Chapter 3: ’Null’ !!
Leo could feel the chilling cold diffuse from the ball into his arm. Almost like he had touched an ice block that was just removed from the fridge.
His eyes kept staring at the ball, never flinching to the sides like he was in a staring contest with it.
Everyone in the room stared at him in curiosity, he did have a very healthy body so many reckoned whatever ability he might get would be overpowered too.
But Leo’s mindset was on the opposite side of that line of thought. In the old world he didn’t really get a chance to do something important because of his cancer. But in this new world he had a chance to live a normal life even though it all weighed on what the results of the test were supposed to be.
He waited for seconds then seconds turned into minutes as he stood touching the ball but nothing externally changed besides that the ball was getting even more colder by the minute.
Leo’s eyes widened as hope slowly drained from his face, thoughts of a bad life that awaited him already conquering his mind like visions.
"Just get off it already we are waiting for our turn too."
Murmurs already erupted behind him, whispers that were said not too loud but loud enough for him to hear.
’No, no wait it can’t be, maybe if I just waited much longer.’
He thought, contracting his muscles calling upon everything he believed in to help him but nothing changed.
Slowly reality started settling in, this was not like some of the webnovels he used to read, this was real. Nothing was going to come at the last minute and save his ass or even give him an overpowered skill that would make him nearly unbeatable.
And also make girls like him for no reason at all. This was reality where the universe already set the standard for everything.
The general noticed it too, he swung his fingers as he signaled to the two soldiers that had been kicking powerless teenagers out to take him out too.
"Work please, maybe just this time can something go my way."
Leo whispered under his breath as he pressed another hand on the ball, focusing all his energy on it.
As the two soldiers were about to carry him away off a screen finally appeared on top of the ball.
Everyone immediately raised their heads up to read what his ability was.
[Name: Leo Hamanya]
[Role :Null]
[Affinity: Null]
[Rank: Null]
[Level 1 Skill: Null]
"Null? As in my ability is nothing, how is that even possible?"
He whispered in surprise as he finished reading what the scanning device had showed. Little did he know that his words were exactly what everyone else was thinking too.
Murmurs exploded like crazy inside the hall, like a scientist had just made a ground-breaking discovery. Even Leo the wielder didn’t know what to make out of the ability, whether he should’ve been happy or sad. He just stood frozen, his mind throwing different theories into the air.
’This has to be the goddess it’s the only explanation for this.’
He thought, his heart rushing so fast almost like it was about to jump out of his throat.
But as everyone’s gasps slowly began to die down the general finally broke the destruction going forward on the stage.
"Do not fear we have encountered this same situation before, this is the third time now."
He paused letting the information dwell into his audience, a technique that just supported that the man had good communication skills.
But even with that, the general’s words brought up more questions than it answered. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
Leo stuck in thought, pulling his right hand on his chin as if he had any beard on it he could hold on to.
’Wait so I’m the third person this weird Null thing has happened to.’
He thought breaking down everything, but that’s when it hit him. A piece of the puzzle he had failed to see in the general’s explanation.
’So if my theory that the goddess has a hand in this is right, that means there might also be some other two people that came here first and met the goddess before me.’
His eyes widened even wider, fingers started to tremble at the weight of it all.
"Be reminded that these people bear the system but not yet their skills. Whether they can remove the Null option and uncover what’s beneath is entirely up to them but if they don’t they cannot pursue the title of a breaker." ƒrēewebnovel.com
The general continued, not moving away from his fury form even once.
"Now that we got that out of the way may we continue with our ceremony."
The man turned down the disruption hard, knocking it out of the pack before it even grew wings.
Leo went back to his post back on the parade line his face neither showing happiness nor sadness. But deep down his soul a very subtle feeling of relief rested there.
’Maybe hopes of living a good life aren’t over yet.’
The other candidates’ eyes escorted him all the way. Like he was a celebrity amongst fans. But if you looked at it in another way it did seem like that.
The ceremony continued, unlike the first round of teenagers who touched the ball those that came after Leo were lucky. There were a lot of A ranked kids with pretty useful abilities and against all odds there was even a kid named Max who awakened an S rank ability.
By the end of the ceremony everyone had gone back to forgetting that Leo even existed.
"You’ve done good today, all twenty candidates inside this HQ is now a contender to become a breaker."
The general continued, he didn’t seem at all bothered that he did most of the talking.
Many teenagers had smiles covering their faces as relief finally flooded their souls.
"Tomorrow you will begin your training where you are going to awaken your abilities. Anyone who fails to awaken his ability tomorrow will not be registered as a Breaker."
Just as everyone was becoming comfortable the general went in and added an even more troublesome topic.
’I’m way behind, the others already know what their abilities are so it’s easy for them to awaken them. But mine is dormant that means I wouldn’t even know where I’m throwing my stone. If I want to have hopes of living a good life then I have to give it all tomorrow.’
Leo thought, resolve shaping up on his face, giving him strength even though everything was against him.
"But for today, you will rest the other soldiers will direct you to your dorms where you can refresh as we get ready for tomorrow. Am I understood?"
"Yes sir."
Everyone saluted instinctively.
"I can’t hear you candidates."
"Yes sir!"
They screamed even louder this time, fired up by the sweet and yummy promises that the general had made to them.
Within seconds he got out of the hall, then the remaining soldiers showed them all to their dorms as the sunset dropped on them.
