Chapter 28: Eclipse Requiem

-----

The bald-student clenched the long broad sword he held tightly. ’What the hell! I thought he would’ve backed down seeing as we outnumber him. But he seriously plans on taking us all at the same time—’

His gaze shifted towards the dead boar whose severed neck still continuously spewed blood.

’And when did he grow so strong. I don’t remember Theon being like this. We’ve just been tailing him for five minutes, but he has already killed multiple beasts— and with so much ease too.’

"Jude, what do we do?" One of the bigger students holding a massive war hammer asked the bald-headed student.

Jude sent a glance at Theon who still glared at them calmly, his katana placed lazily on his shoulder.

’There is no point retreating now.’ Jude tightened his grasp on his broad sword. ’We are all E ranks and we still out number him, it’s better we take the risk.’

"We attack him! Me, Lenny and Spike will flank him from the front." He pointed at the large student with the war hammer and a shorter student who held to curved daggers.

"You two should stay behind and overwhelm him with long-ranged attacks, are we all clear!?"

The other students nodded.

Jude rushed forward with his great sword, his eyes glowing brightly as multiple air currents began to gather and swerve around his large great sword which was raised above his head.

The other two flanked Theon from both his right and left. The short one completely erasing his presence and disappearing while the other raised his war hammer high above his head.

Jude slashed downward and multiple sharp air currents flew forward at great speeds.

Theon immediately unsheathed his katana and slashed at each of air currents, cutting them apart before they could reach him.

Without giving him enough time to react, the large student stepped forward and slammed his war hammer down. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

Theon reacted quickly and rolled sideways avoiding the hammer which slammed into the ground. It smashed the ground and sent multiple bits of rubble into the air.

’He’s handling that hammer like it’s a sword. He’s mutation type has to deal with physical enhancement." Theon stared at the smashed ground. ’If that thing had hit me, I probably would’ve been paste by now.’

Theon slowly stood up, but then his eyes narrowed sharply. His hair stood in end and he immediately raised his sword above his head—

CLANG!

He felt something sharp clashing with his katana sending sparks flying into the air.

’The guy with the twin daggers?’ Theon’s eyes narrowed further. ’So he can hide his presence. That is going to be a pain.’

Jude rushed forward once more, together with Lenny and Spike flanking him and for the next thirty seconds, Theon was forced into defense.

Jude would attack from his front, usually sending out sharp air currents, or he would attack Theon in close combat, creating enough distraction for Lenny, the large student with the war hammer to attack from his right or from behind.

Theon was able to weave and parry through each of the barrage of attacks, but the person who made it more difficult was Spike.

Since he was able to conceal his presence, he would usually wait for an opening to be created before he would attack Theon.

Luckily, Theon could sense his killing intent, allowing him to predict were his next attack would come from.

The two students which they left behind still hadn’t made a single move since the beginning of the fight.

But still, even with the barrage from the three vanguards, they still hadn’t been able to land a single attack on Theon.

"Damn it!" Jude exclaimed with rough breathing, the exhaustion from using his mutation type constantly already taking it’s toll. "How is this guy still unscathed. It almost feels like he can predict our attacks."

"I think... it’s time we switched up our attack pattern." Lenny exhaled, using his massive war hammer as support to keep himself standing.

He probably was the one who faced the highest exhaustion toll due to his physical mutation type.

"Yeah," Spike nodded, beads of sweat dripping down his face. "I think it’s time we used that."

Jude and Lenny nodded.

"Damn!" Theon whispered. "You all are really a pain in the ass."

He twisted his neck slightly and wiped a single bead of sweat of his face.

"You are about to really regret messing with us," Jude grinned, then he turned and nodded at the students that stayed behind.

They both smiled and nodded.

Jude grinned, then rushed forward once again— this time aiming for close combat.

Spike disappeared once more and Lenny flanked from the right. They still went with the same tactic as before, or so they wanted him to think.

Jude performed a diagonal swing with his great sword, but Theon reacted quickly.

He stepped into the swing and grabbed Jude’s arm tightly.

But Jude smiled, as if he had expected Theon to react that way.

Then Theon finally understood why. Through the corner of his eyes, he saw one orange flames gathering in one of the students hands, before firing a massive fireball.

Theon reacted quickly.

He twisted Jude’s arm and his broad sword fell to the ground, then he threw a lightning fast kick that sent Jude flying into the path of the fireball.

The fireball exploded upon contact with Jude’s back, causing him to cough out a mouthful of blood while collapsing on the ground.

Theon breathed out softly, but then his senses began to scream.

He turned and saw Lenny already behind him, his hammer mid-swing, prepared to smash him in two.

Theon tried to step aside and dodge the attack but found he couldn’t.

His gaze fell on his legs, which had been frozen solid to the ground. ’Damn it! When did they—’

He hurriedly placed his blade in the path of the attack and the full force of the hammer slammed into him.

The ice beneath him shattered as he wa sent flying before slamming into a large tree that snapped and splintered the moment his body made contact with it.

He coughed out a mouthful of blood and fell to his knees, his face slightly pale.

His gaze sharpened once more. He could feel the killing intent being aimed at him. Theon twisted his body slightly, but the curved blade of spike still made contact with his arm creating a clean, long cut.

Blood dripped down from the wound slowly. ’Shit! They really took this thing up a notch—’

’But that’s what makes things interesting.’ Theon grinned. ’It would’ve been way to boring if I had beaten them without putting in some effort. I need something that challenges me. Something that makes my blood pump—’

His grin widened. ’And this— this is what gets my blood pumping.’

From the corner of his eye, he could see the student with the Fire mutation type preparing for another attack, and Lenny— rushing forward with his war hammer.

He could also sense Spike approaching as well.

’I guess they want to end things with this last attack,’ Theon still kept his grin. ’But I won’t let that happen.’

He poured his essence into his long katana and a tivated it’s attribute.

[Darkness]

A wave of darkness surged from his blade like a tidal wave and in a few seconds, the whole area around them was covered in complete darkness.

All four students halted their movements, unable to see a single thing.

"What is happening?" The student with the Fire mutation type panicked.

"Is that his mutation type? What do we do? I can’t see a damn—’

WHAM!

The student’s words were cut short as he felt something hard slam into him, knocking him out.

"Rio!! What happened!?" The student with the Fire mutation type exclaimed. "Are you alri—"

He didn’t get to complete his words as well. Something strong and heavy slammed into his head sending him flying.

Lenny eyes darted in the darkness. He couldn’t see a damn thing, but he could hear.

In what was a second, two of them had been knocked out.

"So this is how we are going to be taken out," Lenny whispered.

He sighed helplessly and dropped his weapon on the ground, then he slammed his fist on his chest.

"Come on!! Get it over with!!" He screamed and the next moment, he grimaced.

He felt something hard slam into his gut. He was almost sent flying but stood his ground.

Lenny tried to reach out and grasp what had hit him, but then he felt another heavy hit on his face that snapped it sideways.

Before he could react once more, another hit slammed into him— this time from below, aimed directly at his jaw. frёeωebɳovel.com

It was heavy. His head snapped backwards and he fell to the ground with a heavy thud.

The darkness slowly began to disappear, allowing sunlight to shine on the forest once more.

All the students laid on the floor. Battered, bloodied and unconscious—

Except Spike.

He was able to stay safe thanks to his ability to conceal himself.

His eyes darted around the area, searching for Theon but he was nowhere to be seen.

Spike sighed in relief, then disabled his ability.

He appeared in the open once again.

He silently stared at the state of the field where they just fought.

Multiple trees had either been destroyed or burnt, the grasses as well faced the same fate. The ground had multiple craters on its surface.

"Theon—" Spike exhaled. "How the hell did you become this strong."

He closed his eyes softly, trying to even his breathing, when suddenly— the hairs on his arms stood sharply.

Danger.

His eyes snapped open.

He could sense a presence behind him, before he could turn and react or even activate his ability—

"Too slow." Theon’s voice echoed behind him, before the hilt of his katana slammed into his head.

Spike’s vision blurred and slowly darkened. ’How!? When did he get behind me!?’
