Chapter 14: 14. Spoil your child rotten and she’ll come whoop your ass.
Three hours later, the council meeting finally came to an end.
The elders departed one after another until only Lin Xuan remained in the hall.
Seated in the Patriarch’s chair, he stared silently at the translucent screen hovering before him.
[Arrival of Disaster]
[Task: Prevent any member of the Lin Clan from consuming the Blood Pill.]
[Reward: Body Tempering Pills ×2,000]
[Failure: Any clan member who consumes the Blood Pill will die.]
Lin Xuan frowned.
The quest alone was enough to make him uneasy.
Over countless generations, the Lin Clan had produced hundreds of cultivators yet they all shared one thing in common.
None possessed the talent necessary to truly elevate the clan.
That was until he appeared.
A Grade Six Mortal Rank Martial Spirit and now Lin Zhaowen had awakened one as well.
For the first time in many years, the future of the Lin Clan seemed bright.
Yet the system had suddenly issued a quest called Arrival of Disaster.
The ominous name alone was enough to set off alarm bells in his mind.
More importantly, the punishment for failure was death.
Lin Xuan slowly tapped his fingers against the armrest.
"Blood Pill.. I’ll have to look into it."
————
Time passed swiftly in the world of cultivation, and in the blink of an eye, two months had gone by.
Lin Zhaoyue slowly opened her eyes.
A faint golden light flickered within her pupils before gradually fading away.
She carefully examined her cultivation and couldn’t help but pause.
"The peak of Qi Refinement..."
She lowered her head and looked at her hands.
At her current pace, breaking into the Golden Core Realm was no longer a distant dream.
A complicated expression appeared on her face.
"Even in my previous life, I’ve never seen anyone cultivate this quickly."
The speed was simply absurd.
If she hadn’t personally experienced it, she wouldn’t have believed such a thing was possible.
Her thoughts drifted toward a certain person.
"Is this why Master wanted to refine me..."
The confidence in her voice immediately faded.
For a moment, the room grew quiet.
Memories she had no desire to revisit surfaced once more.
After several deep breaths, Lin Zhaoyue shook her head and forced those thoughts aside.
"There’s no point dwelling on a future that will never happen in this life."
A smile gradually appeared on her face.
"I should tell Father the good news."
With that, she rose to her feet.
After taking only a few steps, however, her nose twitched.
A terrible smell lingered throughout the room.
Two months of cultivation without moving had left a thick layer of impurities covering her body.
Lin Zhaoyue immediately took a step back.
"On second thought..."
She pinched her nose.
"I should take a bath first."
————
Two hours later.
The doors were flung opened and Lin Zhaoyue emerged from the bathhouse feeling refreshed.
The impurities covering her body had long since been washed away, leaving her skin spotless. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Her dark hair hung loosely behind her back, still carrying traces of moisture.
Eager to find her father, she casually grabbed a robe and prepared to rush out.
Unfortunately, she only made it three steps before someone caught her by the arm.
"Nanny..."
Nanny Liu clicked her tongue.
"What kind of appearance is this?"
Before the girl could escape, the elderly woman pulled her back and began straightening her clothes.
Lin Zhaoyue could only stand there helplessly.
Nanny Liu had served the Lin Family long before she was born.
According to family stories, she had even taken care of Lin Xuan when he was a child.
As far as Lin Zhaoyue was concerned, she possessed an authority second only to her father.
"Young ladies should learn how to behave with grace."
The familiar words entered her ears once again.
Lin Zhaoyue almost recited the rest from memory.
After hearing the same lecture for years, she had practically become immune to it.
"Nanny, I’m fine."
She puffed out her chest confidently.
"You know me. I’m very mature."
Nanny Liu stared at her for a few seconds and then she laughed.
"Yes, yes. Our young lady is the most mature girl in the world."
The obvious teasing made Lin Zhaoyue pout.
A few moments later, Nanny Liu finally finished adjusting her clothes.
She took a step back and nodded with satisfaction.
"There. Much better."
Lin Zhaoyue immediately brightened.
"Can I go now?"
"Go."
Nanny Liu waved her away.
"Your father has been worried about you these past two months."
The moment those words reached her ears, Lin Zhaoyue’s eyes lit up.
Without another word, she turned and ran.
"Nanny, I’ll be back later!"
Nanny Liu watched the girl disappear around the corner before shaking her head with a smile.
"No matter what she says, she’s still just a child."
Meanwhile, Lin Zhaoyue was already racing toward the clan hall, eager to share the good news with her father.
—————
Inside the clan hall, Lin Xuan was currently sitting together with the clan’s talented younger generation.
Whether they came from the main family or one of the branch families, anyone who had reached the Seventh Layer of Body Tempering was made to attend.
The hall was filled with youthful faces.
Some sat nervously.
Others were unable to hide their excitement.
After all, opportunities to meet an elder from the Mystic Sky Sect did not come often.
Lin Xuan’s gaze swept across the group, pausing briefly on each disciple.
Most of their cultivation levels were within his expectations.
However, one particular disciple caused him to stop.
Lin Zhaofeng.
Two months ago, the boy had awakened a Grade Two Knife Martial Spirit.
His talent could only be considered average.
Yet somehow, after only two months, he had already reached the Ninth Layer of Body Tempering.
That cultivation speed was far beyond what a Grade Two Mortal Rank Martial Spirit should have been capable of.
The more Lin Xuan looked at him, the more puzzled he became.
Eventually, his gaze lingered a little too long and from across the hall, Lin Zhaofeng noticed.
The young man’s back immediately straightened.
Then, seeing the Patriarch continue staring at him, he awkwardly forced out a smile.
Lin Xuan blinked.
Only then did he realize what he had done.
The poor child probably thought he had committed some mistake.
A trace of embarrassment flashed across his face.
"Cough."
Lin Xuan cleared his throat.
"My apologies."
The sudden apology caught everyone off guard.
Even Lin Zhaofeng looked stunned.
Lin Xuan smiled.
"I was simply surprised by your cultivation progress."
The tension in the young man’s body immediately eased.
"Thank you, Patriarch."
Lin Xuan nodded but remained inwardly thoughtful.
A Grade Two Martial Spirit reaching the Ninth Layer of Body Tempering in two months...
No matter how he looked at it, something about that seemed unusual.
Still, everyone had their own opportunities.
Since Lin Zhaofeng appeared healthy and his foundation seemed stable, Lin Xuan decided not to pry any further.
