Chapter 131: It Must Be Done
When she tried to move her arm, she felt some pressure on it. Looking down to her side, she was shocked to see someone lying down on her arm. Sierra was instantly on alert.
She recognized the sleeping form anywhere, though she had never seen it before. She thought she was dreaming.
"Alistair?" She croaked out his name.
Her familiar voice immediately woke Alistair up. He thought he was dreaming too, as he looked up to see Sierra looking straight back at her.
"Sweetling?" He whispered sleepily.
"My love, you have to believe me..." Sierra winced as she shifted her body while still continuing to apologize, "I didn’t order them to kill you. I don’t even know who they are. You have to believe me, I..." frёewebηovel.cѳm
Alistair reached over and embraced Sierra in a tight warm hug. She was too stunned to speak. Sierra felt tears welling up in her eyes. For the first time in a long time, she wanted to cry.
She could feel her vision blurring from the tears. But still, she held it in as she rested her head on his shoulder, leaning close to his neck. His scent filled her nostrils, calming her senses.
She did not know what was going to happen next but at that moment, she felt a wave of calm wash over her.
"You don’t have to say anything else, sweetling," Alistair spoke to her in a soothing quiet whisper.
He cupped her face with both of his hands and brought her close so that their foreheads would touch. They closed their eyes as they relished in the moment they were sharing with each other.
"I trust you, Sierra. I trust you and I need you to know that." He whispered to her before kissing her on the lips.
She didn’t want to let him go at that moment. If she had a choice, she wished that moment would last for all of eternity. Deep down in their hearts, they knew each other were thinking of the exact same thing.
When Alistair pulled away from their kiss, Sierra held onto him for just a few moments longer.
"I can get you out of here, sweetling. They’ll never be able to find you," he whispered in a soft voice, almost pleading.
Sierra bit her lip. She shook her head.
"I can’t," each word felt like agony as she said it, "If we are to be together, I have to do this. I have to go to trial."
"But I won’t be able to protect you if you do. I..." Alistair didn’t want to state the obvious.
There was so much at stake. Should Sierra fail to prove herself to be innocent at the trial, he did not want to think about what would come next.
"We’ll just have to make sure I’ll win," she chuckled with a weak smile, "I did no wrong. All I have to do is to prove it to them."
She knew it was easier said than done, heck she even doubted herself if it could be accomplished. But Sierra knew one thing. She had to assure Alistair, giving him the confidence to have faith in turn gave the same to her. They fed off each other.
Alistair nodded, "I know you’ll be able to do it. I’ll do everything I can, Sierra. Everything and more."
For the rest of the day, Sierra recuperated. Alistair ordered food to be brought to his room. Sierra insisted that she could feed herself but Alistair refused to let her move. She was still recovering from her injury.
Sierra was pleasantly surprised to see how much her wound had healed. Having spent most of her younger years in the army, she was no stranger to stab wounds. She knew it was not possible for a wound like hers to heal that quickly.
Not unless there was ’outside help’. Alistair explained that they had indeed received help.
"You’ll get to meet her tomorrow. She’d requested to meet and speak of you when you wake. You can thank her yourself if you like," he fed her a spoonful of soup.
Sierra nodded obediently. She could not take her eyes off Alistair. Though her mind was still a little hazy, she vaguely remembered how she got to the King’s quarters. It did not take her long to realize that she’s had a change of clothes. freeweɓnovel.cøm
She was no longer wearing the clothes she’d had on during the ball. Her skin was clean and she felt fresh. It did not feel like she had been sick in bed for multiple days despite Alistair informing her that she was unconscious for three days.
"My clothes..." as soon as those words slipped out of her lips, Sierra blushed beet red thinking about the only possible solution to the conundrum.
Alistair could not help but chuckle when he saw her expression. She was shrinking into the bed in embarrassment.
"It’s not like I’ve not seen your naked form before, sweetling. Besides, I can’t have you stinking up my bed, now can I?" He teased her.
Sierra pouted while averting her gaze, "That’s what you were worried about? That I would soil your sheets?"
"Oh I’m not worried about that at all. But we wouldn’t want your wound to fester, how would we?" He leaned in close to her, their faces were less than an inch apart.
Sierra was forced to meet his gaze. They could hear each other’s breathing in such close proximity.
Before Sierra could protest, Alistair leaned in a little closer and whispered to her, "Although, I would much prefer for us to soil my sheets in a different way..."
His hot breath lingered on her skin as he pulled back. Sierra wanted to bury herself in the ground. She pulled the cover over her head to hide her embarrassment. Alistair thoroughly enjoyed it, he loved to tease her.
He loved watching to see how she would react. She always surprised him and this time was no different. Sierra pursed her lips. She knew she could not let him get away with what he said.
She had to get back at him.
But it was so embarrassing!
Would she be able to pull it off?
There was only one way to find out.
Sierra removed the cover over her head in one swift move. This caught Alistair completely off guard, leaving him no time to come up with a counterreaction as Sierra reached out her arms and wrapped them around his neck.
With a smirk on her face, she pulled herself up from the bed with his help. She nuzzled her burning red face on the side of his neck, kissing him gently. Now, it was the King’s turn to blush.
He could feel the warmth of her lips on his neck. He was too stunned to speak. His mind was blank.
"Does his Majesty... want to do so now?" She whispered seductively into his ear, just as he had done to her moments ago.
