Chapter 1075: Chapter 1075: A Disappointing "Mastermind
The next morning, Liu Banxia came to work looking full of energy.
What happened yesterday could stay in yesterday; today was a brand-new day.
On a normal day, Liu Banxia basically didn’t do ward rounds. Even for yesterday’s Meckel’s diverticulum resection that he’d participated in, he usually just left the follow-up to the resident in charge of the bed.
This was one of the perks that came with being a leader. For those big ward rounds, naturally Shi Lei and Wei Yuan took over. When Zhou Shuwen wasn’t busy, he would also bring everyone around once.
If everyone was busy? Then it became Chen Xuehai’s job.
Only when literally everyone couldn’t get away would Liu Banxia personally lead a round.
Ward rounds were actually also a teaching process, with corresponding questions so everyone would have a deeper impression of related cases.
But in Liu Banxia’s view, if the patients managed by the "six little ones" couldn’t be fully grasped by them, they wouldn’t be called the legendary Six Little Ones of the Emergency Center.
It was just mainly about issues to watch out for in prognosis—whether the symptoms the patients showed were complications or normal reactions, adjusting medication, and so on.
Although he didn’t bring a group for a big round this morning, he still went into that female patient’s ward.
The female patient looked much more energetic than yesterday, and when her husband saw Liu Banxia, he didn’t seem emotional anymore.
"You’ve gotten the full picture now, right? These congenital conditions are impossible to guard against," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"I’m not trying to make excuses for our doctors; let’s just talk about the facts. Don’t worry about the incision on your abdomen. Dr. Liu’s suturing technique is very good."
"Doctor, we also have physical exams at work. Why didn’t they find this during the checkups?" the patient asked.
"Physical exams, huh? Even with a CT, it’s hard to spot. You need to have a suspicion first, then do targeted tests to see it," Liu Banxia said.
"Think about it: instrument tests are very precise, but not absolutely precise. There are so many organs crammed together in the abdominal cavity, such a tiny diverticulum is very hard to find."
"A lot of people live their whole lives with a diverticulum and never find out, but once it acts up, it really torments you. It hurt a lot yesterday, right? There was diverticulitis pain and also pain from bowel torsion."
"But it’s all fine now. The diverticulum is dealt with, the appendix is dealt with. You suffered once and got two problems solved. I’ve also submitted an application about the costs; there will definitely be some reduction, but the exact amount has to wait for the leaders’ approval."
"Doctor, I was just too anxious yesterday," the patient’s husband said, embarrassed.
"That’s normal. If you understood everything, what would you need us doctors for?" Liu Banxia said with a smile.
Just then, Liu Banxia’s phone rang. He saw it was Lawyer Gao calling and hurriedly picked up. "Lawyer Gao, this is Liu Banxia."
"Director Liu, I didn’t expect it to go so smoothly. We’ve already found the first person who posted. I just got out of the car and I’m heading to your hospital now," Lawyer Gao’s voice came through.
"Nice, that was fast. I have to see who this mastermind actually is," Liu Banxia said happily.
"Take good care of your health. I have to go handle this. Someone tried to screw me over online, and now that we’ve dragged them out, I absolutely have to fight this out properly."
After he finished speaking, Liu Banxia took Liu Yiqing and headed straight for the lobby.
This left the people in the ward feeling a bit helpless. Was he really leaving like this?
The patient’s husband had actually wanted to fight it out yesterday too—after all, it was a misdiagnosis. But after gathering information, he realized this misdiagnosis wasn’t the same as other misdiagnoses.
And if the hospital took a firm stand, who knew how long it would drag on, or how much compensation they could actually get? It might very well not be worth the trouble.
So he gave up. What Liu Banxia had just said about granting a certain reduction in costs also made him very happy. Now he felt that Liu Banxia was actually a pretty decent person, not as much of an asshole as he’d seemed yesterday.
To be fair, when he first got the news yesterday, his first thought really had been to see how much money he could get out of this.
On Liu Banxia’s side, as soon as he ran to the lobby, Lawyer Gao walked in through the door.
"Xu Yino, come over here. We’ve found the person who set us up," Liu Banxia shouted.
"Unfortunately, our scandal didn’t circulate long enough. Before we could enjoy the treatment of top-tier celebrities, it collapsed already."
"Director Liu, with something this great, shouldn’t we add a few extra dishes at lunch?" Zhou Qian asked with a smile.
"Add them, definitely. Lawyer Gao is amazing. Don’t leave at noon—have lunch at our hospital cafeteria," Liu Banxia said.
"Can’t do. I just came over to update you; I still have to keep working on this," Lawyer Gao said with a smile.
"Look, this is the guy. He’s a worker on that project you went to. He happened to see you two and then kept taking photos."
"Huh? He does look a bit familiar. But I still can’t remember where I’ve seen him. He’s definitely not my patient. One of yours?" Liu Banxia frowned after looking and asked.
Xu Yino and Liu Yiqing also took a careful look, but didn’t have much of an impression. They just felt he looked a bit familiar, but couldn’t remember where they’d seen him.
"You really don’t remember?" Lawyer Gao asked with a smile.
Liu Banxia nodded. "I feel like my memory is actually pretty good, there shouldn’t be some fish slipping through the net like this. But I’m sure he’s not my patient; otherwise there’s no way I wouldn’t remember."
"His ex-girlfriend was your patient. Seemed she was beaten up very badly by him, and in the end they settled," Lawyer Gao said.
Liu Yiqing slapped her forehead. "I remember now, aortic dissection. At first she wanted to sue, then later they settled. Right?"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Liu Banxia also nodded vigorously.
"I was just saying why this guy looked kind of familiar. I never saw him in person, only in photos. So it was him. Isn’t he just asking for trouble now that his belly’s full?"
He was really a bit disappointed. He’d originally thought this was going to be some extraordinary mission, he’d even gotten himself ready for battle. And now what? It turns out to be this guy—how’s he supposed to fight like that?
"The platform side was very cooperative and directly pulled up his registration information," Lawyer Gao said.
"We found him in an internet café last night. When we found him, he was still posting comments and replies online. You could say we caught him in the act. After he was taken away, he confessed to everything."
"In his words, he just wanted to ’punish’ you a bit. He said a perfectly good family was torn apart by you, and he didn’t even think what he was doing was illegal."
"When he heard that if the circumstances of fabrication or defamation are serious he could face up to three years in prison, he completely freaked out. He repented on the spot and even said he wanted to apologize to you."
"Teacher Liu, you can’t go easy on someone like that," Xu Yino said.
Next to her, Liu Yiqing was also nodding hard. "Even though from the way Lawyer Gao describes him, he sounds a bit pitiful, we still can’t soften up."
Lawyer Gao gave the two of them a surprised look. He’d thought the two girls would go soft—Liu Banxia was the one who came to fight.
"You don’t know what it was like at the time. That female patient was beaten way too badly," Liu Banxia said.
"He beat her so badly she ended up with an aortic dissection and almost lost her life. Even though she had surgery, it’s definitely going to affect her life in the future."
"After paying for medical expenses and rehabilitation out of the settlement money, there really wasn’t much left. She was such a nice girl, and her whole life’s happiness might have been ruined by him."
"Lawyer Gao, my opinion is we stick strictly to business. Just count him unlucky for provoking me. Does the platform have any stance on this? We can’t just muddle through and leave it at that, right?"
Lawyer Gao glanced at her. "This is also the second thing I wanted to come tell you in person. The platform has been very cooperative in attitude and said they can put out an apology statement."
Liu Banxia frowned. "And that’s it?"
Lawyer Gao nodded. "That’s it. And that’s only because you’re now a relatively well-known doctor with a certain social influence. Otherwise, I’m afraid there wouldn’t even be an apology letter."
"Besides, they really did cooperate with the work. They’ve already blocked some of the negative comments involving you on their platform. You could just say they have some issues with supervision."
"They have a lot of active users. Even if you keep hounding them, there might not be much to show for it. Personally, I think you should just settle with them, and there’s no need for any apology statement."
"The upside is you can maintain a good relationship with this platform going forward. Mm... things come up here pretty often. If you need anything, they’ll be willing to cooperate."
Listening to Lawyer Gao, Xu Yino and Liu Yiqing really wanted to laugh, but had to hold it in.
Looks like Lawyer Gao also knows what Teacher Liu is like—high combat value, and sometimes pretty mischievous.
"If you want to laugh, just laugh. No need to hold it in till you crack," Liu Banxia swept a look over them.
"It never hurts to take advice. I’d originally wanted to fight to the bitter end, but the opponent’s too weak. Lawyer Gao, we’ll go with your suggestion, and forget the apology letter. It wouldn’t be a sincere letter anyway."
"But for those who reposted and went wild in the comments, you can screen some of them. We can’t just let them get away with it in a daze. They may look innocent, but who knows how many people have been screwed over under their ’innocence.’"
"Okay, that’s no problem," Lawyer Gao nodded.
"There are indeed a few who seemed to be making a lot of noise. After the posts on this platform were controlled, they went over to other platforms to post instead."
"This time we’ve also done a thorough investigation. There are many aspects involved. Leave the rest to me; I’ll definitely give you a result you’re satisfied with."
"I still have to keep working on this case, and there are other cases I need to follow up on. I have a court session this afternoon, so let’s leave it here. Just wait for my good news."
"When you’re not so busy someday, we’ll sit down for a proper meal," Liu Banxia said.
Even though the opponent disappointed her, that doesn’t erase Lawyer Gao’s contribution.
Handling it this fast and this effectively was something she hadn’t expected.
