Chapter 9: The Demon Lord
"Hey, what the hell are you doing over there?"
Percy called out to Viva in annoyance, and Viva suddenly snapped out of her shock as she stepped through the gate with a slightly subdued expression. The other demons who had been waiting at the gate all this time gave Percy and Viva unfriendly looks, but none of them dared to say anything since they saw a troll kneeling in front fo PErcy.
Anybody who can gain a troll’s respect is not someone you would want to antagonize.
Viva still didn’t understand what was going on here. The number of shocking events that had happened over the past few minutes was enough to make her question everything she thought she knew about this man!
Viva came closer and spoke to Percy in a very low tone.
"Who are you, librarian? Why was that troll acting like that? I’ve never met any trolls being respectful towards a human."
"It’s nothing. They always treat me like that."
"Well, they shouldn’t! Trolls are all violent creatures that attack before they ask questions! You have to be highly respected before a troll treats you like that! He even went on his knees!"
Percival waved Viva’s worries away, and he said:
"Gorgon is just too zealous. Forget about him. Come on."
Percy began leading Viva through the massive city of Raksha, and Viva put a hand against her head in exhaustion as she wondered what she had gotten herself into right now. The city of Raksha was very busy with hundreds of street sellers and pedestrians moving past them. No one really paid much attention to Percy and Viva, but Viva did her best not to stray too far from Percy, and she walked behind him like a duckling following its mother. ƒrēewebnovel.com
"Is there something down here that can help us solve this case?"
After a while, Viva finally asked a curious question, and Percy rubbed the back of his neck softly as he answered.
"Not directly, but it’s just a lead I’ve been thinking about. What do you know about cult rituals?"
"Cults? You mean like the dark organisations?"
Viva looked up at Percy curiously, and Percy hummed in confirmation. The dark organisations were a group of people who did not like the fact that the war had ended so peacefully, and many of them were always trying to start another war one way or another. Viva had actually considered the possibility that this entire case was being orchestrated by a dark organization, but Percy had taken it one step further.
"The murders look like something they’d do, but if their goal was just to make the demihumans and humans hate each other, then they wouldn’t need to kill this many humans in such a twisted way. They would’ve made the deaths more public."
Viva frowned, and she stared at the ground for a second before she said.
"So you think someone is killing the humans to use them in a cult ritual?"
"Something like that. I might be wrong, but the method of killing and the number of souls being sacrificed are a bit concerning. I just need to check on something in the main castle to see if my suspicions are right or not."
"... I see."
Viva muttered in understanding as she finally understood where Percy was coming from, but even with that understanding, she still had no idea how Percy was able to come to such a conclusion. Since when were academy librarians capable of knowing the workings of cults and rituals?
’I’ll have to keep an eye on him for now. I’m sure I’ll figure out his secret before long.’
Viva made her decision silently, and she hurried to catch up with Percy’s long strides. The two mages walked for about five minutes before they got to the gates leading into the castle, and Viva was shocked when the large trolls standing outside the castle gates simply opened the doors and allowed Percy to walk through. Percy raised a hand to wave to them calmly, and he entered with Viva before they closed the door. Once they were inside, a demon in a black suit was already waiting for them, and just from looking at him, Viva already knew that he was someone really important! The demon bowed and greeted respectfully.
"Hello, Master Percival. It is an honor to see you once again."
"Hey, Zedic. It’s nice to see you too. Is the Demon Lord available?"
Zedic the butler nodded, and he looked up at a balcony above them. A pleasant voice echoed through the room.
"So you finally found me worthy enough to stand in your presence, Percival. What an honorable moment this is for me."
Viva looked up, and she felt her eyes widen when she saw an insanely beautiful woman standing on the balcony! The woman had the same red skin and twisting horns as the rest of the demons in this world, but her appearance was beautiful enough to make you lose your mind! She was wearing a long red gown that hugged her body in criminal ways. The gown had a low neckline that showed off a lot of cleavage, and there was a long slit along the side that exposed her slim, long legs!
’This is the Demon Lord?’
Viva couldn’t help this thought as she stared at the woman, and she wondered how Percival managed to meet someone like this!
"Calypso, it’s been a while. I’m glad to see you’re doing alright."
The Demon Lord frowned when she heard Percy say this, and she began moving down the stairs quickly while talking.
"A while? That’s all you have to say after abandoning me down here for ten years!?"
The Demon Lord reached Percy and got very close to his face, and then she poked him in the chest! fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
"You said you would visit me!"
Percy shrugged.
"I was busy."
"You couldn’t even spare a few seconds for me!? I’ve been waiting for you every day, and you’re still treating me like some child!"
"Ah-hem!"
The butler, Zedic, suddenly cleared his throat from the side, and he spoke up to try to defuse the situation.
"Mistress Calypso. Perhaps now will be a good time to offer Master Percival a room and something to eat? I’m sure he is tired from his travels."
The butler could already see this situation getting out of hand, and he was trying to make sure the Demon Lord didn’t say something that she would regret. Demons were very emotional creatures, so there were times when they allowed their emotions to get the better of them and they did or said something that they shouldn’t! It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Demon Lord ended up trying to force herself on Percy right now!
Calypso seemed to finally come back to her senses when she heard Zedic’s voice, and her cheeks reddened slightly as she cleared her throat and stepped back. There was an air of embarrassment around her body as she apologized to Percy, but then she turned to the side to look at Viva, and she frowned.
"Who’s this? Your servant?"
Viva’s face grew red from anger!
"Who are you calling a servant!? I’m a member of the honorable Aquinas City Guard!"
"A bodyguard? We both know you don’t need something like that, Percival. She’s only going to slow you down."
Viva’s face grew even redder, but Percy spoke up.
"Forget about that, we can catch up later. I came to check the seal."
Calypso’s expression suddenly turned serious when she heard this, and she asked Percy if something had gone wrong.
"Did you feel his demonic energy up there?"
"No, but there’s been some killings that are a bit suspicious. I think it might be related to a ritual, so I need to know if anyone’s tampered with the seal or not."
