Chapter 1102: Chapter 1102: Qiaoqiao’s Dilemma
"Hey? How come you came back so early from your interview this time?"
Seeing Liu Banxia return, Wang Chao asked in surprise.
"I think they realized they couldn’t get any sensational news from me, and I kept complaining, so they let me go back," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"But the questions they asked were really sharp, almost couldn’t hold up. Tomorrow is Qiaoqiao’s due date, so I won’t handle anything tomorrow, just accompany Qiaoqiao."
"It’s set? Is the C-section tomorrow?" Wang Chao asked.
"Tomorrow it is. The baby is full-term," Liu Banxia nodded.
"It’s really quite tough being pregnant. It’s been pretty hard to move around these days. And she still wants to act tough, always feels like she can handle it."
"I don’t dare to advise her either. Let her do whatever she wants. Sooner or later she’s going to endure this, there’s no escaping it. Might as well get it done in one go with this energy."
"I’m really curious, aren’t you curious about the combination?" Wang Chao asked with a smile.
"Of course I’m curious, that’s my baby, how could I not be? But this is up to fate. With such a high probability, it should at least give me a little girl, right?"
"Aren’t you favoring a girl over a boy?" Wang Chao said.
"Think about it, do you communicate more with your mom or your dad?" Liu Banxia retorted.
"I... well... although Old GrandMaster can be quite domineering sometimes, she communicates fairly well. As for my dad, forget it, I don’t even know what to say to him," Wang Chao sighed.
This is the true reflection of every family, but Liu Banxia feels more confident inside, after all, that young guy helped to predict it.
Actually, it’s not so early now, a lot of time wasted on the way back and preparing for the interview, by the time he truly returned, it was almost dinner time.
"Comrade Qiaoqiao, room check, how are you feeling today?" Liu Banxia said earnestly after arriving at Qiaoqiao’s ward.
"Director Liu, today my blood pressure and temperature are normal. Ready for tomorrow’s birth, awaiting instructions," Qiaoqiao responded earnestly.
"Seems like Comrade Qiaoqiao is in good spirits, make sure to rest well today. Let’s decide to sleep by nine o’clock, agreed happily," Liu Banxia said.
"No way, at the earliest would be nine-thirty, I can’t sleep by nine," Qiaoqiao said anxiously.
"Alright, nine-thirty it is then. Tomorrow, you’ll unload, and you can truly relax," Liu Banxia sat next to the bed.
"Can we wait until my tummy starts hurting before the C-section tomorrow?" Qiaoqiao asked pitifully.
"Very likely there won’t be any movement tomorrow, it’s just the due date," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"Actually, being a day or two off doesn’t really matter, no impact on the baby’s health. It’ll be perfectly fine, the baby is already full-term."
"I’m still a bit scared," Qiaoqiao said.
"Don’t worry, I’ll be waiting right outside the operating room. Told them no matter what happens tomorrow, even if the sky falls, let Shi Lei handle it," Liu Banxia said.
"Oh, don’t always bully Shi Lei," Qiaoqiao lightly patted him.
"Alright, just rest peacefully. I’ll do another round downstairs, staying here tonight," Liu Banxia said.
Qiaoqiao nodded with satisfaction, "That’s more like it."
It counts as completing a special room check, actually, Liu Banxia is feeling somewhat troubled.
He is the father, how could he not be concerned? If he didn’t worry at all, he would truly be heartless.
After another round in the ward, he also needed to check on some of his post-surgery patients, in a few days some will be discharged again.
Cannot say these patients have no issues post-surgery, but it’s all routine, no occurrences of post-op high fever or anastomotic leaks.
Just as he walked out of the ward, his phone rang.
"Sister Huang, I’m back at the hospital," Liu Banxia said after answering.
"Are you busy? If you’re not, come to my office," Huang Ying said.
"Sure, I’ll head over now," Liu Banxia replied and hung up.
This should be about discussing tomorrow’s surgery, officially a family meeting.
Arriving at Huang Ying’s office, it was relatively quiet on the obstetrics side.
"Can I ask you something? Have you talked to Qiaoqiao in detail about natural birth and caesarean?" Huang Ying asked.
"Uh..., we’ve talked about it. When we thought about having two kids, caesarean seemed safer, so we decided on that. Is there something special going on?" Liu Banxia said.
"Don’t worry too much, Qiaoqiao’s check-ups are all normal." Huang Ying said.
"But this afternoon, Qiaoqiao asked me in detail about the differences between caesarean and natural birth. I get the feeling she wants a natural birth. Even if it means suffering herself, she doesn’t want the kids to endure any discomfort."
"I thought about it then and figured I’d mention it to you, see how we can arrange it tomorrow because we should respect Qiaoqiao’s decision."
Liu Banxia frowned and sat to the side, "She’s never mentioned it to me, and I’ve been careless, never asked her about it thoroughly."
"Sister Huang, if Qiaoqiao goes for a natural birth, is there a high chance of complications? Will it be tough? With two kids, I worry she might not have the strength."
Now he knew why Qiaoqiao asked in the ward if they could wait for contractions before proceeding with surgery. She had been thinking about natural birth all along.
This is new; perhaps Qiaoqiao was considerate of him and never stated her preference clearly.
"Well, I’ve talked with Qiaoqiao too. She’s very sporty usually, so she’s in good health." Huang Ying said.
"But things can happen during actual delivery. You are a doctor; I won’t say more. It’s up to you two to decide."
"Childbirth is a big deal in life. Unless you plan to have more kids, you’ll only go through this once. I think you should communicate well to avoid any regrets."
"Thanks, Sister Huang. I will definitely have a serious discussion with Qiaoqiao on this. She’s the mother; the decision is hers." Liu Banxia nodded sincerely.
"If you decide on natural birth, leave a surgery room ready for tomorrow. If it doesn’t work, we can still opt for caesarean. Don’t worry about my side; I’ve got plenty of time." Huang Ying said.
"Thank you, Sister Huang. I’ll go discuss it with Qiaoqiao right away." Liu Banxia hurriedly said.
Under normal circumstances, Huang Ying wouldn’t manage so many things, but since they are real family, there’s this special consideration.
How could she have plenty of time, especially as a leading obstetrician surgeon? Nowadays, many people prefer caesarean, and those insisting on natural birth are fewer.
This is a new situation for Qiaoqiao, and it made Liu Banxia anxious, immediately returning to Qiaoqiao’s ward.
"Why are you back again?" Qiaoqiao asked curiously.
"You’re being a little playful. Sister Huang talked to me for a while; you need to come clean with me." Liu Banxia sat by the bed.
"Oh dear, I haven’t even made up my mind yet." Qiaoqiao pouted, with a hint of dodging in her eyes, looking guilty.
"After careful consideration, I’ve decided..." Liu Banxia stopped midway and looked at Qiaoqiao.
Qiaoqiao suddenly became tense, revealing her shiny white teeth.
"I need to respect your decision. If you want a natural birth, we’ll go for it. If you want a caesarean, we’ll do that." Liu Banxia continued.
"You’re annoying, scared me to death." Qiaoqiao punched him, feeling unsatisfied, and then bit his arm lightly.
"You need to tell me your thoughts; otherwise, I won’t know what you’re thinking." Liu Banxia tapped her nose.
"I’ve learned from Sister Huang that your physical indicators are good. Plus, both babies are behaving well in your belly, and you exercise regularly, so there’s a high chance of success with natural birth."
"However, circumstances at the time will need Sister Huang’s judgment. If Sister Huang thinks natural birth isn’t feasible, you’ll need to switch to caesarean."
"I’m just worried it’ll be painful; childbirth is truly excruciating. We have two babies, and you’ll be in great pain this time. Be honest with me, did you decide long ago on seeking natural birth?"
Qiaoqiao scrunched her nose and nodded, "I heard before that it’s part of being a mom, and that babies born naturally are healthier."
"I’ve chatted with Sister Huang, who says babies born naturally have better brain and heart functions after being compressed during labor. Natural birth just inherently has its merits; I didn’t remember much else."
"If I had only one baby, I’d decisively go for natural birth. But I have twins, and I’m worried I can’t manage. So when you mentioned caesarean, I didn’t object."
"But after staying here for two days, I feel quite capable. Why shouldn’t I try? If I can smoothly deliver them, then we’ll clearly know who’s older and who’s younger."
"But will this be troublesome? You often have emergency surgeries, will it make the operating room tense?"
"And we’ve informed so many people, everyone knows I’m giving birth tomorrow. What if it doesn’t happen tomorrow?"
Liu Banxia laughed, "Well, it’s our own baby; we’ll decide ourselves. Let others talk. Don’t worry about the operating room; after all, I’m deputy director, the Emergency Center is accommodating."
His rogue way of speaking made Qiaoqiao give him a playful slap.
But the smile on her face spread wide, and she felt genuinely happy inside. This was an issue she’d been fretting over yet didn’t dare to share with Liu Banxia.
