Fear escalated to its peak in everyone’s heart. The very concept of the mission seemed like it was more of a death wish rather than an awakening process.
If the experienced breakers had only managed to uncover and pass through 20 floors, what was a group of newbies supposed to do? Even though some of them were ranked as SS and A, the equation itself didn’t seem fair at all.
"You will be grouped in groups of five each, check your names and meet your teammates before you descend." The driver continued, his tone betraying the fact that he was serious with every word.
The system screens flickered in everyone’s eyes, platforms that only the owner could see or even touch.
Leo’s eyes froze at the sight of it as light reflected straight into his pupils.

The repeated display of the word null made his insides turn, constantly heating up the fury that was stored in his gut for awhile.
An arrow appeared at the right corner of Leo’s screen, it was the exact same kind that came with an ad when he used to browse on his computer.

The words came up when he asked the system what the arrow was all about.
He tapped it with haste and immediately got sent to another part of the screen that had a pretty slick design like some of the most famous universities back on Earth.

The name of the squad came first at the front.

Leo’s eyes followed every single one of them until the last.
’Gotta start figuring them out fast, it would’ve been easy if I didn’t forget their names at the scanning ceremony.’
He removed his gaze from the screen, instead he started looking around the candidates.

One of them being the boy with the SS ranked technique, boosting his memory capability . Other students even came to him for help, aiding them to find who their other teammates were.
’I don’t know who my teammates are but I can’t stoop so low as to ask him for help.’
He thought as he looked at them with a degrading sight while the S ranked breaker laughed friendly with the others he helped. Rather than that, something about his smile didn’t add up to him, at some certain level it even irritated him to his core.
Suddenly a strange voice jogged him out of his line of thought.
"I see, so you hate him too."
Leo jumped off his feet like a cat that had been splashed with water.
"Hey!!"
He screamed at the boy standing to his right. He had the same uniform as Leo and uncombed hair to go with some unclipped buttons of the suit.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about, and how did you even get here without me noticing ?"
"Aah."
The boy sighed lazily like he had this conversation before.
"Don’t lie, I can see the hate in a person’s eyes. I’m Jake Phillips by the way."
He extended a handshake towards Leo.
’So he is Jake Phillips, one of my teammates!’
Leo accepted the handshake with subtle confusion still lingering on his face.
"I’m Leo Hamanay."
He said in return.
"I see we are both in Team D, I would be lying if I said I know who the other three are."
Leo continued, his eyes scouting all over the Eighteen candidates who stood in front of them.
"Don’t worry about that, I know who our other teammates are. See her?"
Jake pointed at a shy young girl with brown hair who stood alone but had a face that seemed like she wanted to ask around who her other teammates were.
"Her name is Jennifer Sending. See those two?"
Then he changed his finger, pointing at a duo of a boy and a girl that were talking to each other. The boy looked like he was a bodybuilder, his muscles tightening so much in the suit like it was going to tear apart. The tall girl next to him seemed confident too, her hips pouring out of the suit.
"That’s Ken broyd and Sabrina blend."
The candidates realized that Jake was pointing at them, after hesitating for awhile they finally came to Jake and Leo, but before they could even say anything the driver interrupted them.
"Now that we have that all over with, let’s get to the important stuff. Follow me closely because I’m never going to repeat this to you all."
Conversations died down in an instant and everyone raised their sights to him.
"Firstly, your abilities need to be upgraded by skill points. You get these points by killing the monsters you find down there. On floors 1 to 3 the highest kill you can get will have 10 points, those points will be divided equally amongst the squad."
He raised his hand as he began counting what he was saying.
"Secondly, once you enter into the first floor you will find an option that will allow you to come back here if you meet something dangerous, but only in emergencies."
He lifted his third finger as he continued with his speech.
"Thirdly, for you to successfully score this awakening test you need to have a grasp of your ability and finish the third floor , where an exit door will automatically appear ."
He finished. By then most of the students had already stopped listening, their thoughts glued on how cool they were going to look when they used their abilities.
"I believe that everyone is in their own groups."
"Yes sir."
They replied.
"You can start going in, but we will start with The A’s first."
Five people finally came out of the bunch being led by the SS rank Breaker, walking towards the edges of the large hole.
They really looked Team A material, they all had overpowered techniques that would change the tide of a battle in a matter of seconds. Without wasting much time they jumped into the large hole, wind blasting at their faces and hair before they completely disappeared into the darkness.
"TEAM B."
Led by the pink-haired girl, four people came out of the bunch, then a minute later jumped inside as well.
After a minute one team jumped in as well, they didn’t look stronger than Team B at all. It almost looked like the quality of strong people was declining with every number and since Leo was in Team D then his squad had to be the worst of the worst.
"Team D, it’s your turn."
Leo and the others walked towards the hole.
Leo felt dizzy for a second as he looked at the endless darkness that he was supposed to jump into.
They looked at each other for awhile, strangers brought together into a new world.
Just like that, they jumped into the darkness as well.
