Chapter 155: Vs The Third Year

"I assume you have something to say, Cassian," Adrian muttered as he looked at the third year before him.

Cassian’s expression was completely blank as he looked towards the Butler.

Now that was a time as good as any to handle this pest. He would take care of the excuse later.

But right now, he would ensure only one of them left this dungeon alive and returned to Lady Renelle’s side, and it sure as hell wasn’t going to be the damn butler.

And from what Cassian could sense from the butler, he was now a lot weaker than he had been when he returned from the dark sea.

He was right.

The price for coming back to life was his mana. Although previously at B-rank thanks to his breakthrough, Adrian could now barely be considered C-rank.

The boundless ocean of mana he had felt earlier was gone completely, leaving behind only an almost painfully empty feeling.

Even the Oroborus’ mark on his chest felt dormant, meaning that if he died now, he’d truly die.

Still, Adrian’s expression didn’t change in the slightest as he looked at Cassian.

"So?" he asked calmly, "what exactly are you waiting for?"

"You know," Cassian started without a change in his expression, "I truly tried to tolerate your existence."

Adrian muttered, "How generous."

Cassian ignored the sarcasm and continued, "At first, I thought you were simply arrogant, a servant who didn’t know his boundaries."

"Then I realized that you were dangerous."

"And now?" Adrian asked.

A violent current of wind exploded around Cassian.

BOOOOM!!!

"Now I think you’re a pest that needs to be removed."

Adrian looked at the third year that was still floating thanks to his wind spirit. From the mana he sensed, the third year was an A-Rank. freёwebnovel.com

A rank that was a bit beyond him right now.....or at least that’s what he would’ve thought if he truly was back to his C-rank.

But now, although his mana was back to C-Rank, Adrian’s body wasn’t and neither were his abilities.

A blast of wind was launched towards him causing a massive crater to be formed where he stood.

Fortunately, the attack only managed to hit a clone as Adrian switched places with it, reappearing a few meters away, completely unbothered.

Cassian’s eyes tracked him immediately.

"Dodging like a rat won’t help you forever," Cassian said, another violent current building around him, "the gap between us is still too large."

He wasn’t wrong.

Mana-wise, the difference was significant.

An A-rank against a C-rank was not a fight by conventional standards, it was mostly a bully.

Cassian had conserved his mana through the entire dungeon specifically for this, he was at full capacity, his movements were completely unburdened by any of the exhaustion the rest of the group was carrying.

He had planned this well.

Adrian had to give him that.

The bastard had barely helped in the corrupted beast siege, but the group didn’t get the chance to notice since Darius was handling the large majority of them.

His thoughts were interrupted when Cassian made another move.

The ground where he had been floating shattered from the sheer pressure of the wind propelling him forward.

Adrian’s instincts screamed at him to dodge, and he immediately complied.

He twisted his body sideways just as a compressed blade of wind passed beside his face, missing him by mere inches.

SHIIING!

The attack continued far into the distance before slicing straight through three massive dead sea beasts behind him.

Adrian’s eyes narrowed slightly as he muttered, "That was dangerous."

That would’ve taken his head off cleanly, but that wasn’t the end of Cassian’s attacks.

The surrounding air was violently compressed again before dozens of invisible wind blades descended toward Adrian from every direction.

Two clones appeared beside him and one immediately launched the other into the air, past the wind blades.

Though it sustained multiple cuts, it still had a semblance of a humanoid form as it appeared directly above Cassian.

BOOM!

The remaining wind blades landed where Adrian and the other clone were, but he had already switched places with the one mid-air.

There was a shadow spear in his hand which he hurled towards the third year, but before it reached him, Cassian let a blast of wind from his palm.

The attack slammed into Adrian, launching him backwards, but he teleported to the ground rather than slam into it.

«That wasn’t very smart,» Noctis commented as Adrian balanced himself and looked back at the third year.

It didn’t feel like he was fighting a stronger opponent as much as he felt like he was fighting an annoying one.

Cassian continued hovering off the ground, so the shadows currently on the ground couldn’t keep him in place.

And thanks to his wind, he had been managing to keep Adrian at a distance from him.

Without responding to Noctis’ words, he let out a sigh and said, "I guess I’ll have to bring it out."

With that, his shadow suddenly extended, and out came what seemed to have a humanoid form.

Cassian froze as he immediately recognized who that was.

Marion.

The request the shadow had made after his fight with Marion was to possess his body and Adrian had allowed it.

Cassian, on the other hand, frowned as he looked at who he assumed was still Marion standing beside Adrian, against him.

"Stay out of this," he said with a dark expression, "the issue between the butler and me does not inv—"

He didn’t get to finish his words when he suddenly felt something pull him and the next second,

BOOM!

Adrian looked at the clone for a while before saying," Well, that was useful."

Cassian, still confused about how he had just been slammed into the ground, attempted to stand up again, but he felt the same force pull at him again.

BOOM!

Renelle stood outside the dungeon surrounded by both trees and people but she was paying no mind to anything around her.

Instead, she focused on the rift that was open mid-air, waiting for her butler to step out.

She decided to trust in him and wait for a while longer, but if he was any later than a minute, she’d go back in there for him.

After a few seconds of waiting, the rift started glowing, and a second after, the outline of someone walking out could be seen.

Renelle continued staring until the person finally stepped out, and without her command, her body moved on its own.

Adrian was immediately enveloped in a tight hug the moment he stepped out of the dungeon, surprising him quite a bit.

But he visibly relaxed when he noticed that it was his Renelle, so he gently muttered, "I’m back my lady."

Meanwhile, inside the dungeon and among the corpses of the corrupted sea creatures, lay Cassian’s corpse.

He had put up a fight, but ultimately lost, so he resorted to threats, ones he thought would deter the butler since, after all, he was the son of Grand Duke Everhart.

Unfortunately for him, Adrian was a jealous man that cared for nothing about that, and without hesitation, he was stabbed straight in the heart.

And now, he was dead.

A few seconds later, what seemed to be a small mouse could be seen rushing towards the corpse.

It climbed on top of it, stopping on its forehead. freēwebnovel.com

It stayed like that for a while before life visibly faded from its eyes, almost as if it were dead.

Which it, strangely, was.

More time passed, and although one truly couldn’t be certain, for just a few seconds, it seemed as if Cassian’s fingers,
