Chapter 1943: Battle of Red and Blue (1)
"Get ready. I’ll call the shots."
Rex floated in the sky, standing above the main disk of starlight. The Law of Misdirection was active, dispersing his aura so that it would be harder for him to be detected. He watched the water dome swallow the northern Divine Source whole.
It rose from the earth like a second sky.
A perfect hemisphere of churning, liquid that blotted the outer world.
To anyone on the surface, this was the work of a God, as nobody could peer through the dome.
But to Rex, it was surely the work of the enemy forces.
A good sign.
He had laid out the bait, and now it had been taken; the enemy believed the Red Skull Elite Force was scattered across the central continent, bleeding to defend the greater factions of the realm so that chaos and mayhem would not reign.
That was the wrong assumption.
Rex wiped out the Demigods within the central continent exactly to make them think this.
Think that the Red Skull Elite Force was in the central continent and would not be able to stop them.
It was executed flawlessly because of High Lord Rashal—He was the one who gave the important intel that the enemy forces were aiming for the Divine Sources. Had it not been for that, things wouldn’t have endned up this well for them.
Now, Manvac and his elites—had walked right into the killing ground, even trapping themselves inside their own dome. The water dome was created in order to prevent the Red Skull Elite Force from reaching them while they were busy uprooting the Divine Source.
And though it looked like it was only a dome, in truth, it was a sphere.
Even digging underground would be useless; the only way in is breaking through the major law.
However, it also became the enemy forces’ prison.
It was also the same for the Southern Divine Source; another dome of water was erected there.
Seems like the enemy forces had split into two, attacking both the northern and southern Divine Source.
As for the Central Divine Source, it was peaceful with no sign of attack.
Rex’s calculating gaze swept across the dome’s surface.
Just from the energy that comprised this dome, and how condensed it was to the unbelievable point of almost becoming solid—he knew that there was no way he could break it. At least, nothing in his arsenal could overpower it through raw strength alone.
The Major Law of Life Water was impossibly strong.
It saturated every drop with immense law power and used the realm’s energy to enhance it further.
Rex wasn’t going to deny that this dome was a defensive power that he had never encountered before.
Far stronger than anything he had faced.
Only sufficient divine points or another major law could crack that shell, and he possessed neither.
But unfortunately for Manvac, he possessed something else.
Something that did not need to break the dome to see what was happening inside it.
Rex’s eyes flickered as he activated the System—scanning the situation beyond the water dome without much difficulty. He saw floating stat windows inside; each one depicting the power of the soldiers from the enemy forces.
Eight hundred and twelve stat windows to be exact.
He could see them spreading, sweeping the area in search of any small trap that might be present.
On top of that, he also scanned the Divine Source.
Since it contained immense divine strands that might overload his mind, he didn’t dare to really use the System to scan it properly. But he did ask the System to make a percentage bar so that he knew whether the enemy forces finally began uprooting it.
He saw the enemy forces circling the Divine Source, verifying its power, and identifying its limbs.
And then his eyes finally landed on Manvac.
Rex couldn’t see Manvac’s appearance, couldn’t even sense his power, but he could see the stat window of this enemy High Millinar and found it really close to Alexander. He was weaker than Alexander, but good enough to pose a real threat.
It was especially so with his Major Law of Life Water.
...
<Major Law of Life Water>
Description: Grants its bearer absolute dominion over any water or liquid medium—that is compatible with the hosting of life. This includes freshwater, seawater, blood, sap, nectar, and other magical fluids that can host life. It recognizes the substance of a water medium such as what has lived, what is living, and what may yet live. It also allowed the bearer to control the power contained within the liquid and give a powerful regenerative property to any water.
...
"Hmm... It’s stronger than I thought," Rex read the description with mild amusement.
He wanted to extract the Major Law of Life Water and feed it to his other Laws, hoping that they would be able to become a Major Law, but that’s going to be hard to do. Not only would he need to kill Manvac, but he also had to kill him gently. freewebnøvel.com
Something that’s entirely impossible for someone with his kind of power.
If he even could win against Manvac, then that win would be a messy one; it doesn’t matter if Alexander was there to help.
Rex’s main goals were to strike a lethal blow to the enemy forces and gather divine points.
Striking a lethal blow could be done through Alexander, while the latter is his own problem.
He looked directly down and saw a pleasing sight.
Both George and the emperor were moving their forces in harmony, sweeping the entire continent and even beyond with their great number. Each neighbouring faction was told to ignore the temptation from the enemy forces.
Most of the Demigods were killed by Rex, but there may be some who are still alive and hiding.
However, Rex told them to do this not because he only wanted to minimize the chaos.
He was also fishing for a neighbouring force to decline to listen to the emperor or George—and had the soldiers that were under Rex’s control through Divine Tainting skill to kill them. Through this new skill, Rex could harvest the divine points from those that bear the heresy mark.
But before doing that, he also learned that those under his control could gather divine points.
And that’s done by killing entities that have divine points.
Since the inhabitants of the entire realm have divine points because of the Divine Sources, it became a really good hunting ground for Rex to gather the ten thousand divine points that he needed to complete the sudden quest.
It was the reason why he told George and the emperor to send the message.
He was hoping many of them would rebel.
However, he underestimated the influence of the Grisian Empire.
Messengers raced—across the continent, spreading word of what was unfolding. Some of the smaller factions had already made contact with the enemy Demigods, and worse, they now carried divine-rank weapons with them.
Such power would only embolden them further.
To Rex’s surprise, there were fewer factions that refused to listen to the Grisian Empire.
And he didn’t like that.
"I want them to kill each other, and yet they were handing over the divine-rank weapon willingly," Rex watched the surface and clicked his tongue. He expected fire to spread across the entire continent—but all he got was an ember. "I need to do something; fortunately, I have help."
Lilliana.
’Yes? Both of us are done now.’
Since Davina and Lilliana weren’t strong enough to participate directly in battle—not because they were weak in strength by all means, but because they had insufficient divine points; Rex gave them this task to be the army’s eyes and ears.
Now that the central continent was secured and the enemy forces made their moves, they were idle.
Rex could use them now.
I need you two to sow chaos in the central continent.
’Chaos? How come?’
Make the smaller kingdoms go against the Grisian Empire. Give me a reason to slaughter the smaller kingdoms.
’How cruel of you...’ Lilliana chuckled on the other side. Rex was planning to save them from anarchy sowed by the enemy forces, but it seemed he had a change of mind. ’Okay—leave that to us. Focus on your task, and the central continent’s problem would be done before you know it.
Counting on you.
Rex’s eyes returned to Manvac again.
His eyes narrowed sharply.
Not because he wanted to kill Manvac. And most certainly not because he thought he could take Manvac alone without any help. But because he was patiently waiting. Waiting for Manvac to move further until he was directly above the path of earth where Alexander and the Red Skull Elite force lay in silence.
Covered perfectly in the smothering blanket of Baby-blue Periwinkles, patient as the grave.
Soon, Manvac moved.
At the same time, the System summoned a notification.
<Notice: the target, Manvac, is now standing right above High Millinar Alexander>
Rex’s lips curled into a devious smile that was thick with killing intent.
He pressed on his earpiece and gave the signal, "Manvac is directly above you, Alexander. Give hell."
Swiftly, the signal travelled through the earpiece.
Alexander caught the command almost instantly, and the corners of his lips curled upward as a surge of excitement rushed through him. This was the moment. He turned to the Red Skull Elite Force and hauled his partner, the massive obsidian dragon, upward—signaling it to unleash its signature attack.
"Red Skulls! Elite soldiers of High Lord Rashsal!" Alexander roared. "Attack!!"
Roar—!
A powerful rumble echoed from the throat of the dragon as its neck glowed with blue light.
Its eyes burned like two embers of blue flames as it opened its maw, charging a devastating amount of energy that could mimic a cataclysm for a realm like the Grey Realm. Other creatures also did the exact same thing, charging their own powers to cut open an opening to the surface.
Right above, the ground heaved.
Manvac felt it faster than the others, and then he understood.
A tremor that ran through the soles of his feet and up into the marrow of his bones; a vibration that did not belong to the water dome or the Divine Source or any natural shifting of the earth. His alert senses flared wide, reaching downward.
For the first time in years, something cold and sharp twisted in his chest.
Underneath, the ground was turning blue.
And at that instant, he opened his mouth and roared to the others, "They are right beneath us!!"
His scream went through the dome’s interior and reached every single soldier.
But it was already too late.
KABOOM—!
Out of nowhere, a column of fire erupted right as his voice echoed. It burst from the soil right underneath his feet—a spear of sapphire and white, more than a hundred feet wide, a blue volcanic exhalation that swallowed Manvac whole and kept climbing.
As the flame collided with the dome of water, it shrieked before exploding outward.
It exploded in a violent, scalding shockwave.
Every single soldier saw the massive column of flames and sucked in a cold breath.
Some screamed their High Millinar’s name, but they had no time to worry about Manvac.
Underneath them, concentric circles of fire appeared and detonated across the clearing. Each one was a roaring wall of incineration that swept outward and consumed everything in its path. Soldiers who were running were still caught by it.
Sweeping flames that kept spreading and spreading—until they struck the water dome’s curved walls.
Despite the sudden ambush, the water dome fought back.
Manvac was still alive, or perhaps this was merely the last wisp of his strength, burning out in one final act of defiance. The Major Law surged with vicious intensity, tearing streams of liquid from the walls and hurling them against the inferno. Water and fire collided, and neither had any intention of yielding.
Such a collision birthed a violence of steam that was scalding thick.
A mist that exploded outward in all directions—a white wall of vapor that swallowed the entire area.
Everything was swallowed, including the clearing, the Divine Source, and the soldiers.
In mere seconds, the water dome became a cauldron of boiling fog and screams.
And from the shattered earth, after the flames evaporated, dozens of massive creatures flew out.
Leading these creatures was a massive shadow that eclipsed the sky.
Alexander rode his partner, eyes fixated on the enemy soldiers, "Leave none alive!!"
