Chapter 60: Blushing

There was a lot of chatter amongst the princesses by the next morning. Everyone was keen to know what Myra got as a reward. As it turned out, the reward was dinner under the stars with King Alastair himself.

Myra was invited to dine with him in the Royal Gardens. Needless to say, she had an unforgettable night with the King himself, earning her the jealousy of all the other princesses.

"What was he like?"

"Was he as dreamy as he looked? Or cold and distant like the rumors said?"

Myra dispelled all of their rumors. True to Sierra’s words to her, Alastair was his usual self. Suave and collected. He was approachable and friendly. As soon as he saw how nervous Myra was, he quickly told her a joke to lighten the mood.

That resulted in her first embarrassment of the night, where she choked on the glass of wine she had been drinking. Everyone chuckled as Myra recounted the tale. Her cheeks were bright red as she told it, but it was clear to all of them that she remembered it fondly.

That helped to break the ice between the princess and King. Sierra joined the conversation a little late, but she still got to hear about what Myra and the King talked about.

She was surprised he did not take the opportunity to invite Myra to dine in the King’s Quarters instead. Based on what she recalled, the compound was vast and filled with many interesting rooms. It was common for the King to receive distinguished guests in his personal quarters.

Security is tight too, so it would be safe for everyone.

"I heard the King does not allow most female guests in the King’s Quarters. That’s why he doesn’t even have any maids, only servants."

"Even his personal guard is solely composed of men! Is that what sparked the rumors? That the King isn’t interested in women?" Someone else added.

"I doubt that, if so, how would he have married the Queen? It doesn’t add up."

"I heard that it was simply a political marriage to cover up the rumors."

Sierra listened to the chatter as she glanced over at Myra. She could tell that her friend was getting overwhelmed with all the questions from the other princesses. Everyone wanted her attention, in hopes of getting any valuable information they could get on King Alastair.

She walked over to her and placed her hands on Myra’s shoulders as two princesses were asking her question after question. It was more than enough to make her head spin. freewebnøvel.com

"Myra, my friend, may I have a word?" Sierra asked with a smile.

When her friend glanced up to look at her, a little confused, she gave her a quick wink.

"Yes, of course," she quickly turned back to the princesses who were hogging her and apologized before leaving with Sierra.

They got out of the main hall of the Celestial Lodge and walked over to the garden for some fresh air. As soon as they were out, Myra heaved a sigh of relief as she stretched out her arms.

"Thank you so much, Sierra! You saved me from them," she thanked her friend as she placed her hand over her heart.

"You looked like you were in agony," Sierra mused, citing her motivation to save her, "I thought you could use a breather."

As the two princesses made their way around the garden, their conversation eventually led them back to the same topic. King Alistair. Myra spoke with great excitement about the conversations she had with him, along with the food that was served and the entertainment.

Sierra raised an eyebrow, "There was entertainment too? That must have been pretty amazing!"

"Right? I was surprised too! It really was a night that I would never forget," Myra could not stop smiling.

She was still giddy with butterflies fluttering in her stomach. Sierra was happy for her. But deep down, she could not ignore the gnawing feeling of jealousy that stirred at the base of her gut.

Shaking her head, Sierra pushed it out of her mind. She focused on teasing her friend instead.

"So, did he make any moves on you?" She asked with a cheeky grin.

Myra immediately blushed beet red as she averted her gaze. It was clear to anyone who saw her that something must have happened between her and the King.

"Well... I..." she flustered, unable to speak coherently.

Her response amused Sierra. She couldn’t help but chuckle.

"So was it a kiss?" Sierra whispered as she leaned in a little closer to hear her friend’s response.

"I... is that..."

"Oh come now, Myra. Don’t keep me in suspense! There was a kiss, wasn’t there?"

Myra bit her lip. She could not even meet Sierra in the eye as she nodded. Sierra’s heart was pumping with adrenaline as she hugged Myra tightly in her arms.

"Oh, I am so happy for you!" Sierra squealed with excitement for her.

Her outward expression of joy surprised her friend. Myra thought for certain Sierra would be angry and she could not help but voice out that concern.

"Angry?" Sierra looked at her all confused, "Why would I be angry about that? Maybe a little jealous sure, but-"

Myra’s eyes widened in shock. Her mouth was agape but the ends of her mouth were curved upwards. Sierra stopped herself from speaking as soon as she noticed the weird expression on the princess’ face.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked.

When she glanced over to look at Ida, her maid who had been trailing next to her all this time, she too had a similar expression on her face.

"What has gotten into all of you?"

Myra slowly lifted her finger, pointing at Sierra as she covered her mouth with her other hand, "You said you were jealous."

"No. I did not," Sierra scoffed in disbelief instantly.

How could that be true? What was there to be jealous about?

"I heard it too, Your Highness," Ida added.

"Now you can’t deny it!" Myra exclaimed with a wicked smile.
