Chapter 2030: Chapter 2030: Falling Out (Part 1)

What she saw was the two of them looking so close.

Jiaojiao felt miserable!

She glared at Ruan Lei, whose face was full of confusion, and quickly chased after Yang Tao.

She stood in the corridor, glanced around, and saw Yang Tao’s figure enter the restroom, then followed her.

"Xiaotiao?" She stood outside the row of restroom doors calling.

Yang Tao didn’t respond at first, until Jiaojiao called several times, she finally replied in a low voice, "Jiaojiao, I want some quiet, could you leave for a bit?"

Yang Tao’s voice seemed off.

Jiaojiao felt somewhat worried, replied okay, but remained standing outside without moving.

Yang Tao inside the restroom might have thought Jiaojiao had left; after a rustling noise, there was the sound of a lighter being lit.

Jiaojiao stared in surprise at the white smoke coming up from above her restroom stall.

"Xiaotiao, when did you learn to smoke?"

Among their group, even the boys, like Lu Zishu, who loved having fun, didn’t touch cigarettes, just drank a bit, and Duan Xi and Ruan Lei were even less likely to do so.

Yang Tao in the restroom hadn’t expected Jiaojiao hadn’t left, sighed helplessly, and pushed open the restroom door.

Jiaojiao walked over, saw her squatting on the steps, holding the cigarette with one hand, blowing smoke rings, her eyelids lifted, eyes half-squinting, and she felt somehow unfamiliar. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

Yang Tao and Ruan Lei were in the same school, and whenever she saw Ruan Lei, she’d almost certainly see Yang Tao, so over two years of college, the two hadn’t grown distant.

At least she herself had always thought they hadn’t grown distant; she thought Yang Tao in her eyes was still the same Yang Tao who had just graduated from high school.

But now, watching Yang Tao expertly holding the cigarette, puffing smoke, Jiaojiao realized that with the passage of time, the Yang Tao before her was long not the lively and energetic Yang Tao from the past. Jiaojiao couldn’t quite articulate a specific adjective, it was just a feeling.

Jiaojiao felt a dull ache in her heart.

She squatted down beside her, stayed silent for several seconds, then finally changed the persuasion she was about to voice into a question: "Xiaotiao, why don’t I join you for a smoke?"

Yang Tao flicked off the cigarette ash, looked up at her following the words, smiled somewhat flippantly: "Better not, if your brother Xi knew, he’d skin me alive."

Jiaojiao watched her smile like that and felt genuinely heartbroken, tightly pressing her lips without speaking.

"It’s nothing, I just needed a smoke, a change of pace then I’ll go out; you should get out too, the smell here is strong, it’s nasty to let it cling to you." Yang Tao still seemed unconcerned, her other hand reached over to pinch her cheek.

Jiaojiao slapped her hand away, unable to muster a smile at all.

"Xiaotiao, if you’re feeling bad, can you tell me about it?" She said.

Yang Tao had already smoked half of the cigarette, she gazed at the cigarette burning quietly even without inhaling, her eyes dazed for a few seconds, then she looked up and said to Jiaojiao: "Jiaojiao, this time Ruan Lei and I are probably done for."

"Why?" Jiaojiao became anxious: "Didn’t you break up often before? But you always got back together quickly, is it because of earlier..."

"No." Seeing Jiaojiao so agitated, Yang Tao seemed calmer, as if she had made up her mind long ago, now unwavering: "I can’t get over this hurdle in my heart."

To Ruan Lei, acting was just acting, not distinguishing between emotional roles and others.
