Chapter 15: Chapter 15: The Suspicious Task

"I was lucky to have found him in an intoxicated state and catching him off guard." Shen Yuan slumped on the bed as he stared at his trophies with a calm look. "Had he been more guarded and experienced, I would have not gotten him so easily."

"But I wonder why I killed him like that. I could have just killed him without him ever knowing it was me who did it." Shen Yuan thought to himself while staring out of the window. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

He was searching for an answer long before he came to this world, and he still did not know it yet.

Maybe he was broken like that.

While watching the scene of the forest behind his cottage, Shen Yuan noticed a bird flying far away in the distance. But even though the distance was large, the bird looked big to him.

It only took him a second to realize that it was not a bird but a huge monster who was as big as the trees and as wide as the boulders.

Snapping out of his daze, Shen Yuan shook his head and looked down at the spoils he had claimed from Zhu Wei.

Inside the bag, there were hundreds of Girds, too many to count at once. Along with them, there were some healing balms he was familiar with and other personal items.

The most important thing inside the bag was probably not the money but the salves.

Shen Yuan took everything of importance and threw the rest out of the window, into the Grand canyon where no one could find a trace of it unless they went looking for the bag.

No one was free or cared enough to look for belongings of a mere servant in the land of great danger.

After the fresh kill, Shen Yuan started to feel sleepy once more and hit the bed. The next morning, he was woken up by the bustling sound coming from the streets.

He stood up and walked out of the hut. He followed the other servants to a place where a crowd was gathered.

"Who could do such a thing?"

"It’s a good thing that he died. He is one of Peng’s goons. He deserved to die."

"Indeed, they have made our lives living hell. It was not bad enough that we were dragged into this place, but now they even stole from us to fill their own pockets."

"Hey! Do you understand where you are? Look there, that Peng is coming here; you should watch what you say."

The other servants looked around and noticed Peng Ho walking towards them with his whole group.

Shen Yuan did not even have to see what was going on. Just from hearing the whispering around them, he got the gist of the situation.

’It seems someone found the body.’ His eyes landed on the three parts of Zhu Wei lying on the ground, right where he had left him yesterday.

"What happened?" Even though he knew exactly what had occurred, Shen Yuan still asked the nearest person to him with a clueless look on his face.

Much to his cursed fate, he was familiar with the person standing next to him. It was none other than Shi Lui.

The young woman had her long brown hair tied in a bun. She stared at the severed head of Zhu Wei with an empty gaze. There was no anger or hatred within them, only a deep void.

Even though the man who had done such horrible things to her had died, her fate was already sealed. It did not change the fact that she was defiled; she lost her childhood and innocence, and no matter what happened, it would never come back.

So when she heard Shen Yuan’s question, she turned to face him. A flicker of recognition appeared in her eyes before she opened her mouth and uttered the coldest words she could muster, "Just one less bug on the planet."

Saying that she turned around and left. Shen Yuan stared at her lonely back with a thoughtful look on his face before he found another person and asked them the same thing.

"It seems someone came to take a dump in the morning and found Zhu Wei like that. Deserved it, if you ask me. He was one of the worst sort. No one found who did it, but I think it’s someone from Peng Ho’s gang; there must be some internal power struggle, or he laid his hands on something that did not belong to him."

The young man was quite talkative and explained every detail to Shen Yuan even without properly looking at him, as if he were waiting for someone to gossip with him.

Shen Yuan glanced at Peng Ho, the same young master Peng who had his goons chasing him.

The man was looking around as if he were looking for someone. Even Shi Jin did not have the same sly look on his face; in its place was a cold smile that flickered away soon.

"Let’s go. Contact everyone we know and find out what happened here." Peng Ho said as he walked away. "Find out who he was with last before this happened. No one messes with me and survives."

Everyone heard his words and felt a chill down their spines. It was like he was not ordering his people but warning them.

Shen Yuan had already left at some point before Peng Ho could see him and was making his way towards the forest to complete his daily task.

After chopping down a hundred kilograms of wood, he returned to the servant hall for another mission. This time he did not see Overseer Jiang. In his stead, there was some other middle-aged servant passing tasks to the servants while taking bribes from those who wanted better-paying tasks.

Shen Yuan also chose a better task for himself, cleaning. This time it was not the lavatory he had to clean but... a room.

But how could any task from the demonic cult be as simple as it looked? When he reached the destination of the site, he realized how wrong he had been.

It was not just a simple cleaning of the room he had to do. He had to...
