Vieya dreamed a long, long dream.

In the dream, she appeared openly as a Hero. freёwebnoѵel.com

The sky, the blazing sun, a silver-armored Hero carrying twin swords on her back.

The silver-armored Hero stepped upon a red carpet amid the throng of a crowd, climbing the stairway, step by step, toward the Royal Palace of Rodel.

The Royal Palace of Rodel was the grandest, most luxurious castle ever built by humanity after uniting to resist the monsters.

The red carpet stretched endlessly, the crowd surrounding the silver-armored Hero was vast. They seemed to be shouting someone’s name—faces both unfamiliar and indistinct, faces of friends often seen, and the faces of comrades she could entrust her back to.

“Are they shouting my name?”

Vieya wanted to stop, to listen carefully to what exactly they were calling. But her legs refused to obey.

That long stairway laid with red carpet seemed endless. Vieya felt she had walked for ages—so long her sense of time blurred, so long that the crimson sun sank into the horizon and the stars filled the sky.

“Traveler from another world... please pause for me a moment.”

Time shifted, the stars wheeled, and Vieya saw the period when she had been summoned as the Hero of salvation, brought forth by the Empress of humanity through a triple six-pointed summoning array.

“My name is Ye Chi—Chi as in racing forward,” said the silver-armored Hero.

At that moment, Vieya realized she had reached the end ❀ Nоvеlігht ❀ (Don’t copy, read here) of the red carpet. She lifted her head, straining her gaze as though to see through the world itself, to see through the world that had summoned her to be its Hero.

Me, a Hero? Did they get the wrong person? I’m just a little piece of trash, a small fry, useless!

Back when she had first crossed over, Vieya had still been humble, still had a shred of self-awareness.

“It’s alright. Come before me.”

That gentle voice was like sunlight filtering through leaves, like the breeze stirring phoenix trees into a rustle, like a whale breaching and splashing into the sea.

The palace of golden pillars and crimson walls was veiled in mist, and suddenly the silver-armored Hero could once again control her limbs.

Through the misted veil, she glimpsed the palace’s master sitting gracefully within.

Since the master had spoken, the silver-armored Hero had no reason to refuse.

Without thinking further, she crossed the red carpet and moved on, passing through one vermilion arched gate after another, until she finally beheld the owner of that voice.

A young maiden sat beside a hot spring pool. She had not entered to bathe, but had only dipped her pale legs in the water, idly kicking at the surface. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

This maiden hidden behind the palace’s many crimson walls was beautiful. The pure white bathrobe clung closely, outlining a figure both slender and well-proportioned.

The silver-armored Hero could not use words like “seductive” or “alluring” to describe her—such words did not fit her in the slightest.

She sat upon the steaming stone at the hot spring’s edge, gazing out over the myriad lights of the city below, her long crimson hair rising and falling in the evening wind, dignified and commanding.

“My name is Dan Yan. I am a swordswoman.”

The maiden smiled faintly at the silver-armored Hero. “Call me A’yan. I will call you Mister Hero.”

No, no, no—I cannot possibly be a Hero!

All of the silver-armored Hero’s wariness dissolved beneath that gentle smile. She wanted to turn and run, but her legs could not move.

“Oh... so this is what happened on the very first day I came here. It has been so long—the memories are blurred.”

The scene before her made Vieya sigh a long breath.

“Thank you for helping me recall the past. But this dream must end.”

The instant she realized she was dreaming, everything before her froze, then shattered with a resounding crash like broken glass.

Darkness surged in like a tide.

“Thanks to you, I am no longer a Hero now.”

Vieya slowly stood up, noticing her silver armor had vanished from her body. She faced the abyssal darkness before her.

“Why are you still hiding?”

“Demon King—come out and face me!”
