Chapter 300: Chapter 298: Departure, Destination Northern Alliance
In front of the Directional Teleporter.
The principal was giving a speech, encouraging the contestants.
As a Tier Six Mage, he couldn’t accompany the contestants, and the tutors traveling with them were all Tier Four, with the team leader being a Tier Five professor.
Even for Tier Five, entering another empire required layers of checks—unless you snuck in.
But sneaking in meant you couldn’t lead the team, and you might be disqualified from the tournament by the host nation.
Mr. Blake could also sneak over to watch the matches, but as a strategic-level mage, he had more important work and not that much free time.
Hilia stood among the other Holy Daughter candidates, both excited and nervous about what was coming next.
She thought of a question: "All five Holy Daughter candidates are heading to another country—what if we run into an ambush?"
Rose gave a small laugh and said, "The Holy Court will definitely have people watching over you in secret, but unless you run into a life-threatening danger, your mage protectors won’t intervene. Don’t worry."
Hilia nodded lightly.
The restrictions between nations when it came to high-tier mages were basically just for show. The borders are so vast; who can guarantee no high-tier mage from another empire slips in?
Sending ordinary people to patrol is useless, and relying on Magic Guide Devices to monitor isn’t necessary either. It’s better to just turn a blind eye to high-tier mage crossings; if they report it, great, if not, whatever.
In many areas, the borders are blurry, and there aren’t even walls. After all, walls are basically pointless against mages.
"...That’s all I have to say for now. Wishing all contestants the best of luck—bring home both the championship and the runner-up! Now, let’s set off!"
Clap, clap, clap—!
As Mr. Blake’s speech ended, amid a wave of applause, nearly fifty people entered the Directional Teleporter one after another.
The Tier Five mage leading the group, Professor Nikodemos—a middle-aged mage—addressed everyone: "We’ll first teleport to the nearest city, Northern Border City. Then, we’ll take the Northern Train to the Northern Alliance. Once we reach the first city after crossing the Northern Alliance, we’ll use their Directional Teleporter to travel to the competition city—Kost."
As he explained, he waited for all the tutors in charge to do a headcount. Once he was sure no one was missing, he activated the Directional Teleporter.
The Teleportation Device worked quickly, but the subsequent Northern Train was much slower, especially when leaving the Ista Empire, which involved layers of checks.
It wasn’t until the next day that the group reached a city within the Northern Alliance that had a Directional Teleporter.
Hilia saw the huge pile of gold coins that Professor Nikodemos handed over when entering the Directional Teleporter and couldn’t help but exclaim.
"The school sure is loaded."
Hilia did a quick calculation—just this trip alone cost several hundred gold coins, almost as much as the Mage League’s prize money.
Good thing the Teleportation Device wasn’t charging per person, otherwise with over forty people, the school might not have been able to afford it.
"But this money probably isn’t coming from the school; it’s most likely paid by the Holy Court or the Royal Family, right?"
Hilia thought to herself.
While lining up for the Directional Teleporter, she noticed there were other teams getting ready to teleport as well.
The conversations of the other contestants nearby drifted to Hilia’s ears—
"Isn’t that the Royal Magic Academy’s team?"
"I think so."
"I actually followed their team selection before; I think the champion of their qualifiers is being led by a princess."
"Yeah, her name is Emilia, the seventh princess of the Ista Royal Family. She reached Tier Three a year ago."
"Only Tier Three? She’s a coward, only dares to participate in the team event and not solo."
"..."
With sharp ears, Hilia heard the mocking comment about Emilia and found the voice familiar. Looking over, she noticed someone she recognized in the Divine Magic Academy crowd.
"That’s Pascal Ista, the emperor’s eighth prince." Benovia’s voice came from beside her.
Hilia glanced at Benovia, realization dawning: "So that’s the eighth prince. I’ve never met him."
Benovia smiled faintly: "He’s studying at the Divine Magic Academy, so of course he can’t let people know who he is. It’d only cause trouble."
Hilia nodded and lowered her voice curiously: "Benovia, do you know how many princes there are in total?"
Benovia said, "Nine total. Four princes, five princesses. You probably recognize the first three since they’re more public, but the rest—Pascal is the eighth, Emilia the seventh. If you get to know the others someday, I’ll introduce you."
As she spoke, Benovia paused, then smiled: "If Hilia becomes the Holy Daughter, you’ll probably meet them all. Those not active are still studying at school; their identities aren’t publicized until they graduate."
Hilia nodded. "So that’s how it is."
She was just curious about the number of princes and princesses, mainly wanted to confirm Pascal and Emilia. The rest didn’t interest her much.
Maybe she’d interact with them in the future, but that was for another time.
Hilia looked toward Emilia, who seemed to sense her gaze, looked up and smiled in greeting. Hilia smiled back, then followed her team into the Directional Teleporter.
As they moved forward, she kept noticing someone’s gaze on her. Looking up, she saw Mier, who was tagging along to watch the tournament, and frowned a little.
"Has this guy already sorted that family business out? He actually has time to come and watch."
She didn’t need to guess—Hilia already knew he was probably here just to support her. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
"Whatever, let him be, as long as he doesn’t bother me."
Hilia shook her head and stopped paying attention to him.
Soon after, she followed the group and appeared in the capital of the Northern Alliance, Kost City.
What unfolded before Hilia resembled Huijin City in some ways but was different in others. Most buildings here had spires, unlike Huijin City’s sloped roofs.
One thing Hilia felt most directly: "It’s much cooler here than in Huijin City. Ice Magic should get a boost here."
Just thinking that, Hilia suddenly saw Rose appear, patrolling and admiring the cityscape of Kost.
At this moment, Hilia was sitting with everyone else on a large Magical Train heading slowly toward the hotel.
As for Rose, he was floating outside the window, following alongside the train in a lazy manner and enjoying the scenery.
He nodded, agreeing: "This city’s developed pretty well. Can’t match Huijin City, but for the north, it’s impressive."
Hilia thought of the background story about Kost she’d researched before coming: "The book says this city was one of the few untouched during the Era of Calamity. Back then, many people migrated north, building up this huge city. Ironically, it’s less prosperous now than it was before."
Rose nodded, "I can tell. This city is a bit old."
He then looked toward where the Mage League would be held, gaze deep, "Still, in a few days, this place is going to get very lively."
Hilia’s heart skipped a beat and she asked nervously, "Are the sects planning something again?"
Rose nodded, "Looks that way."
Hilia: "...No way, I just got here."
