Chapter 99: Chapter 83: Buy 10, Get 1 Free
As evening approached, Yangjiao Town was bustling with activity.
There are two stories about why it’s called Yangjiao Town. One legend says that long ago, two brothers were being chased by goblins. When they ran to this spot, they encountered a ram with large horns. The ram killed the goblins with a single headbutt. The brothers then decided to settle here, naming the place after the ram’s horns.
The other story is that if you look down from the sky, you’ll discover the town is symmetrical. The Darren River runs through the middle, separating the commoners’ East District from the wealthy West River district. The two areas are roughly the same size, and the town’s overall shape resembles a ram’s head.
Compared to the spacious layout of West River, the commoners’ East District is more crowded. Many outsiders come here to make a living, supporting Yangjiao Town’s prosperity.
Bordering the Nightmare Forest, Yangjiao Town’s main industries are lumber processing, furniture manufacturing, and fishing, in addition to specialized industries related to the forest.
These specialized forest industries are mainly related to Adventurers and include herb gathering, Magical Beast hide and bone processing, the sale of rare forest items, and goblin ear collection.
Someone once wrote a book titled "Ear-conomics." It detailed how money flowed from Kingdom subsidies into the pockets of Ear Cleaners through bounties, and then back to the state as taxes from various businesses. The author greatly praised the Ear Cleaners for supporting numerous auxiliary shops, ensuring trade routes remained open, and protecting surrounding agricultural production.
The Adventurer Association of Yangjiao Town is located in the northern part of the East District.
It is a large building with white walls and red tiles. In front of the main gate is a small plaza where many Adventurers negotiate team-ups. You can see humans, Elves, Dwarves, and some Half-elves and gnomes among them.
Each region’s Association plaza has its own character. In the southern coastal areas, you see more Islanders, whose bronze skin and sturdy builds all speak to the traits of a Berserker. The farther north you go, the higher the proportion of Dwarves and the lower the proportion of Elves in the plazas. Moreover, the northern Association plazas have a unique feature: there’s always a tavern next to the plaza, there’s always a fight in the tavern, and there are always a few drunken Dwarves passed out nearby.
At that moment, an Elf Ranger and two human women walked out of the Association’s main gate.
"Finally, that’s enough. I’m going to sign up in a bit." The Elf Ranger adjusted the longbow on his back and looked down at his teammates. "Lira, Luna, are you two really not going to sign up?"
"No, Emlyn," Lira said with a small smile, explaining, "Uncle Yu Le sent us a letter. He wants us to return to Black Lion City immediately."
"That’s a shame. If you don’t have enough, I can go back to the forest with you to kill some more goblins." The Elf, Emlyn, pointed to the registration point in the distance, which was surrounded by a crowd. "There’s still plenty of time before the Storm Brotherhood’s registration closes. If we work hard, it shouldn’t be a problem."
"No, thank you." Lira politely declined. "We’re still far from enough, and the goblins in the forest..."
"Are very tough, right? You’ve said that many times, Lira. I don’t deny that large groups of goblins can appear, but we haven’t heard of any particularly powerful ones for a long time. They must have been wiped out by senior Adventurer teams." Emlyn gestured with his hands, trying to persuade his teammates again.
"Maybe so, but I still have to remind you, the forest is very dangerous," Lira said seriously, her gaze turning solemn.
"Alright, I can’t convince you. These days we’ve spent teaming up will be a memory I’ll never forget." Emlyn sighed and held out his hand. "I hope that by the time you return from Black Lion City, I’ll already be a member of the Brotherhood."
"Good luck. No, I wish you a safe return to the Great Dome," Lira said with a smile, taking his hand.
"Look, they’re fighting over there," Luna suddenly cried out.
In the distance, a Dwarf and an Elf were fighting, CLANG! CLANG! A swift sword and a double-bladed axe clashed repeatedly while a crowd of people clapped and cheered them on.
"I’m going to go sign up. Goodbye." Emlyn waved and walked around the dueling pair.
"Sigh, everyone’s gone crazy." Lira watched her teammate’s departing back and asked softly, "Luna, why do you think Uncle insisted we go back?"
"I don’t know." Luna hugged her magic staff and pouted. "Sister, what are we eating tonight?"
Lira ignored her sister’s question. She let out a breath and looked up at the clouds. ’Father, where in the world are you?’
"It’s okay, sis. We’ll find him." Her sister walked over to comfort Lira, then asked again in a small voice a few seconds later, "What are we having for dinner?"
"Smoked fish over rice." Lira gritted her teeth and forced out the words.
"Can’t we eat something better?" Luna grabbed her sister’s arm, shaking it.
"A feast, a feast! We’ll go to a restaurant in West River." Lira was rocked back and forth by her sister’s shaking.
"You’re the best, sis!" Luna cried, hugging Lira’s arm.
「...」
"What can I get for you?" Mary asked politely.
"I need some Healing Potion and two Awakening Potions," Emlyn said with a slight bow, stating his request.
"Are you heading into the forest? The forest is especially dangerous at night." Mary skillfully took three bottles of Healing Potion and two bottles of Awakening Potion from the shelf.
"No, I don’t need to go to the forest for now. I’m still waiting for the selection," Emlyn explained, shaking his head.
"I see. Did you also sign up for the Storm Brotherhood? In that case, I’d recommend you buy an Acceleration Potion." Mary took out a green Acceleration Potion and placed it on the counter. "It will significantly increase the speed of your draw and your overall agility."
"Hmm." Emlyn crossed his arms and thought. ’An Acceleration Potion would certainly be useful, but the price is a bit steep. Without Lira and her sister around, I don’t have a frontline or a healer. It would be better to stock up on more Healing Potions.’
"I heard from other Adventurers that the selection might be a team battle format, and potions aren’t forbidden. I’m sure this Acceleration Potion will boost your combat effectiveness," Mary continued her sales pitch. Her smile and gestures were not at all off-putting.
"Team battles?" Emlyn asked, looking intently at Mary.
"It’s just something I heard, I can’t guarantee it. You’ll have to judge for yourself," Mary said with a smile, waving her hand dismissively.
"Hmm?" The Elf, Emlyn, frowned, carefully considering whether he needed an Acceleration Potion.
"Oh, right. Our workshop not only recycles used potion bottles, but we also have a ’buy 10, get 1 free’ deal on Healing Potions. If your team buys in bulk, I’d suggest buying 10 directly. That way you get an extra bottle of Healing Potion," Mary enthusiastically explained the store’s promotion.
This plan was also set by Shire; the main strategy was all about volume.
"Is it really buy ten, get one free?" A Mage holding a book walked in from outside. "If so, can we purchase five hundred bottles of Healing Potion?"
