Chapter 38: Come With Me
Sierra was getting fatigued from all the running. Her speed was beginning to slow and she could hear the voices getting closer. She had to find a place to hide.
First, she sped up her movements and lost the guards who were following behind her. There were a few select guards in her way as she entered a new walkway. Sierra wasted no time in taking care of them, knocking them out one after the other with swift precise movements.
Finally, she came up upon a walled-off space. Sierra took her chances with it. She did not know what laid beyond it, but wherever it was, it was better than getting caught. Making sure there was no one around, she scaled the wall.
Unknown to Sierra, there was a forcefield surrounding the wall she climbed over. While it would have prevented almost everyone from entering, Sierra was completely unaffected by it.
When she got to the top, she carefully tiptoed her way while looking for a secluded spot before leaping down. Her heart was palpitating in her chest as she leaned her back against the wall. On the other side, she could hear the guards moving through the walkway looking for her.
"My my, who do we have here?"
Sierra froze. Her eyes widened in shock and fear. She could hear the person behind her drawing a weapon, likely pointing it at her. She slowly turned around to face the music.
When she realized it was King Alistair, Sierra almost dropped her jaw. She gulped as her palms began to sweat, wondering if he could tell it was her underneath the mask.
On the other hand, Alistair was befuddled. He was taking a simple night stroll around his quarters when he sensed someone making their way through the shield he had put up. This had never happened before, as the shield would have repelled the people who were trying to get in.
Alistair was the only person who could permit specific people from entering and leaving the premises. When he saw the back view of the person who climbed into his quarters, he wondered who would be so bold to do so; and to succeed no less. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
The moment Sierra turned around, and the moonlight shone on the mask she wore, he knew it was her. He was stunned.
"How did you manage to get past the shield?" he asked as he lowered his sword and resheathed it.
Sierra wanted to run but there was nowhere to go. She was trapped. Alistair came up to her. His shadow loomed over her as her back was pressed against the wall. He placed his hand right next to her face as he leaned in closer. Sierra looked straight into his eyes and so did he.
"What are you doing here? Dressed like this?" he asked. She could feel the faint warmth of his breath on her skin.
Sierra gulped, looking for a clear indication that Alistair knew it was her. But she could not tell.
"I... I have to go," that was all she could think of to say. She tried to leave again but this time, Alistair grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back.
"You’re not going anywhere until I get an answer, Princess Sierra," he warned.
Now she had her answer. He saw through her mask. She did not have any other choices. She did not resist any longer as she turned back to face him. Before she could speak, the commotion from beyond the wall caught both of their attention.
Sierra tensed up immediately, not wanting to be caught. Alistair listened as best he could to what they were saying beyond the wall. From there, he understood what was going on.
"You’re coming with me," he said in a whisper as he released his grip on Sierra’s arm and took her hand into his instead as he turned and made his way back to the main building of his quarters.
The moment their hands touched, Sierra could not help but blush a little. The King’s hand was warm and as the wind blew past them as they walked, she could smell the scent emanating from his body and clothes.
Alistair brought her through a secret passageway. After activating a secret switch, a hallway appeared behind a mysterious entrance. It was pitch black with no lights in it. Alistair tugged on her hand and together they entered the hallway.
As soon as they did, the secret entrance behind them closed on its own. The last of the moonlight was quickly snuffed out by the closed entrance. It was pitch black in there, Sierra could not even see her hands in front of her.
But before she could comment about it, a soft glow of light lit up the hallway. It was close to the ground, in the form of mushrooms and toadstools that lined the base of the walls around them.
"What are these?" Sierra asked.
"Luminescent mushrooms, great for lighting up secret passageways," Alistair explained as they made their way down the hallway.
After a short walk and a right turn, they came up to a dead end with a carving on the wall. Sierra peered over Alistair’s shoulder as he touched the carving on the wall and pressed a hidden button.
Moments later, the wall moved to the side, revealing a room. Sierra did not recognize the room. During her last visit to the King’s Quarters, Alistair entertained her in the Drawing Room, where guests were usually received.
Though she had left in a rush the last time, she was still able to remember what it looked like with clarity.
"Where are we?" she asked as she looked around the room.
The room was huge and lavishly decorated. Alistair walked over to a side table where a bottle of whiskey and a few glasses were placed. He poured himself a drink.
"Look carefully, the clues are everywhere."
Sierra looked around, taking in everything as far as her eyes could see. The room had an attached bathroom which was equally lavishly decorated. She turned to take in a full view of the room. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
How could she have missed the large carved wooden bed frame in the middle of the room? She was in Alistair’s bedroom. She was in the King’s bedroom.
"This is your bedroom?" she could not help but gasp out loud.
