Chapter 349: Chapter 347: A World Only Doris Doesn’t Know
When "start" was shouted, the opponent’s frontmost player immediately released layers of thick black fog.
Benovia recognized this fog: "Dark Element magic [Bizarre Illusion Barrier], it’s able to reduce mages and magic puppets’ senses and sight. The counter is the corresponding magic [Holy Dispel]."
Dark Element magic opposes Holy Element, but this school of magic isn’t illegal—it’s also recognized by the Mage Guild. Just, few people study it, since Dark Element magic feels uncomfortable and naturally makes people think its user isn’t a good person.
Though the Mage Guild has emphasized more than once that bad people are the problem, not magic itself, and even cited examples of certain High Priests from the Holy Court, people still don’t really like it, making it an extremely niche school.
Other than Benovia, no one recognized this magic.
Luckily, she recognized it and provided the method to counter it.
Phil immediately stepped forward, holy light radiating from her, quickly dispelling the black fog nearby.
Encore’s Water Mist Perception was also cast, probing into the Bizarre Illusion Barrier and contesting its effects for dominance.
A cold flash appeared from the black fog. Doris controlled her magic puppet to meet it head-on, going into a duel with the opponent’s melee player.
She looked seriously at the opponent’s magic puppet, which was covered in silver-white luster. "What magic is this?"
Benovia answered, "[Silver-Gilt], a rare branch derived from Earth Element, Metal Element defense magic, creates metal wrapping similar to mithril around oneself. Defense rivals [Shield of the Earth]. Weakness... Extreme high temperature, maybe."
"Extreme high temperature, huh?"
Doris’s magic puppet began blazing with roaring fire, heading out to engage.
Hilia watched as her teammates began their attacks and defense; she felt the situation through Phil’s [Holy Link] and [Water Mist Perception], raising her magic staff.
A thin cloud appeared 10 meters above the arena, instantly condensing into a rainstorm that showered down onto the field.
A voice came from the opposing side, "Careful, she’s an Ice Mage. The rain might be used to freeze us."
All members of the opponent’s team, including their magic puppets, immediately spent magic power to prevent raindrops from landing on them.
Hilia smiled slightly.
"This casual rain is just to make you react."
The spectacle of everything freezing, she couldn’t do yet. Even if she could, Hilia wouldn’t do so.
Because the audience in the arena had only just recovered from the trauma of being frozen; if Hilia did that, she’d guarantee an audience panic.
So, she made it rain simply to waste the opponent’s magic power.
Of course, if they ignored it...
She’d let them taste the combination of frozen raindrops and an Ice Burst.
The magic puppet was already wielding the sealed Ten Thousand Lights Sword, fighting fiercely with their opponent.
Bam!
Doris clashed head-on with their opponent again, knocked back repeatedly by massive impact. Seeing the opponent’s completely unshaken stance, she took a breath and couldn’t help but say, "They’re really strong individually. Each is Tier Three at the limit, and all of them are rare branches."
Benovia was still observing the opponent. Hearing this, she replied quickly, "Hold out just a little longer, I’m searching for their weaknesses."
Hilia said, "They’re very strong individually, but they haven’t formed an organized system: it’s like five people fighting separately. We can try the Judgment strategy and see their true strength."
Doris raised her longsword. "Sounds good."
Benovia invoked Radiant Moonlight; faint moonlight enveloped the whole battlefield, and together with Encore’s Water Mist Perception, began to erode the Bizarre Illusion Barrier, exposing everyone inside the black fog.
The opponent, seeing this, stopped hiding and simply commanded their magic puppets to charge straight at Hilia and the others.
"They want to bypass the puppet’s battle line and attack us directly."
"Great, let them come!"
Under the glow of Radiant Moonlight, Doris and her puppet’s greatsword erupted with intense flames, holding the front line.
With all the buffs stacking, Doris fought fiercely; she and her magic puppet managed to withstand the assault of two of the opponent’s magic puppets.
Hilia was still watching and hadn’t used her full power.
She spoke softly, "They’re still hiding their true strength. Maybe we can turn their trick against them and just throw them off the stage together."
Through Holy Link, Hilia quickly communicated with the others.
Mage’s Hand locked onto figures in the thick fog, and Encore’s Water Mist Perception transformed into five attack lines, targeting each of them directly.
In the sky above, the rainclouds slowly transformed, rapidly turning into the Ice Rain Skill. Fierce ice rain poured down, splitting into five attack routes and targeting the five mages precisely.
The opponents noticed and immediately activated their defense magic.
Hilia’s lips curled into a smile as she raised her staff.
"Burst."
Ice Burst immediately detonated the ice rain, quickly breaking through their defense magic. Encore’s spell closed in fast on them.
"Not only you have spells that affect others." Encore swung her staff, and the opponent’s magic puppets suddenly moved sluggishly.
Doris seized the opportunity, bypassing the puppets and swiftly closing in on the five mages.
"Inferno, rise!"
Boom!
"Game One: Holy Team One wins. Both teams, please leave the field for a short rest before Round Two."
In the temporary rest area, Doris was still amped up.
She loved the feeling of finishing the match herself.
"We’ve been interrupted by the Sect lately. Stuck in our rooms every day, my bones are rusting. Can’t even go explore a ruin. Now we finally get to fight again."
Phil said, "Doris, loving battle isn’t a good thing. As candidates for the Holy Daughter, we should use Holy Word to win people over, not rely on fighting, okay?"
Doris waved her hand, "If your fist isn’t big enough, no matter how nice you talk, it’s useless. I’ve seriously observed previous Holy Daughters—on the surface they seem gentle, but every single one is a top combatant in the Holy Court. If they get angry, they’d even dare take on the Holy Master!"
Phil replied, "The 24th and 48th Holy Daughters didn’t! They never fought, always persuaded people by reason. They were the most popular and beloved Holy Daughters in the Holy Court."
"Ahem." Hilia interrupted their debate, "Save those arguments for the final election. This isn’t Ista; keep that talk to a minimum."
After a pause, Hilia continued, "Our tactics need adjustment next round. If you sense the opponent’s strength suddenly spike, Phil, you and I will use Purification Skill. Encore, Doris, Benovia, you guys block the front so they can’t stop us from casting Purification Skill."
Doris was briefly stunned. "Purification Skill? Why?"
Hilia answered, "You’ll know soon. It’s inconvenient to explain now. Just think about what Purification Skill does, and... watch out for the magic puppets—don’t let them get destroyed."
Doris half understood, but since Hilia said so, she nodded. "Alright then."
Soon, the second round arrived.
