Chapter 93: Art of Dragon’s Breathing

"So many things happened in just three days of entering the academy," Vlad released a tiring sigh as he lay on his bed, his eyes fixed on the dark ceiling above. The dim moonlight filtering through the window painting his face pale. "From forming a Primordial Core to meeting a Primordial Dragon and an actual Vampire, I sure experienced a lot."

His hands slowly clenched into fists at his sides, his eyebrows furrowing. "Seraphina is only a few months older than me and she is already a Four Ring Mage, capable enough to defeat a Marshal Knight and rival a Cavalier Knight. This will not do!"

He rose from the bed, opened the window, the cold breeze splashing his face, fluttering his hair back. The night air carried the scent of dew and freshly cut grass, invigorating his senses. He jumped out of the room, landing on the ground of green grass with a thud.

"I need to train harder," he declared to himself before beginning the push ups. He was completely ignoring the fact that he had trained several hours in the gym before going out with Seraphina, not to mention he had fought several adults and a mage there. Yet here he was, pushing his body past its limits again, each descent and rise fueled by the fire of his ambition.

The thousand push ups were followed by a sprint, sit ups and core training by hanging inverted on the tree branch, and moving his face up and down, touching his straight knees with each motion. His muscles burned and trembled, but he welcomed the pain, embracing it as proof of his dedication.

Three hours had passed already as he completely immersed himself in the training. His damp hair stuck to his forehead and neck, sweat splattering on the ground from his naked torso as he swung a bundle of heavy branches tied together with the central one pulled lightly out, acting as the hilt, in a precise but heavy sword dance, honing his skills while thinking of different strategies to block the blur-like sword of Chloe while landing his own. She was the only one he had sparred with to the point that he could imagine her fighting before him without even her being there. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

It was only when his legs lost the strength to take even a single step and his hands refused to lift even a needle did he finally stop, or more accurately, was forcefully stopped by his body. He fell onto his back, his wet skin touching the grass below him, the cool blades a welcome relief against his overheated flesh. He was lying below the shade of the only tree in the open campus, the back wall of the dormitory buildings visible in the distance. His chest rose and fell heavily as he took deep gasps, barely keeping himself conscious. Contrast to his heaving body, his mind was rather calm as he felt satisfied from this day’s training.

While resting, he murmured inwardly, too exhausted to say the words out loud, ’Ren, show me the details of the urgent quest.’

Vlad’s eyes widened, the exhaustion leaving them as he read the screen. He quickly rubbed them, making sure he was not reading it incorrectly. The reward remained the same. He did not know what the art meant but since it had the name Dragon, it had to be something epic.

He slowly moved his finger to the screen, pressing the claim button.

Vlad’s focus instantly shifted from the screen as he saw a figure standing above him, through the translucent display. The man was tall and handsome with hair carrying the same crimson depth as Seraphina.

"L-lord Cendral?" Vlad gasped, pushing to a sitting position, ignoring the exhaustion in his body. His muscles screamed in protest, but the sudden appearance of the Pyro Tyrant demanded his full attention. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"Hm, so you still remember me," Lucas said in an even tone, his expressions unreadable.

"Greetings Lord Cendral!" Vlad was about to rise to his feet when Lucas gestured him to keep sitting.

"Your body has already suffered enough torture," he sighed, sitting beside him. The grass rustled softly as he settled against the tree trunk, his movements relaxed yet deliberate.

His words caused mild surprise to flicker on Vlad’s face. Since when was he actually watching him, he wondered. He held back his curiosity. There was something that needed more priority. He wanted to say those words for quite some time.

"Thank you, Lord Cendral," Vlad said with a bow, once Lucas settled beside him. "I was able to enroll in the academy because of your recommendation letter."

"That was nothing," Lucas shook his head. "I was just helping an old friend."

Vlad did not need to ask who he was referring to as an old friend. It truly made him think how different Lucas was from the typical nobles. He had no liability to meet Edren again or treat him as his equal. Yet he was addressing a commoner from the countryside as his old friend, a testament to the man’s character.

While Vlad looked at him with eyes carrying admiration, Lucas leaned back on the tree and whispered, his tone carrying genuine gratitude, "first, it was Edren who saved my life and now many years later, his son has saved my daughter’s life." He turned to Vlad, slightly bowed his head and murmured, "Thank you so much, Vlad."

"S-Sir, pl-please raise your head," Vlad blurted, shaking his hands, feeling extremely awkward. "I b-barely did anything. Sera had already defeated the kidnappers before I even arrived there."

Lucas immediately rose his head, his eyes narrowing at Vlad as he heard a peculiar word coming from Vlad’s mouth.

Vlad instantly realised the blunder he had made, his complexion turning pale.

"What did you just call my girl?" Lucas asked, raising an eyebrow.

’Dammit. He noticed,’ Vlad screamed inwardly, taking a big gulp.
