened one Grade Six Martial Spirit, two Grade Four Martial Spirits, thirteen Grade Three Martial Spirits, and the remainder Grade Two Martial Spirits. ]
[ Unluckily, someone awakened a Grade One Martial Spirit. ]
[ Reward for a successful awakening: ]
[ Qi refining pill x 1000 ]
[ Body Refinement Pill ×2000 ]
[ Young talents need to refine their bodies before they can withstand the greatness of the heavens! ]
Lin Xuan’s eyes twitched.
Before he could examine the reward further, Lin Zhaoyue suddenly spoke.
"Father."
"Hm?"
She hesitated briefly before asking, "Would it be possible to arrange one hundred Body Tempering Pills for me without the Supreme Elder finding out?"
The request immediately drew his attention away from the system.
"A hundred Body Tempering Pills?"
Lin Xuan turned toward her.
"Why? Are you afraid of the Supreme Elder?"
A smile appeared on his face.
"I’m stronger than him, you know. You can believe in me."
Lin Zhaoyue chuckled softly.
"Who in the Lin Family doesn’t know father is the strongest?"
This time, Lin Xuan could tell that she genuinely meant when she said father and hearing it made him unexpectedly happy.
"Then why hide it?" he asked.
Lin Zhaoyue rolled her eyes slightly.
"I’m worried he’ll pull something. He has always been eyeing your position after all."
Lin Xuan burst into laughter.
"Oh? And when do you think that started?"
Lin Zhaoyue pretended to think deeply before replying with a serious face, "Probably at birth."
For a moment, both of them stared at each other.
Then Lin Xuan started to laugh.
The little girl was surprisingly sharp-tongued when she wanted to be.
Unable to resist, he reached over and lightly pinched her nose.
"You’re becoming quite bold."
Lin Zhaoyue rubbed her nose in protest.
"You asked."
"I did."
Lin Xuan shook his head before continuing, "So, a hundred Body Tempering Pills?"
"Yes."
"That’s all?"
The young girl nodded and Lin Xuan smiled.
"Then take these."
He removed the spatial ring from his finger and handed it to her.
The reward he had just received from the system had already been stored inside.
Lin Zhaoyue accepted the ring curiously.
When her spiritual sense entered the storage space, she froze.
Lin Xuan watched with amusement.
The little genius who always seemed to know everything had finally been rendered speechless.
Inside the ring, mountains of pill bottles were stacked together.
Two thousand Body Refinement Pills.
Lin Zhaoyue’s mind went completely blank.
She slowly lifted her head and stared at her father.
For once, there wasn’t the slightest trace of maturity on her face.
She looked exactly like what she was.
A ten-year-old child who didn’t know what to do without being told what to do.
Lin Xuan couldn’t help but chuckle.
"Come."
He stood up and dusted off his robes.
"Let’s head back to our residence."
Seeing that she was still in a daze, he added,
"We don’t want anyone else discovering those pills and trying to snatch them away."
That finally snapped her out of her stupor.
Lin Zhaoyue immediately clutched the ring tightly and nodded.
"Mn."
Lin Xuan smiled.
Without giving her time to overthink things, he grabbed her arm and led her back toward his residence.
As the two figures disappeared into the distance, neither of them noticed the faint excitement hidden deep within the other’s heart.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere elsewhere was far from peaceful.
The awakening ceremony had already concluded, but the image of Lin Xuan abandoning the event midway remained fresh in everyone’s minds.
Most of the elders wore unpleasant expressions.
The Patriarch represented the face of the Lin Family.
His actions reflected upon the entire clan.
Yet today, in front of every member of the younger generation, Lin Xuan had publicly disregarded the ceremony and walked away.
No matter how one looked at it, the incident had damaged the dignity of the clan’s leadership.
At the head of the gathering sat the Supreme Elder, Lin Zhenghai.
His aged face was solemn as he surveyed the room.
"Everyone has witnessed today’s events."
The hall remained silent and Lin Zhenghai slowly continued.
"A Patriarch who abandons the awakening ceremony for personal reasons is unfit to lead the clan."
Several elders exchanged glances.
The meaning behind his words was obvious.
Lin Zhenghai did not bother hiding it.
"I propose that we begin discussions regarding impeachment."
The room immediately erupted into murmurs.
Even those dissatisfied with Lin Xuan’s actions were startled by the suggestion.
"Elder Zhenghai, isn’t this a little excessive?"
One elder frowned.
"The Patriarch merely left the ceremony early."
"Merely?" Lin Zhenghai sneered. "In front of the entire younger generation? In front of the clan’s future?"
Before anyone else could speak, another elder shook his head.
"Regardless of today’s incident, impeachment is not a matter to be discussed lightly."
He looked around the room before continuing. freewebnøvel.com
"Have you all forgotten what the Patriarch has done for this clan?"
The hall quieted slightly.
"The famine three years ago would have devastated the Lin Family if not for him."
Several elders nodded unconsciously.
"When our trade routes were being squeezed by the Huang Family and the Zhao Family, it was the Patriarch who expanded our businesses and secured new partners."
More nods followed.
"The clan treasury has more than tripled under his leadership and the younger generation enjoys better cultivation conditions than ever before."
The elder sighed.
"One poor decision does not erase a decade of achievements."
Lin Zhenghai’s expression darkened.
Before he could respond, another elder suddenly spoke.
"And what about his wife’s family?"
The room immediately fell silent and a trace of caution appeared on several faces.
Even Lin Zhenghai’s eyes narrowed slightly.
The elder continued.
"Whether we like it or not, the Patriarch’s wife came from that family."
"Have you forgotten?"
"If we move against him and news reaches them..."
He deliberately left the sentence unfinished.
Everyone understood.
For years, that name had been a taboo within the Lin Family.
Lin Xuan’s wife had disappeared shortly after giving birth to Lin Zhaoyue.
Ten years had passed without a single appearance.
Yet despite that, very few people dared to treat her as dead.
Lin Zhenghai immediately seized the opportunity to cut the discussion short.
"What about her family?"
His voice was filled with disdain.
"She disappeared after giving birth to that trash of a girl and hasn’t shown her face in ten years."
He looked around the room.
"Ten years. If she cared, she would have returned long ago."
His tone became increasingly confident.
"What makes you think she would appear now?"
The hall fell silent once more and the elders lowered their heads in thought.
The argument sounded reasonable.
After all, ten years was an awfully long time.
