Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Shen Yuan’s Regret

Under the effects of the pill, not just Xin Delun but even Shen Yuan and the female servant were also moving poisoned bodies to a single first. ƒreewebɳovel.com

While Shen Yuan was moving the bodies, he noticed something that made him pause. When he flipped one of the bodies, he noticed a faint pricking mark on the back of the neck.

If it were him, he would have dismissed it as something as insignificant as an insect bite or something but with the knowledge of a physician. He understood acupoint and meridians more than most of the servants and even disciples of the sect.

Death acupoint.

Everyone has it, but it’s hidden in different locations for everyone. It’s rare to find two people with the same death acupoint.

And to locate them, you have to be either a very talented healer or killer. With a slight touch on the wound, Shen Yuan’s doubts were confirmed.

The wound was not a bite mark. It was made using a very thin needle, almost as thin as a strand of hair.

Now he had no doubt that the whole war between two factions of the sect was nothing but a facade made by someone else to keep people off their trail.

If someone knew what he had uncovered, there was no doubt he would become one of the dead bodies in the pile. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Once again, Shen Yuan regretted taking such a mission just because it looked easy and paid more.

’I should have known that there would be a catch like this.’ Shen Yuan had thought that at best he would have to clean up a body or two because someone did not want to, but who would have thought something like this would be going on in the background?

’Telling the overseer is out of the question.’ Shen Yuan glanced at the man leaning against the wall with his eyes closed from the corner of his eyes and shook his head internally. ’I have to make sure no one finds out what I know.’

As if nothing had happened, Shen Yuan moved to the next body. But whichever body he picked, he found the same mark on them.

Everything he had deduced was looking more like the truth with each body he inspected.

’If I found something like this. Could Elder Jun and overseer Jiang also know about it?’ Shen Yuan glanced at two other servants, but the two of them seemed to be working normally.

’I wonder if they will kill us once we clean the bodies for them.’ From What he understood, the people of the demonic sect were no different than the people he knew. It was just that they were extreme.

If there was a situation where they could either persuade someone or kill them just to get them out of their way, they would choose the latter.

So if killing was an easier way to ensure their silence on the matter, what’s stopping them from doing it?

But no matter what he thought to get out of his situation, Shen Yuan knew he was powerless to act on it. So he decided to leave his worries behind and let things play out before making a decision.

"Don’t think of taking anything from the bodies. We will know, and I assure you, you don’t want me to find you stealing something from the sect." Overseer Jiang walked around the corridor full of bodies with a calm look on his face.

The way he watched their every move with a twisted look on his face showed he was not pleased to be there or with what they were doing.

"If only I could have done it myself."

It was not just Shen Yuan but even the female disciple who passed at his random comment. She looked at him with narrowed eyes before glancing at Shen Yuan, who had already received and dropped another body on the pile.

’So there was a reason they could not do it themselves.’ Shen Yaun’s thoughts were already directing his comment for clues while he channeled his cultivation technique to train.

Shen Yuan did not want to waste his time thinking too much about the situation, so he decided to practice while carrying bodies.

At first he did not hope for any progress and just wanted to increase his understanding of the technique, but when he felt his body slowly tensing up. His muscles contracting and expanding with each breath he took, he realized.

Even without a proper dantian, Shen Yuan could temper his body and complete the first realm of the cultivation.

But there was a problem; even as he moved, Shen Yuan was feeling a throbbing pain all over his body. It was not the result of his cultivation but deep hidden injuries left from earlier.

’I have to repair my body as soon as possible.’ It did not take long before Shen Yuan and the others had cleaned up most of the bodies.

"What is that?" Xin Delun suddenly noticed something in the far end of the corridor that they had not touched yet. "Why is this one different?"

There among the corpses was another body. But unlike the rest, this one was not killed from a sword wound or using poison.

The body of the woman lying on the ground was horrifying to say the least. Her skin was shriveled as if someone had sucked the life out of it. Her bones were sticking out from the skin with little to no muscles visible.

This woman was wearing different robes. They were white, just like the ones they were wearing, but it had more complex and beautiful embroidery done on it. She also wore a sleeveless black robe over it, which was left open from the front.

The most horrifying thing about her was the expression. Her eyes were wide open, shaking, and despair was etched in her dying body.

Shen Yuan noticed something: the hand of the woman was touching another body. The one who had died from a normal slash wound.

"This... right here is the reason we assigned this task for mere junior servants." Overseer Jiang paused as he pointed his finger at the corpse with a playful glint in his eyes. The look on his face sent a chill down the servants’ spine, causing them to step back.
