Chapter 20: What happens after training in the Growth Nexus
The system had made Leo train endlessly, using extreme psychological and physical methods to break him into pieces so that it could collect all of them back and mold him into something worth looking at in the end. That was what the goal was meant to be,atleast that’s what he thought. Though it was still unknown if the process would even work.
For the past hour, the system had told him to run around the whole large room hundred times. He did it for the first time, and it seemed as normal as what everyone would expect a run around a room to be like. And so was the second round, but the third round came with a surprise he never anticipated. The room had seemingly increased in size. At first, Leo thought he was crazy, or maybe that his mind was just playing tricks on him, but as he finished the fifth round, he was sure of it.
[The size increases twice with every round, it will happen until you finish the 100 counts.]
That’s what it said when Leo abruptly asked it what was going on.
It annoyed him to his stomach, turning with a violent swoop that made his gut feel like it was being stirred with a spoon. But that’s what he agreed to anyway, so giving up was not an option. He was not going to let the world beat him up for being weak again. So with all the breath he could master, he finished running in the room.
The second training kept the brutal vibes rolling. Remember the flat structures that were floating in midair? The system told him to jump from each one to the next until he managed to arrive at the other side of the room that had now enlarged since he had finished running around it 100 times.
But this was different from the safety games that people used to play back on Earth. In here, if you fell off a floating structure, it meant you would fall headfirst onto the open ground, suffering the full wrath of pain that came with falling down. And every time that was the case, he would have to start from the very beginning. Your progress didn’t matter here unless it was at the end.
Leo tried countless times, falling to the ground more times than he could count, but each time he would rise up with a surge of pain rolling through his body, then after cleaning his bloody face, go back to the beginning.
Until finally, at the end, he managed to pass through it.
By that time, he only had something around 45 minutes left . His body seemed like it had begun adapting to the hardship. Even though there was still pain involved, it wasn’t unbearable anymore, he could think through the pain now.
He stretched a little as he began the bodybuilding side of his training, you know, the part that most people skip because of the muscle cramps in the end.
He did 100 push-ups and sit-ups relentlessly. And to his surprise, he started noticing the changes in his body. The large jacket that the Horsemen had teasingly given to him had started to fit him properly now, holding onto his body much better than before.
[Five minutes left :: Training over]
"Shit, I look completely different now. On normal terms I shouldn’t results immediately. But I guess the chamber’s effects had a hand in it."
Leo muttered as he looked at his own image in the mirror. He looked closely at his body, touching his biceps that felt much stronger than before. Not larger, but far different from when he first arrived in valoria
He didn’t know how to explain it either, but somehow he felt more confident as well, like he could take on anything in the world.
[Congratulations for completing your time in the chamber.....]
[Do you wish to take a test to see just how you’ve improved?] freewebnoveℓ.com
"Yes, please. I can feel power surging through my veins, and I need somewhere to let it out."
Leo accepted, his eyes carrying a large amount of determination they hadn’t carried since meeting the goddess in the strange Greek-like hall.
[Rendering test....]
Leo readied himself, conjuring the twin blades into his hands as he jumped up and down, trying to warm his body for the fighting to come. The first time with the test, it didn’t go so well for him. The bullets managed to hit him repeatedly into a pulp, and by all means he wasn’t going to let history repeat itself.
[NOTICE, Test has been changed.]
’Wait, I’m no longer dodging bullets?’
[Going into automatic override.....]
The screen automatically directed itself to another page without Leo having any kind of say in it. As if that wasn’t bad enough, a message came up on the screen that made his heart skip a beat.
[For your test, you shall fight the Knight of Flames.]
’What in the heck kind of test is that? That’s suicide.’ freēwebnovel.com
Memories of the Knight of Flames started to erupt in his mind like a video. The way it moved, the way its attacks flowed naturally like it had been killing humans for millennia. Even though he had worked out and increased his physical potential, Leo wasn’t yet sure if he was even a foot near its power.
The system had already begun setting up what was supposed to be Leo’s test, even though it felt like it was setting up his murder. A large tall red glow appeared in the chamber, its light bouncing off Leo’s eyes as he stood in a battle stance with the twin blades in his hands. The flaming feet came first, the arms second, until finally it appeared in the chamber, changing the mood of the place drastically.
A large surge of heat emitted off its flaming metal armor. The heat was even much stronger than when they were in the jungle.
Leo had assimilated it with his technique, it was only fair that the Knight was very angry with him.
Leo stood still, watching the tall muscular knight with the flaming metal blade strapped to its back stand outside the portal.
His heart started to run faster than a horse in a race, his hands trembling visibly as he slowly started losing his grip on the blades.
’Don’t be afraid, I am stronger now.’
He tried to convince himself, and by all means it was working. But that thought was quickly crushed as another notification made the situation worse than it already was.
[During the Fight, you will not be able to use the Knight’s affinity.]
"Shit, that means that I can’t use Flamming Nucleus. This is bad"
