Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Missed Opportunity

Shen Yuan had completely lost himself to the grind. He was running around the forest, practicing Silent Reaper’s Step.

Whenever he came across a wild beast, he would engage in a fight and try to hone his fighting style.

Eventually... Shen Yuan no longer left any bodies behind.

He took time and effort to dispose of the corpses after.

Robbing the bodies of their meats, he would dispose of the remains.

He did not want to leave behind a trail of bodies behind. A trail could lead people to him, and he did not want that to happen.

At least, not yet.

So, after five dead beasts and two hours of continuous practice, Shen Yuan finally achieved the results he wanted. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

[Congratulations on Learning The Silent Reaper Step Technique (Yellow high rank).]

[Reward: 100 Exp]

"A high rank? What a steal." Shen Yuan let the subtle frown on his face ease as he read the notification. "I wonder what face they would have made if they knew about it."

He had learned a lot of things in the past two days.

From Introduction To Immortal Realm, he learned about the rankings of Techniques.

Yellow Grade Techniques.

They were the weakest techniques a cultivator could use with qi.

Profound Grade Techniques.

They came on the second day.

He was surprised to learn the fact that the very technique they had been forced to learn from the start was not a mere lowly technique.

The True Scripture of The Bloody Moons was a proper Profound Grade Technique.

Many vagabond cultivators die before they could even have the fortune to see the cover of such a technique.

But here was the demonic sect. Spreading the technique for them to learn like they were distributing promotional pamphlets.

After the Profound grade came the legendary Earth grade techniques.

These were the scriptures and texts that even Core Formation Realm cultivators cannot get their hands on.

Shen Yuan was not making these things up. But these were the notes written at the bottom of the Chapter of the book, letting everyone realize just how important and expensive the techniques of Earth grade were.

It was practically impossible for anyone to get their hands on an Earth grade technique. That is unless they gain an Elder as a master or are fortunate enough to get their hands on a legacy of a fallen cultivator.

Another thing he learned was about the system.

It recognized these grades of techniques on a much more refined scale.

Each technique was ranked within its own grade.

Their ranks followed as low, medium, high, and, finally, the peak rank.

There was no mention of said ranks, even in the very detailed book he had read.

The existence of these Sub-Ranks was a game changer.

The reason for that was, System granted him different Exp for every one of them.

For instance.

If he had comprehended a Low Yellow grade technique, he would earn 50 exp. But if it were a high rank of the same grade, he would get 100 for the beginner-level mastery.

For the Peak rank yellow Grade technique, it was 125 Exp.

"I should continue while I still have the hang of it." Instead of moving on to the Heavy Axe Slash, he decided to further deepen his understanding of the technique.

After another hour of training, Shen Yuan felt his steps were much smoother than before.

His steps were light and almost soundless, but there were still flaws in his technique; he could hear the sound of his movement and the air shifting.

The main point of this movement technique was to erase all of that while increasing his speed.

However, going from a beginner to a proficient level was not that easy.

He tried everything, changed the way he moved, and tried to erase the mistakes he found, but no matter what he did, his mastery did not change.

"Is it because of qi?" Shen Yuan wondered if the lack of qi was hindering his progress.

To avoid getting frustrated, Shen Yuan moved on to the next technique.

He picked up the axe lying against some tree and closed his eyes once more.

The gears in this brain started to turn; the details of the technique were pulled out of his memory and appeared before his closed eyes.

With his eyes still closed, Shen Yuan took a stance.

His knees buckled and his back straightened. He raised the axe diagonally over his right shoulder.

"Ha!"

The moment he was in that position, Shen Yuan’s whole bearing had changed. Without even realizing it, he adjusted his posture on very small levels.

He felt like with the axe in his hands, he could do anything.

His body started to move on his own. This kind of instinct did not come out of nowhere.

They only appear when you have practiced something for several hours and days.

And when you perform that technique, your body moves before your mind even completes its thought.

Shen Yuan did not realize what it was, but he let the feeling engulf his mind and body.

’Cut.’ With nothing but Axe in his hand and a single thought in his mind, Shen Yuan swung.

Clink!

Shen Yuan finally opened his eyes when he felt like he had completed performing the technique.

The moment his gaze landed on the result of the aftermath of his attack, his eyes went wide in shock.

!!!

The axe had not just struck the five-meter-wide tree effortlessly; it came out from the other side as if he had not just sliced through a tree as tough as a boulder but had just chopped down a chicken.

Shen Yuan had severed the tree with a strike so clean that the upper part was still slowly sliding off the trunk below.

Woosh!

He watched the tree fall down with a loud thud and blinked in surprise.

[Ding!]

A glistening notification appeared before his eyes in the middle of the rising cloud of dust.

Congratulations on learning the Heavy Axe Slash. (Yellow Grade Mid Rank)

"What?" At first Shen Yuan could not understand why the two techniques needed different time spans.

But then he recalled the day he spent long hours engrossed in chopping wood in a trance-like state.

’Was that what they call The focused State or Enlightenment?’ Shen Yuan looked down at his axe.

Shen Yuan opened the techniques panel and found the technique.

[Axe Fighting Technique, Mastered Stage (Yellow Peak)]

"Was it because of this that I learned this technique so fast?" As his focus shifted, his eyes moved past the letters and landed on the axe in his hands. ’Maybe the axe also made it easier. It is much better than the old one.’

Shen Yuan could feel he was able to wield the axe easily.

Focusing back on the screen, he saw that the number of techniques listed had been increased once more.

Satisfied, Shen Yuan tried to close the screen, but another panel appeared before him.

Level: 6/10 (Late Stage of body Tempering ) XP: 2975/4000

[Strength (STR): 25]

Agility (AGI): 25

Dexterity (DEX): 26

Physique (PHY): 25 ]

Hold up!

Shen Yuan’s mind went blank. He hurriedly stopped himself from closing the screen.

’Why does this look so uneven? Where did the extra points come from?’

His Dexterity had gone from 25 to 26 even though he had distributed it evenly across the attributes.

"It changed after tonight. Was it the movement technique?" Dexterity was the flexibility of the body. The ease with which he could move through complex moves.

If that had increased, it had to be because of the gruesome training he put his body through while practicing the technique.

Thinking of all that, Shen Yuan reached a conclusion. "I can raise my stats by training too..."

’Just how broken could this system be?’

The boy thought to himself.

Until now he did not have enough time to train his body properly. The only way he reached his current state was all thanks to the system. Without it he might still be struggling to find a way to stay alive.

At some point he had started to think that he could only get stronger because of it.

’No more. I cannot keep letting my thinking hold me back.’ Shen Yuan instantly corrected himself and decided to look over the system one more time, in case he missed something else.

As it turns out...

He did!
