Chapter 175: The Butler And His Lady: A Reminder Of Obsession

The night of the opening ceremony, Grand Duke Ignis’s mansion was filled with the sound of music.

Music that was quite different from what was heard in other regions, yet still familiar enough to allow people to sway to it.

The ballroom was enormous and warm, with volcanic crystal chandeliers overhead, showering everything in amber and deep red hues.

Every faction was present in said ballroom, with the Grand Dukes at their respective tables, the Royal family at the head, and the Church’s Archbishop moving around with a warm smile on his face.

The headmistress, on the other hand, seemed to have befriended a maid who was endlessly bringing her, Isla, and Conan food. frёewebnoѵēl.com

Adrian, on the other hand, leaned on the balcony as he looked around the ballroom, silently taking note of all that was happening.

Renelle soon left their table and walked towards him, and his eyes were immediately pulled towards her the moment she stood up.

She had on a blue dress without shoulder straps; the dress had a layered skirt with ice flakes lined on it.

It was truly a beautiful dress, but Adrian would argue that his lady made anything she wore look beautiful.

Renelle came to a stop by his side before she also turned around and started scanning the ballroom.

"It truly doesn’t feel like a festival of celebration," she muttered, "it just feels like everyone is wearing a mask to hide their true thoughts."

"Well," she let out a chuckle as she looked towards the hosting Grand Duke’s table, "except them."

"That was my favorite trait in them," Adrian answered, "back when I believed this world was nothing but a manhwa."

"Hmm," Renelle nodded with a smile, "it’s surprising really, as much as I want to hate them for what they did in my previous life, it’s surprisingly hard to."

"Especially given how idiotically honest they are," she finished before turning to him, "though their actions make sense now, after all, they all seemed like puppets on strings."

"Except the Grand Duke of the East," Adrian added as he turned towards their table, "he’s still a puppet on strings."

Renelle’s gaze followed his, and they rested on the grand Duke who still had that subtly hidden blank look in his eyes.

Her eyes then moved to Cassian...or rather, Marion, who suddenly looked up at them before smiling and waving.

"Marion, huh?" She let out before looking back at Arrian, "It seems I’m not the only one obsessed with you anymore."

"Should I feel threatened, my dear butler?"

Adrian let out a chuckle before lifting his hand slightly, revealing the bracelet on it, "Should I show you the answer to that, my lady?"

Renelle looked at the bracelet for a while, immediately understanding what he meant, but instead of shaking her head, as Adrian expected,

She nodded.

Even Renelle didn’t realize that she had basically accepted an overload of her butler’s emotions until she did.

Adrian smiled, and without hesitation, he let the damn flow.

Fortunately for her, unlike the last time, his emotions didn’t feel like a freight train...just a normal train this time.

Which was worse, since her butler’s emotions had only grown, especially with the time he spent away from her.

But, unlike the first time, she could handle them a lot better, and the only sign of her being affected by his emotions was the blush on her face.

Adrian soon stopped overloading her with his emotions before looking at her with a smile, "Does that answer your question, my lady?"

Well, if that didn’t, he doubted anything would.

After all, she had seen exactly the extent of his obsession with her, and it felt all-consuming, even more so now than previously.

"Unfair," Renelle muttered after she caught her breath.

"What is my Lady?" Adrian asked, as he continued looking at her.

"It’s unfair that you can get me this flustered easily and yet, to do the same, I’ll have to tease you in ways that I definitely can’t show in public," she had an expression of someone who was wronged, and her butler only saw it as cute.

"Then why not try overloading me with your emotions?" her butler suggested with a small smile on his face, "you never know how well it’ll work if you never try."

Renelle looked at him for a while, greatly doubting it would work; after all, compared to his, her emotions felt like a drop in an ocean.

Even as obsessed as she had gotten over him, hers still felt lacking.

Still, she tried it anyway, pouring all she felt for him within the bracelet and, in turn, directly into his mind.

And just as she expected, there wasn’t a single change in his expression.

Or at least that’s what it seemed like at first, but the next second, blood started dripping from his nose.

"Adrian!" She let out in worry, immediately withdrawing the handkerchief from his hand and placing it on his nose.

"I’m fine, my lady," Adrian responded as he let her clean the blood on his nose, I was just a bit overwhelmed by your emotions."

And he wasn’t lying.

He had known that she was also now, very much, obsessed with him, and he had felt it, but now,

Just as with his, it seems her obsession with him had grown, and he couldn’t help but feel bliss.

Unfortunately for the two, their moment was interrupted by a certain voice, "Am I interrupting something?"

They turned towards the voice and realized it was Cedric who was approaching with a smile on his face.

"Yes," Renelle simply said as her expression went blank again.

"You wonder me, little sister," Cedric muttered as he continued approaching anyway, "I could’ve sworn you were smiling a moment ago."

"..."

She silently watched him stop beside them before looking towards Adrian and chuckling,

"You’re quite the bold butler we trained," he paused before adding, "though Sebastian was a bit disappointed to find out your true feelings for your master."

"I believe that doesn’t change the fact that I’m still devoted to her, no?" Adrian responded.

"No," Cedric shook his head, "I guess it doesn’t."

The three fell silent for a moment before Renelle’s older brother broke the silence once more, turning toward the ballroom behind him.

"Have you and my sister had a dance yet?"
