Chapter 31: Viva’s Investigation
The Basilisks in the storage room were all extremely poisonous, and even though they were only babies, they had a special magical bite that would turn anyone to stone in seconds! Rita couldn’t have a snake like that running rampant in the library!
Hissss~!
One of the snakes hissed threateningly at Rita from downstairs when it heard Rita lecturing Lana, and Rita’s eyes glowed red as she glared at the snake in annoyance and bared her fangs at it!
"Talk to me like that again, and I’ll eat you." freēwebnovel.com
Hiss~!
The snake hissed in apology as it immediately began to slither away!
"H-Hello...?"
A voice came from the librarian’s desk, and Rita turned to see a young girl holding a stack of books. Rita smiled at the girl before she pet Lana on the head and told her to please keep the Basilisks in check! Lana smiled and saluted.
"Lana understands!"
Rita just laughed while hoping that Lana really understood her before she went to help the student!
Down in the research lab, Percival was standing in front of a table with various potion-mixing apparatus arranged on it! The entire table was filled with glass beakers and cauldrons that were boiling and releasing colourful smoke into the air! It had been close to a month since the Beelzebub incident occurred, and Percy had been surprised when he didn’t have to deal with any guards showing up here to ask him questions about what happened. Out of all the officers that were in the cave under Jacques’ mansion when Percy arrived, Percy knew that Viva was the only one who actually recognized him, so the fact that no guard had come here yet meant either that she didn’t say anything to them about his involvement, or Leonart was somehow stopping them from bothering him! And Percy honestly didn’t care which one it was! Percy was just glad he didn’t have to deal with them. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Percy didn’t really care about getting recognized for what he had done, and he would rather not have to talk to the guards about what he did with Beelzebub’s soul, so this was the best-case scenario for him!
Phwoosh~!
The potion Percy was working on sizzled and popped as it began to boil, and Percy opened a valve and transferred the green liquid into a vial before he floated up to store it on his shelf. This potion was the [Soul Projection] potion that allowed Percy and Viva to talk to Vanessa’s soul. Percy had used up too many of the potions during the previous investigation, so he was trying to replenish his stock while he had some free time!
While he was up in the air, a silver object caught his eye, and Percy turned to see that it was a semi-circular medallion. There was a jagged line running across the edge of the semicircle to show that it had been broken in half from a larger object, and just the sight of the medallion brought back old memories from when Percy had first met Rita years ago. Rita had been malnourished and dirty inside that underground dungeon, but the one thing that she held onto was this half-medallion. Percy could tell it was very important to her, but for some reason, after Percy rescued her, Rita actually threw the medallion away! It had been pretty confusing, and Percy wondered why she had protected the medallion for so long if she would just end up throwing it away, but Rita only said she no longer had any use for it!
Percy had taken the medallion, and Percy kept it without Rita’s knowledge. For some reason, Percy felt like Rita would want to have this medallion back one day, and when she does, Percy would hand it over to her!
"!"
Percy suddenly turned around and frowned when he felt a familiar magic signature coming from the upstairs library. It was a magic signature that Percy hoped would never show itself in this library again, and Percy let out a calm sigh as he floated to the ground and put his hand out towards his potion apparatus.
[Automate]!
One of the bottles on the table suddenly floated up by itself and moved towards the nozzle to fill itself up with the green potion. The bottle closed itself as well and then sat on the table before another bottle continued the process. The [Automate] skill allowed Percy to make inanimate objects carry out certain actions without his input, and once Percy was sure that the bottles were filling themselves properly, he turned and began to leave the research lab.
Percy arrived in the upstairs library only a few seconds later, and the first thing he heard was a loud voice echoing from the library entrance!
"Please, all students need to evacuate the library immediately! Please leave in an orderly fashion to avoid any injuries!"
Percy raised a brow, and he felt slightly annoyed that someone was clearing out his library without his permission. Percy made his way to the front door, and he saw three Aquinas City Guards standing there. Two of the guards were people that Percy didn’t know, and they were helping to guide the students out of the library, and the third person was Viva.
"Percival!"
Viva’s eyes lit up when she saw Percy coming towards the front door. Viva had been talking to Rita about what was going on, but she completely ignored Rita and headed towards Percy once she saw him! Viva had been looking forward to thanking Percy for how he helped them in the previous fight against Beelzebub! Although Viva had been half-conscious at that time, she could still clearly remember Percy arriving at the cave before Beelzebub could kill them. Viva knew that if he hadn’t come when he did, then they would all be dead!
Viva bowed her head once she got to Percy, and she thanked him sincerely, and Percy just told her that it was alright. Percy knew that part of the reason why Beelzebub could do all of this was because he hadn’t been thorough in their previous fight, so Percy felt slightly responsible for what had happened as well!
But Percy was surprised when Viva suddenly leaned in and whispered to him in a conspiratorial tone.
"Don’t worry, your secret’s safe with me."
Percy raised a brow when he saw the knowing smile on Viva’s lips, and Percy could only wonder if she had finally lost her mind. Viva was still smiling, and Viva couldn’t help but study Percy now that they were so close. For the past few days, Viva’s mind had been occupied with thoughts of Percy as she tried to figure out the truth behind Percy’s unexpected strength and connections. Percy was only an Academy librarian, and yet he had strength that was greater than a seventh Realm High Magus, and he was also connected with demons and monsters that most people didn’t even know existed! There was no way someone like this could just be an ordinary person!
’Beelzebub was one of the strongest mages that I’ve ever seen, and yet, it doesn’t look like Percival even struggled in their fight! There were no injuries on him at all!’
Viva’s eyes narrowed as this thought crossed her mind. Viva already had a bit of suspicion about who Percy might be! The chances were slim since no one actually knew what he looked like, but Viva couldn’t help but imagine that Percival might be the mysterious Hero Verati! It was an outlandish thought, and Viva knew that there was a very high chance that she was wrong! Verati was the very epitome of magehood! He had power and skill beyond comprehension, so it was very difficult for Viva to think that an ordinary librarian was the great Hero! But there was just no other explanation for what Viva had seen over the past few weeks!
