Chapter 1100: Chapter 1100: Sui Wenjing’s Surprise Counterattack
(I would like to thank "My Life, My Joy" for their encouragement and support.)
Having a child is a big deal, and with the baby about to be born, Liu Banxia reminded himself to remember this important event. His wife was still in the hospital, so he had to check in morning, noon, and night.
Worrying is one thing, but the tasks at hand also have to be attended to.
This afternoon, he dressed neatly and drove to the city station. An interview had to be done, as it was now the political task of the emergency center.
It’s not like he could just skip it. Zhou Shuwen directly notified him without any negotiation.
That’s why it’s called a political task. There have been a lot of reports about the Second Hospital recently, and more or less, they all have some connection to him. So having him do an interview was most fitting.
"Can you not make today’s questions too sharp? Last time I participated in a program here, it left me with psychological bruises." Liu Banxia said while preparing for filming.
"Didn’t the last program turn out really well?" Sui Wenjing retorted.
"Hey... Your program turned out well, but for me, it came with a hefty burden." Liu Banxia sighed.
"This is like my second time in the palace, so please take it easy on me and don’t ask too many sharp questions. I can’t help but talk, and before I know it, I’ve said too much."
"And aren’t we recording? You can edit out anything overboard afterwards. You can’t just throw me into the firepit for the sake of your program’s effect; it’s quite the headache."
Sui Wenjing nodded with a smile, but Liu Banxia was not feeling relaxed at all.
Last time she also said she wouldn’t ask sharp questions, but still asked whatever she wanted. Trusting her? That’d be like helping her count the money while being sold off.
"Hello, viewers. Today we welcome back an old friend, the first guest to be invited twice to our program since its inception. Welcome, Liu Banxia from the Second Hospital’s Emergency Center, Director Liu."
Sui Wenjing introduced him with much enthusiasm at the start of the program.
Liu Banxia waved as he walked up to the stage, took a seat, and became more alert internally.
The more enthusiastic the welcome, the tougher the day ahead.
"Since our program first aired, you really are the only guest we’ve invited twice, showing our great interest in the medical industry," Sui Wenjing said with a smile.
"So I guess I should be happy about that," Liu Banxia replied.
"Director Liu, I recall that during our last interview, you were still a chief resident. What did you rely on to successfully earn the position of associate director?" Sui Wenjing threw a little dagger.
"This question is somewhat complex to answer. It’s not really appropriate to boast about my fast progress. Mainly, it’s the leadership’s acknowledgment of my work abilities," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"In fact, there are many suitable candidates for this position in our emergency center. It’s not that those not selected aren’t up to standard. It’s just that there are too many choices, which gives the leadership a headache."
"My role as deputy director is primarily to ensure supporting services go smoothly because hospital life is hectic. Providing solid logistical support helps us in tough battles."
"With your fast-growing surgical skills, do you have any insights to share with young doctors who are about to step onto the frontlines?" Sui Wenjing continued.
"I understand you are the project leader for the promotion of NOSES surgery at your hospital. I’ve heard this surgery technique is better than conventional surgery?"
"First, let me correct that; I am currently also learning the techniques of this surgery," replied Liu Banxia.
"If I explain it too intricately, some might not understand. The advantage of this surgery is it allows operations within the cavity without needing to make incisions on the abdominal wall due to large specimen sizes."
"Currently, many hospitals across the country are promoting this surgical method. We started very late, so we’re still exploring."
"And your medical skills? From the information I’ve gathered and from understanding various opinions, this surgical method is very difficult. However, you’ve had considerable success both in small incision appendectomies and promoting this surgery," Sui Wenjing wouldn’t let the question go.
Liu Banxia felt a bit helpless; he really didn’t want to talk about quickly improving medical skills. But he still nodded without changing his expression:
"This needs perspective. Whether small incision appendectomies or promoting NOSES surgery, I’m navigating based on matured experiences."
"It’s just that such practices are seldom performed in Binhai City, so it seems like I excel after I’ve completed them. In reality, within the whole medical system hierarchy, I’ve just entered the fray."
"Sharing what? It’s a tired old mantra. For us who earn a living from craftsmanship, diligent learning and hard work are the only paths toward achievement."
"Because we might encounter many unforeseen situations during surgeries, let me share a recent example. A patient had a Meckel’s diverticulum; our admitting doctor initially diagnosed it as appendicitis."
"To clarify, Meckel’s diverticulum is a congenital disease, very elusive, often only discovered during surgery."
"The patient was very young, which warranted changing the surgical plan. Due to this, there was some misunderstanding from the patient’s family initially, leading to conflicts."
"I’m sharing this example because the primary surgeon was one of our resident doctors. After discovering this situation, she wasn’t flustered. Even though the patient’s family was agitated, she firmly completed the surgery and did a great job."
"Post-surgery, after understanding what Meckel’s diverticulum was, the family apologized. From the perspective of doctor-patient relationships, this is a textbook case."
"Absent rigorous routine efforts, how would you feel if you went in for the appendix and fished out something entirely different?"
"If you panic at that moment, you can’t make the best judgment for the patient. What technique to employ, how to help the patient relieve the ailment, all these decisions are impacted."
"To truly progress, diligence and rigorous practice is the way. Treasure every surgical opportunity. Over time, experiences accumulate this way."
Sui Wenjing nodded, "Through recent news, we have grasped some situations. There were even some comments about you online, leading to you defending your rights. There’s also your ’Emergency Knowledge Into Campus’ initiative. How do you view these matters?"
Liu Banxia laughed, "Two big issues here. Regarding the gossip online, honestly, I didn’t mind it much at first; enjoyed it somewhat. After all, only those at a certain social level can spread rumors, right?"
"But as for my colleagues, they didn’t care at all. My hard-earned rumor wasn’t taken seriously by anyone."
"However, my reason for defending my rights wasn’t the rumor itself but the irresponsible remarks online. To be precise, it bordered on cyberbullying."
"And the truth was revealed quickly. Yet for them, it seemed they didn’t feel they should have any specific attitude toward me or others they maliciously harmed."
"I think they never truly took it seriously. For them, it’s merely a trivial online issue. However, for many, it inflicts irreparable harm."
"Here, I want to elaborate a bit. Public opinion wields significant power. Some issues aren’t that easily resolved, yet exposure online propels relevant departments to respond."
"That’s the beneficial side, falling under social supervision. But when individuals broadcast uninformed views or even malicious insults without understanding the facts, more attention should be paid to these behaviors in the future."
"Everyone should be accountable for their words and deeds. Just because it functions online doesn’t allow for wanton disregard."
"Regarding our small activities, I don’t have much to say. Stemming from a case we handled in the ER, we realized the lack of emergency knowledge in society was starkly noticeable."
"We can’t urgently advertise or spread awareness in other areas, so we chose to focus on college communities. The learning and life pressures are high today, and the sudden death rate is significant too."
"Subsequently, another similar case helped propel the initiative greatly. So I’m genuinely pleased."
"These emergency skills aren’t overly complex, but at crucial moments, they truly can be lifesaving. In rescue operations, time is of the essence. The sooner aid is rendered, the better the prognosis."
"Will you continue with it?" Sui Wenjing asked further.
Liu Banxia nodded seriously, "We will persist, but the frequency will be spaced out more, primarily to check and address gaps. Each session requires deploying many medical staff, putting immense pressure on our admissions procedures."
"We must ensure this doesn’t disrupt admissions, which would be irresponsible to patients. Most patients arriving at our emergency center require urgent care, so delays are unacceptable."
"Director Liu, I noticed a small situation earlier," Sui Wenjing said with a smile.
"Revisiting the earlier question, the reason perhaps social discourse buzzed about your rumored affair with students might be due to the higher likelihood of such special relationships within the medical system?"
Liu Banxia glanced at her in resignation, thinking it had passed, only to be hit with a surprise question. This question posed not easy to answer.
