Chapter 21: Another Death

The Vampires were a race of people who possessed false immortality. This means that as long as they do not face any form of vampire-killing magic, they could practically live forever. And they all had the trait of only choosing one life partner to spend the rest of their immortal life with. The moment a Vampire chooses a partner, they will devote themselves to that partner for eternity, and the only purpose of their entire life will be to make their partner happy. From the first moment Rita saw Percy, she knew that this was the person that she wanted to spend the rest of her immortal life with, and she had been lucky enough to find out that Percy loved her just as much as she loved him!

But along with this devotion came an intense obsession that made the Vampires one of the deadliest races in existence! Most vampires were calm and easygoing creatures, but the moment they sense that their loved one is in danger, they turn into some of the deadliest monsters that you would ever face! Even the easygoing and kind Rita was known to become a completely different beast when she was fighting for Percy.

The last person who had seen this side of Rita was the current Demon Lord of Tartarus, Calypso. Calypso had once tried to make a romantic advance on Percy after Percy helped seal the previous demon lord. It had been at night, and Calypso had crawled into Percy’s bed. But things had gone horribly wrong when Rita found out what was happening, and Rita had attacked Calypso with so much ferocity that, to this day, Calypso still couldn’t stand in front of Rita without feeling fear in her heart!

Rita hugged Percy with a long sigh as she enjoyed the peaceful moment, but their time together was suddenly cut short as a voice came from upstairs.

"Master Percy! Madam Rita!"

Lana was coming downstairs, and Percy laughed as Rita rushed to get up! Percy brought Rita down for another long kiss, and Rita hit his chest after they separated and told him to make himself presentable! The two of them quickly fixed their clothes and got rid of any evidence of what they had been doing before Lana came into the research room.

.....

[Two Days Later]

"No, Larry, you can’t use your school ID to borrow a book. You need your library card. Didn’t you get one when you enrolled?"

Percy was standing at the librarian’s desk and talking to a small first-year boy with short black hair and braces on his teeth. The boy had been trying to borrow a book using his school id and he looked embarrassed as he told Percy that he had lost his library card. Percy smiled at the little boy and told him that it was fine.

"I’ll help you make a new one, okay? Just make sure you take care of it this time."

Larry nodded shyly, and Percy grabbed one of the papers on the side to help the boy.

Crash!

"Hey, you’re not meant to be out here! Go back inside!"

A voice suddenly echoed from behind Percy, and Larry leaned to the side and looked behind Percy curiously to see what it was. Larry’s eyes widened in shock when he saw a demihuman girl in a maid’s outfit fighting against a giant snake that was wider than her! The snake was hitting her head with its long tail, but the girl wrapped her arms and legs around the snake’s body and pinned it to the ground!

"Uhm..."

Larry began, and Percy looked at him with a hum. Larry pointed back at the fight happening behind Percy, and Percy only glanced at it for a moment before he smiled.

"Oh, that’s just Lana. She’s responsible for keeping the library clean."

"W-What about the giant snake?"

"That’s a Stone Swamp Basilisk from the Northern Xena Mountains. You can just ignore it. I’m sure it’s nothing."

Larry blinked in shock, and he turned and watched as Lana opened her mouth to reveal sharp, jagged shark-like teeth! Lana leaned forward, and the snake’s entire body shivered from pain as Lana bit it hard! The snake immediately clamped its mouth around Lana’s head and began swallowing her! Larry’s eyes widened in shock, and he took a step back as Lana kneed the snake in the belly and forced it to let her go before she suplexed it back into the room with a shout and shut the door behind her! What the fuck!?

Ka-Cha!

Percy looked up as he heard the front door opening, and Percy hummed as he saw Viva entering with a frown on her face. Viva had a folder with some papers in her hand, and she immediately started heading towards the librarian’s table once she saw Percy. Once she was close enough, Viva immediately said:

"I need your help."

Percy was still in the middle of writing out a new library card for Larry, and he took his time and finished with that before he gave the little boy the card with a small nod.

"I already helped you check out the book. Make sure you don’t lose it this time, okay?" ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Larry nodded thankfully, and he glanced back at the door where Lana and the snake had vanished into before he waved goodbye and quickly headed out. Once he was gone, Percy finally gave Viva his attention.

"What can I do for you, officer?"

Percy had honestly been hoping that Viva wouldn’t come back. After sending Viva to meet with Big Mama, Viva never came back to tell Percy what she found out, and Percy just assumed that Viva had gotten enough information to complete the case without him! Percy would’ve been more than happy to allow her to handle the rest of the case, but the fact that she was here now meant that she still needed more from him.

Viva placed her folder down on the receptionist’s desk, and she said.

"Do you have a recent map of the outskirts of the City of Hendrix. Close to the Western Verati Canyon."

Percy raised a brow when he heard this, and he asked Viva why she needed that.

"Big Mama told us that what we’re looking for is an artefact called the [Statue of Eternal Rest]. It’s meant to be somewhere around Hendrix, but all the maps we have at the office are outdated. I need something from at least three years ago."

Viva had a desperate look on her face as she asked this, and Percy could tell that she was very tense.

"Try to relax a little first, and keep your voice down. Remember you’re in a library."

There were some students around who were looking at Viva with curious gazes, and Viva looked around apologetically before she leaned against the receptionist’s desk and let out a long sigh to calm herself. Percy could tell that something had happened recently, and he asked Viva what was making her so tense! Viva closed her eyes and squeezed her hands tightly before she spoke through grit teeth!

"There was another death today. This time it was at the Red Lotus Hotel on the east side of the city. A demihuman staff member stabbed one of the guests to death, and the server claimed that he didn’t know what got into him. I was on the scene, and I watched them take him away. He was crying and begging just like Dalia, and I realised at that moment that you were right. These people don’t know what they are doing. There are so many innocent people in jail right now because of this bastard, and I plan to catch them as soon as possible! I can’t let another person die!"
