Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Begging The Senior

Shen Yuan could practically see the level of loyalty and allegiance slowly rising up within their eyes.

Even though they had just met today, they won’t easily betray him now.

But that’s only in normal circumstances.

After all, this was a demonic sect, and people suffer here every hour of every day. Simple words would not hold any meaning if he did not put his money where his mouth was.

’Now that I think about it, this is the perfect opportunity. Servants are like ravens who are always watching from the back, yet people tend to ignore them, deeming them as harmless.’

Shen Yuan knew that if he played his cards right, he could build a group of servants loyal only to him. A group that could serve his needs and help him climb towards what he truly wanted.

He looked at the short brown-haired young man with bright red eyes, then at the servant sitting quietly in the corner who hadn’t said a word since the conversation began.

"What are your names?"

The red-eyed man blinked, caught off guard by the sudden question. "Bei Zhu. That’s me." He motioned toward the corner. "That’s Lin Feng."

Lin Feng was a thin, wiry man with sunken cheeks and calloused hands—the kind of hands that came from years of hauling supplies up mountain paths.

His eyes were sharp despite his tired appearance, darting between Shen Yuan and Gu Ren with quiet caution.

Shen Yuan nodded slowly, committing the names to memory.

’Bei Zhu, Lin Feng.’

His silver eyes glinted faintly in the dim sunlight.

"Now that I am your leader, why don’t we start with finding a way to address ourselves?" he said, his voice calm but carrying a weight neither of them expected. "We’re no longer just servants who happen to share a room. We are now bound by greater cause. So we need a name that binds us together."

Gu Ren raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"

"Stray Feathers. That’s what we will be called from now on."

The name hung in the air. Simple. Unassuming. Easy to forget.

Exactly the way Shen Yuan wanted it.

’No one pays attention to ravens. They’re background noise, but no one notices their hawklike gaze.’

Gu Ren let out a low chuckle, though there was a nervous edge to it. "A name for a group of three servants? That is quite Bold. Do you know that private groups are forbidden to be made without proper permission from an elder or someone with higher authority?"

"I know, we will just be working inside this manor. No need to make our messy lives messier."

"What exactly do you want from us?"

Shen Yuan’s expression didn’t change. "I want to become the floor leader."

Silence.

Gu Ren’s jaw dropped slightly before he caught himself. "You—"

He lowered his voice immediately, glancing at the door.

"You want to replace Elder Feng’s little pet? The current leader is a peak Qi Condensation Realm cultivator. Do you understand what that means?"

Elder Feng was one of the outer sect elders with a cultivation base of Core Formation Realm. He taught all the outer disciples along with other elders.

He was known to be someone with questionable hobbies and enormous ego. If someone dared to touch his toys, they would just disappear one day and then appear outside the gates of the sect, stripped to the muscles, bleeding all over.

He would leave them alive on purpose to make them feel the pain when birds and animals would come and feast on their bodies as they screamed in agony until the light in their eyes gave out.

"An Elder’s pet? I did not know that... but that does not change the fact that we will take him down."

"Then you understand it’s suicide." Gu Ren shook his head, though something in his eyes—that same flicker of ambition from before—hadn’t fully died out. "No servant has ever challenged a floor leader. Not in the history of this sect."

"Then it’s about time someone did."

Before Gu Ren could respond, the door creaked open.

A young man stepped inside, unremarkable in nearly every way. Average height. Average build. The kind of face that blurred together with a hundred others in the servant quarters. He looked around the room, confused, clutching a small bundle of belongings against his chest.

"Um... is this Room 67? I was told this is where I’d be staying."

Gu Ren, Bei Zhu and Lin Feng exchanged glances.

Shen Yuan studied him for a moment. There was nothing noteworthy he could find. He had an ordinary appearance and normal cultivation, the first level of qi condensation realm.

Which made him perfect.

’A perfect background character no one suspects or looks at twice. I should probably try to learn about him more before I invite him to our group.

"What’s your name?" Shen Yuan asked.

"...Chen Bo."

"Chen Bo." Shen Yuan gestured to the empty bed. "Sit. That will be your bed from now on."

The young man hesitated before slowly making his way over, still unsure of what he’d walked into.

The other three servants watched the boy move slowly from the gate to the bed. They were not staring at him but the tonnes of luggage he had brought along with himself.

"What is all that?" Ling Feng could not help but ask what everyone was wondering. There were three suitcases of luggage Chen Bo had brought along with him.

"Sorry, I bought a lot of things over the year, and most of them are books. I love to read."

"Hmmm? Do you read anything noteworthy?" Shen Yuan asked the boy, trying to make casual conversation. ’Maybe he has some yellow trance techniques that I might be able to borrow. Or maybe he has some knowledge of other things that can help me unlock some hidden techniques.’

There were many things going on in Shen Yuan’s mind, but he did not jump to conclusions until he heard the proof himself.

And sadly, truth can often be disappointing.

"Ah! I have read novels like fallen Sect master’s comeback. Spying on the Demonic Sect Master gone wrong and a last one called... Loser Senior Brother begs me to Come back."
